Canadian operative Ben Parker met the woman of his dreams while working undercover in Australia. That operation, to take down Emmanuel Huisman, was the singular focus of his life until he met Maggie. Now the hunt for his former childhood friend turned international terrorist often feels like what he does in between chasing the magenta-haired American spy he can’t stop thinking about. She’s the woman of his dreams, when she isn’t being the stuff of his nightmares. Sometimes she is sweet and deliciously responsive to him, and other times she pushes him out of a plane without a parachute.

Kenzie Taggart knew Ben Parker was the one for her the minute she saw him. Unfortunately, he didn’t meet her first. He met her twin sister, Kala, and they had to keep the secret. No one outside of their team knows they’re twins. Everyone believes the operative known as Miss Magenta is one person. Kenzie can’t tell the man she’s falling in love with who she really is, but she also can’t afford to lose him.

When faced with certain death on a joint operation in Nepal, Kenzie reveals the truth about “Maggie” and they spend their last minutes alive in each other’s arms. It was perfect, and then a miraculous rescue leaves them in a difficult situation. Kenzie couldn’t be happier that Ben knows the truth, but so does Huisman. He’s determined to burn down the world, but not before he ruins his old friend and his newfound beloved. As Ben and Kenzie cross the globe in their quest to stop the madman, they might have to choose between saving the world and saving each other

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Ben Parker felt the cold press of stone against his face and his gut churned as he forced himself to sit up.

Why was it so dark? Where the hell was he?

Something dripped down his face, and he reached up. Blood. His eyes were starting to adjust to the low light of the…? Cage? Was he in a cage?

His heart raced. His gut knotted. He was better than this. He had to calm the fuck down. He was a damn spy, and he knew panic was the real enemy.

Well, panic and Manny. Fuck. What had happened? Manny had done something. He’d been with… He couldn’t think about her now. He couldn’t think about the look on her face. He’d tried to save them all but the cost…the cost had been more than he could imagine.

Lou. She’d been the cost. He had to think about Lou. Was she here? He had to find a way to get Lou out because he knew exactly how badly things could go for her.

He moved along the floor until he managed to find a corner, his gut wrenching, likely because some asshole used experimental drugs on him. Or it could be plain sedatives, but he doubted it since Manny liked to play. He wouldn’t put anything past him. After all, he’d nearly killed Kenzie’s twin twice. Ben had carried her out one time himself. He’d held her thinking she was Kenzie, held her close and gave her to her family and walked away.

Kenzie.

Kenzie was never going to forgive him. Never. Not if Lou was hurt or if she…

“Benjamin, you don’t seem to be taking to my new drugs,” a silky voice said. It floated through the air, coming at him from seemingly all angles. Like the voice of a cruel god. “Such a shame. It did work, though. How were your dreams? It does contain a bit of a psychotropic. The other patients have described the effects as nightmarish.”

The dreams. They welled inside him, shadows he didn’t want to catch, but they still came. They flooded back, each devastating image.

His head ached at the thought of the shadow world he’d been in.

In his dreams he was in the car again. He was in the accident that took his fiancée when they were in college. It had been the day he’d discovered her affair with the man who was supposed to be his best friend. Ben had been in that car, and he realized the brakes were gone and he was hydroplaning, the rain and thunder forming a soundtrack to what was almost certainly the last moments of his life.

Except this time it wasn’t Deanna in the seat beside him.

This time it was Kenzie Taggart. The love of his freaking life. The woman he’d chased across five continents and given himself to wholly. The one he was planning to marry and have a real life with.

He wished he’d told her.

It was Kenzie’s body that was thrown from the car, that he’d dragged himself through the mud to get to, that he found face down in shallow water, her face ruined by glass and branches and stone. Her beautiful face a mottled mess, but he’d tried. Even as his own body was failing he tried to bring her back.

In the never-ending nightmare of the last few hours, it had been Kenzie who coughed and came back and cursed him. Who told him she hated him and would always hate him.

It was Kenzie who died on the operating table, and her family who wouldn’t even let him see her, wouldn’t let him hold her.

