“But you’re mine.”
I press my lips together as I nod. “And you’re mine.”
He holds me closer, as if he wants to meld our bodies together. “So, you’ll marry me?”
I swallow, hesitating just to keep him on the edge where I like him. “I would have said yes back when we were younger. But now…” I breathe out, and his eyes narrow a bit. “I’ll scream it.” I do just that. “Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you!”
He laughs in relief before he lifts me up into his arms, holding me close as our lips meet in a heated embrace. I hold on to him, pouring love into our kiss as we cling to each other. I’m sure there are cheers, clapping, and the Belles are probably crying, but all I feel and see is Jett Thomas Cook.
I may have lost the boy, but the man found me, and I don’t think I could ever love him enough for it.
EPILOGUE
The Belles
When it comes to the timeline of Jett and Fable’s romance, all the Belles were wrong.
They shacked up pretty quickly, but everything else happened within six months.
Kitty’s birthday celebration was Friday, and now she sits in a chair in the backyard of Jett and Fable’s home only two days later as they exchange vows. The only decorations are the field of wildflowers and the pinks and oranges of the sky above the mountains. They said they didn’t need anything but each other, and by the way they’re staring at each other, no one could disagree.
Fable’s hair is down, except for a little twist that pins her hair behind her ear, and it’s held by a daisy from the front flower bed that Jett tucked into it. She is wearing a beautiful white silk gown that shows off all her curves, much to Jett’s liking. He stands tall in a tailored black suit with his beard freshly trimmed and his eyes on his bride.
They are the most beautiful couple, in the opinion of the four women who love them.
Kitty’s hand is in Bea’s, while she holds Maggie’s, and Maggie holds Hazel’s.
It’s just them—and Michaels from the Penalty Box Prophets, who is marrying the bride and groom.
Even if Bea had already tried to trip him, Michaels didn’t let it get him down. He wears a broad smile on his face as he goes through a speech on the importance of marriage. Kitty fights back the tears as she admires her sweet granddaughter, wishing like hell that Phillip were here. Kitty’s eyes move over Fable, worried she’d miss her parents being there, but her gaze, her heart, and her body are all Jett’s. Kitty remembers how it felt to be under a man’s gaze like that, and her heart soars knowing Fable gets to experience it.
The girl deserves the world, and Jett will give it to her.
“Fable? Your vows.”
Bea squeezes Kitty’s hand, and her breath hitches at the emotion in Fable’s voice. “Jett, my pretty boy,” she starts, their gazes locked just as Jett’s lips turn up. “Sometimes it feels like I’m drowning and I can’t catch my breath, but all I need is for you to look at me, and it’s like a life vest that only you carry is there to save me. I am grounded to this earth by your love and support. I can’t promise that it’ll be easy to love me or that I won’t drive you absolutely insane, but I can promise I’ll love you more each day. I’ll cherish you and sing all your praises. I’ll be at every game wearing your number on my back, with a good-luck kiss that is only yours. I never thought my life would have meaning, but you not only bring meaning, but peace. I love you, Jett Thomas Cook, and you own my heart and soul.”
Her tears fall down her gorgeous face, and when Kitty glances at Jett, his are falling just as freely as he gazes down at her. “Princess,” he says on a sigh. “You asked me once if I was lonely in the Ice Thistle’s apartment. I told you no, but then you made me a liar. I never thought of myself as lonely until you jogged back into my life with a spine of steel and demands that drove me crazy. Now, when you’re away from me, I feel the word at every turn.” He moves in closer, cupping her cheeks as more tears roll down his striking face. The way the sun is setting has his eyes glowing light brown and leaving everyone breathless.
“You bring such color to my life, with your chaotic brain and your need to drive me up the damn wall. I love how you never stop talking, how you make up names for raccoons, and, more than anything, I love how you are you.” Fable reaches up, catching his tears. Jett flashes her a small smile as he inhales, letting the breath out in a heartfelt sigh. “I never understood how Phillip was so obsessed with Kitty, with his letters and his requests from the grave, but after just one day of loving you, I get it. I’m obsessed with everything you are.” Fable hiccups a sob, and he brushes her lips with his thumb. “There is nothing in this world I wouldn’t do for you. We will make this house a home, we will make the Ice Thistle the best venue in all winter sports, and we will love each other more than all of it, because you and I, we’re the best kind of partnership, and nothing can take that bond from us. I will love you forever and then from the grave.”