He’d been devastated by Deanna’s death, but it was nothing compared to knowing Kenzie wasn’t in the world. He’d been hollowed out and ready to do whatever it took to find her again.

It had been so real.

“Did you dream about her?” Manny sounded curious, a hint of sympathy in his voice.

Manny was a sociopath. Any sympathy was performative. He was excellent at hiding the fact that he was a monster who wanted to eat the world.

Starting with Ben Parker.

“Where is Lou?” It was the only thing that mattered. Finding Lou. Getting Lou back, because if he didn’t Kenzie would never forgive him. Never.

What had he done?

“Rest assured, Louisa Ward is in good health. For now,” Manny replied. “We’ll see how intransigent she can be before deciding how much influence she’ll require to do the job. Don’t worry. I already have plans in place.”

The bombs. He’d used a couple in the last few months, destroying lives for fun and profit, building his new world order by decimating the current one.

He wanted Lou to build more. He needed her brilliance, and Ben had been the one to give it to him.

He lost Lou. It was his fault, and the family he’d been hoping to be a part of would never have him now.
The Bodyguard…

Nate Carter left Australia’s elite SASR unit after a tragic accident. Shattered by the experience, he thought taking a job in the States might be a good way to start over. His father’s former employer, McKay-Taggart, has a position for him in the bodyguard unit. He never imagined himself risking his life for celebrities and the wealthy, but it will do for now. It will also give him a chance to reconnect with old friends, including the girl who’d been like a little sis to him ten years before.
These days, however, his feelings for Daisy O’Donnell are anything but brotherly.

The Bombshell

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Australia

Nate Carter stood on the big lawn of the house he’d spent his teenaged years in and wondered why it no longer felt like home. It wasn’t like he didn’t love the big ranch house, didn’t have fond memories of riding horses across the rambling station with his sister, Elodie, or spending evenings with his parents watching movies.

His parents weren’t the problem. His sister was still the same obnoxious, loving woman she’d always been.

He was the problem.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” a deep voice asked.

He turned and saw his father standing on the big wraparound porch where he would sit with his sister, swinging and talking about what was going on in their lives.

He’d been home for six months and he made excuse after excuse why he wouldn’t sit there with Elodie. He was busy. There was work to be done.

He never once told her the real reason. He was scared he would sit there and have absolutely nothing to say.

Elodie had known what she wanted to do with her life since she was five years old. He was twenty-six and had no idea where his place was in the world.

Which was why he was changing things up. “Moving to the States or working for Big Tag?”

His father wore his normal uniform of jeans and a T-shirt and looked more like a cowboy than the soldier he’d been in his younger years. Brody Carter was a legend in the security business. He’d gone from Aussie Special Forces to working for an international security company. He’d married a woman he’d met on what he would call an “op” but what Nate kind of thought was really fate. All of his life he’d looked up to this man, and Nate was so worried he was letting him down. “Both, I suppose. You know Damon would love to have you.”

Before they’d moved back to Australia, his family had been based in London. Elodie barely remembered living in the place called The Garden, but Nate did. Nate remembered growing up with Damon Knight’s kids and all the others.

“I need something new.” It was nothing less than the truth. Since he’d left the military, he’d been drifting. Nothing had been able to shake this sense of… He hesitated to use the word ennui. Ennui sounded like something that happened to way smarter people than him.

“Are you sure you’re not following one of the Taggart girls?” His father’s brows had risen. “Because I worry you would be making a mistake, son. Tasha’s getting married and the twins… Well, I don’t know how any man handles those twins of Tag’s.”

Nate laughed. It felt good to laugh. He’d been kind of numb for the last couple of months. “Absolutely not. And I’m not trailing after Lou, either. There is no woman involved in this decision of mine. I’m doing this for me.”

He wasn’t going to mention he’d been thinking a lot about Daisy O’Donnell lately. He wouldn’t pursue her or anything. When they’d been kids, she’d followed him around and he’d known about her crush. He hadn’t minded, though he also hadn’t touched her. It made him wonder what she was up to these days.

His father nodded and stepped down, joining him on the lawn. “I suppose my question is what you’re going to get out of the experience. You told me you didn’t think you wanted to work security.”

“It seems to be the only thing I’m halfway good at.” Which was precisely the problem.

“Ah, so you’re feeling the pressure, are you?” his father asked.

“Pressure? No one puts pressure on me. I come home and tell you I’ve left SASR and Mum simply gets my old room ready and you put me on the schedule. I thought the military was going to be my career.”

His father shrugged. “There’s no pressure from me or your mum. You want to help me around the station, I’m happy to have you. You want to go work at Mum’s clinic, she would love it. Your uncle’s business is the only one I’m going to ask you to stay out of, and you know damn well why.”

Because Uncle Alfi worked on the outer edges of morality. He’d been a fun guy to have around, but he could get into the wildest scrapes. “I don’t think he’s looking for a partner.”

His father snorted. “He’s always looking for a partner. I suppose I’m just wishing you didn’t have to go so far away to find yourself. This is the pressure I’m talking about.”

“I don’t understand.”

“Ah, but I do understand you,” his father said with a sigh. “I was you, son. I was the rather normal man madly in love with a brilliant woman who I couldn’t believe I deserved.”

His parents were some of the most solid people he’d ever known. While his friends’ folks were splitting up or taking breaks, his parents were obnoxiously in love.
Brooke Harper thought she would make it big in New York City, but she knew her heart would always be back in her hometown of Bliss, Colorado. She’d intended to come home as the big-shot fashion designer she’d always wanted to be, but her dream job turned into a nightmare, and now she’s crawling home to lick her wounds. When she meets up with two hot cowboys one night at Hell on Wheels, she decides they’re just what she needs to get her groove back.

Bailey Kent hasn’t stopped thinking about Brooke since he met her years before when he first visited Bliss. She’s his dream woman, and now she’s within reach. She responds so beautifully not only to him, but to his brother. They’ve shared women all their lives, but both know Brooke is the one. There’s only one problem. She’s his muse, but she sees him as a way station, not the destination on this journey she’s taking.

Only one problem? Shane Kent knows his brother sometimes doesn’t see the bigger picture. Bay’s head and heart are wrapped up in his art, and it’s Shane’s job to remember the reality of whatever situation they’re in, and this time it’s big trouble. Their last job took them to a ranch that might have been selling more than cattle. Shane witnessed something criminal and they ran, but their old crew is looking for them and he’s worried they’ll find Brooke, too. And then there’s the fact that they once hit on her sister-in-law and her brothers hate them…

It'll take a miracle to bring these three together, so it’s a good thing Bliss is known for them

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Wyoming

Shane Kent pulled the gloves off his hands as he walked into the barn. Despite the heavy, warm material, his fingers still felt stiff. There wasn’t much that could keep a Wyoming winter from freezing a man’s bones.

Why did it seem warmer in Colorado? He knew on an intellectual level that it wasn’t, but the time he’d spent at Stef Talbot’s always seemed so much warmer. Likely since in the first couple of years they’d known the man he’d been more than happy to share his lovers with them. Stef Talbot was Bay’s mentor when it came to art, but he’d been an excellent tutor at other things for Shane.

Since the man had married, he’d been happy to sponsor them at a couple of clubs, but he was far more private. Now a good deal of the warmth Shane felt came from Stef’s wife, Jennifer, and his parents, Sebastian and Stella. Oh, most people would call Stella Benoit-Talbot Stef’s stepmom, but she was his mother in every way but biology.

Biology meant nothing, and Shane knew it. Not that he’d been as lucky as Stef.

Don’t expect me to give a damn about you, you piece of shit.

Shane took a long breath and tried to let the memory go. He’d been five, maybe. Perhaps a bit older, but his stepmom never let him forget that while he and Bay shared a dad, Shane was the product of her husband’s affair.

He shook off the snow. The barn was quiet at this time of night. He should have headed to the bunkhouse where Bay was undoubtedly sitting on his bed sketching while the young cowpokes played cards and drank until they passed out.

They were getting far too old for this shit.

The last piece of work Stef sold for Bay had brought in five thousand dollars.

Which they immediately had to put into buying a new truck since the craptastic one they’d been driving for ten plus years finally died.

They couldn’t get ahead no matter what they did.

They were never going to get that sweet wife and house and family that actually gave a damn. They were going to be the old men of whatever ranch they happened to be working at. Always changing. Best he could hope for was to find a place where they felt comfortable and work until they died.

He was almost certain it wouldn’t be Kingman Ranch.

There was something wrong here. Something felt off. Off? He was almost certain Kale Kingman ran this ranch in fairly criminal ways and didn’t mind getting rid of what he considered baggage.

“We have a problem.”

Shane went still at the sound of the ranch foreman talking quietly. The voice floated down from the upper level where they kept a lot of the feed and equipment they needed for the ranch. Kingman was a top-of-the-line ranch with three big barns. This was the biggest and was equipped with what was essentially an elevator so they could move heavier stock up and down from the storage spaces.

There was a horse barn with every comfort he could imagine.

And there was that barn no one was supposed to go into.

“We always have a problem,” another voice said. Andy Mills. He was the foreman’s right hand. Andy and Dennis were the epitome of older career cowboys. Dennis lived in his own place next to the bunkhouse, while Andy had the only private room in the building that housed the ten ranch hands who lived on property. There were more who commuted in, but the hands who lived here were considered the inner circle.

Well, except for him and Bay. They’d been told they were in a probationary period and would be so for the first year. After that they would consider making them real Kingman men.

At the time he thought they’d watched too much Yellowstone.

He was starting to wonder if the dudes who made Yellowstone had gotten the idea from Kale Kingman.

“It’s the new guys,” Dennis said, and then his voice went too low to hear.

Shane froze, and it had nothing to do with the sub-zero temperatures outside. He stood stock-still, trying hard not to even breathe. He’d thought about sneaking out or calling up to let them know he was here.

But he and his brother were “the new guys.”

Bay didn’t see the problems, but then Bay saw the world through his weird-ass artist eyes and often missed the reality of situations. While he was trying to capture the essence of a place, Shane was having to make sure that place didn’t eat them alive.

He wished he could flip his stepmom off and let her know her precious baby boy was only alive because the bastard saved him.

But she was dead and no longer cared. And it wasn’t like she’d been great to Bay either. She was drunk most of the time, and when she wasn’t taking her rage out on Shane, she was weeping to Bay about how terrible her life was and how it was up to him to fix things, and why did he have to spend so much time with that bastard?

Zach Reed had two objectives when he joined the CIA team led by Ian and Charlotte Taggart. First, he needed to get close to Cooper McKay. Second, he needed to sideline or dismantle their operation. Getting to know Cooper was even better than he expected, but amongst the team he discovered a family he’d always dreamed of and a woman he wanted to spend his life with. Caught between his mission and his friends, his secrets are exposed, and his only choice is to run. He hopes someday he can make it up to the team and the young woman he’s fallen hopelessly in love with.

Devi Taggart thought she finally found the man of her dreams. Spending a long weekend with Zach filled her soul and satisfied all her deepest desires. But dreams turned to nightmares when she discovered he betrayed his team, including her brother. When Zach disappears, Devi swears to turn her back on the man forever. Unfortunately, the real bad guys have figured out she is Zach’s weak spot, which makes her a major target.

With Devi in real danger, Zach takes the situation into his own hands and offers her a place to stay with him. An offer he’s not about to let her refuse. As they navigate a criminal underworld, Zach is committed to showing Devi he’s the right man for her. If only they can survive his family

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Part One

Dallas, TX

Chapter One

Zach Reed loved The Hideout. At first he’d come to the BDSM club because it was part of his job.

Scratch that. He was trying to be honest with himself since he couldn’t be honest with anyone else. He’d come because he wanted to know what made Cooper McKay tick.

His brother.

He was with his brother. The brother he hadn’t known existed for the longest time. The brother he never intended to do more than look up, make sure he was doing okay. He definitely hadn’t meant to become his brother’s military liaison on a CIA team. Hadn’t meant to hang with him at a sex club. Nope. Not on his life plan.

He liked it. It helped that his brother was fairly private about his play.

“Well, I’m surprised Kala’s standing after that kick to the…” Dare Nash settled the vest over his chest and gave his aforementioned brother a pat on the shoulder. “Does she have a piercing there? That’s the rumor. Has anyone checked to make sure she’s okay? You know. Down there.”

Cooper snorted. “She’s fine. Trust me. It’s not the first time she’s taken a hit downstairs. My baby likes to get into fights. Also, maybe don’t tell her I call her my baby. She would take offense.”

His brother was madly in love with Kala Taggart, the single deadliest operative he’d ever worked with. He wouldn’t cross her if he didn’t have to.

He’d started to wonder if they ever needed to know the truth. He’d managed to hide working with Tristan Miles to bring down the infamous Jester.

Who he’d actually killed first, and for his own reasons. He’d sent in an asshole for Tristan to murder and let him think he was in control. Yeah, they didn’t need to know that either.

“At some point you have to make a move, right?” Dare asked. “I can’t imagine being close to Tash and never making a move.”

Oh, Zach could. He’d been rather enchanted by the lovely Tasha Taggart since the minute he met her, but she was on his team and honestly, he never felt like it was the right time to see if she was interested. First she’d had a fiancé, and then she’d needed space. Then she met Dare, and he no longer had any kind of a shot.

He’d come to believe it wasn’t love. It was more like wanting to belong. He might have started all this because his bosses at the CIA wanted shit on Ian Taggart and his unique team, but the truth was Taggart was a better man and better operative and ran a better team than any of those assholes ever could.

Would they cut him loose if he didn’t come through with something? Anything? Would they decide he was on the wrong side now and ship him straight back to the military where he wouldn’t be part of this family he found himself in?

He had to give them something or he was going to get cut, and right as he was finally getting close to his younger brother.

His brother was saying something about Kala needing time, but Zach’s head was on all the balls he was juggling.

Lying about why he was on the team. Lying about who his mother was—well, he hadn’t truly. He simply hadn’t mentioned that she was the elusive bombmaker everyone was hunting. Lying about who Cooper was to him. Lying about what he knew about Huisman.
Harlow Dawson went through something terrible while working a case in Los Angeles. She fell in love. To be fair, the love part wasn’t so bad, but the betrayal left her devastated and in police custody. She returned home to decide how to move forward. One thing was for certain. Her life wouldn’t include Jensen Wiley. Two years later she’s back on her feet, working with her best friend, and building her business. She’s been falling for a new guy at The Hideout. Niall Griffen makes her feel safe. Until she learns his secret at the worst possible time.

Jensen Wiley has spent years working his way up in the criminal organization that took his brother’s life. The only thing that ever threatened to break his need for revenge was meeting Harlow Dawson. She became his partner until he realized she was being drawn into the darkest part of the organization. He had very little time to get her out and didn’t think she would go quietly. He knows his betrayal saved her life, but he hasn’t stopped loving her. Now they’re in the same city and he needs someone watching over her. He means to keep his distance until she walks right into the middle of his mission.

Niall Griffen has worried about his best friend, Jensen, for years. When Jensen asks him to watch over the woman he loves, Niall reluctantly agrees. The trouble is he falls for her too. If nothing happens, he doesn’t feel there’s any reason to talk to his friend about their unrequited love triangle. But after one night together changes everything, Niall knows he needs a new plan to make sure no one gets their heart broken. The good news? Harlow comes from a family with an interesting dynamic. He just might be able to make this work for all of them.

Things begin to unravel when Jensen’s past comes back to haunt him and the man he’s been hunting threatens to turn the tables on him. Protecting Harlow is now the only priority and might just send them all right into the relationship they all need

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

Harlow Dawson sat on the bench in front of the locker that had been designated as hers since the day The Hideout opened and wondered if she should even be here.

Maybe instead of shoving her body into a corset and making sure her butt floss was properly positioned she should be at home, drinking tea and questioning all of her life choices. Beginning with the decision to hire Daisy O’Donnell. Sweet girl. Funny. Nice to have around. Cursed.

Firing her had been an excellent decision, but even weeks later everyone kept staring at her like she kicked a puppy.

A puppy who inadvertently sicced a hellhound on her.

“Hey, you okay?” Chloe Lodge-Taylor looked like she’d come straight from work, which given the fact that the club didn’t even open until nine said something about the young woman’s work ethic. She worked for one of her father’s companies as a junior executive, but Harlow often wondered if the job wasn’t making her friend utterly miserable. “I heard there was some trouble a couple of weeks ago. Sorry. I was in New York last week when Hurricane Daisy really blew through this time. Then I was in London and Madrid.”

Which all sounded lovely if she thought for a second Chloe was taking some time to smell the sangria. She wasn’t. She wouldn’t have done touristy stuff. She wouldn’t have taken a spa day or found new friends. Harlow was worried about her.

But wasn’t she doing the exact same thing?

“Is there a worse storm than a hurricane? Like what if a hurricane also threw bombs all over the place. Shit. I know where they got the idea for Sharknado. That writer met Daisy.” Ruby Lockwood poked her head around the corner. Her locker was on the next row, but it wasn’t like she couldn’t hear everything that happened in this part of the lounge. “Get this, Chloe. On her very first day…”

“First hour,” Harlow corrected because this was a story they would tell for all of time.

“On her first day, in the first hour of her employment, our brand-new admin not only sicced the deranged Dawson dad on us, but also managed to become a material witness in an ongoing drug investigation. Big Tag was forced to hire a bodyguard, who Daisy promptly fell in love with. They had to hide out in Sanctum because there was a cartel hit on her. They shot up Nate’s new truck and everything.”

Chloe sat down with a sigh. “Oh, dear. Tell me everyone’s alive.”

Harlow waved off the fear. “She distracted the assassins with her boobs and her dad turned the cartel on itself and all the bad guys are dead. Mostly. And did I mention the fall in love part? I’ve been told I’ll receive the save the date soon.”

It was how things tended to go on that side of the club.

The Hideout was made up of what Harlow liked to think of as two weird cults. There was the one she belonged to, which consisted mostly of young men and women who grew up with parents who played at a club called—sigh—The Club, owned by Chloe’s father, Julian Lodge. And the spy kids whose parents founded a club called Sanctum, watched over by a man everyone called Big Tag, who was a spy. The corporate kids, as Seth Taggart called them, mainly worked in fields like finance and law. The spy kids, well, there was a reason they had a conference room that sometimes was filled with people who went by names like Mr. Black or Ms. White.

Or Ms. Magenta, but at least she knew what to call those two.

Sometimes she worried she fit better on that side of the club.

Opening a private investigations agency apparently wasn’t on the same level as Chloe’s junior executive or her own sister’s budding art career. Sometimes her dads acted like she was rebelling when they literally made their living as detectives. Well, outside of the massive trust fund they came into when they were younger.

“Daisy O’Donnell is getting married?” Chloe huffed. “I did not have that on my bingo card this year. Her cousin getting a venereal disease was, though. Did you see his latest… Do I call them girlfriends?”

“And I’m out.” Ruby disappeared again. “Let me know when we’ve moved on to new material.”

Harlow groaned, facing her childhood friend. Ruby had a point. They’d had this talk before. A lot. “I don’t think he has girlfriends. But then it’s not like you have boyfriends.”

Chloe had been circling Seth Taggart since they were teens, though it didn’t reach the level of enemies who would almost certainly end up as lovers until they opened The Hideout. Chloe had rejected Seth’s advances since the first night when he offered to top her and she told him she needed more than he could ever give her.
From New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake, discover The Park Avenue Promise Series...

Three young women make a pact in high school—
to always be friends and to one day make it big in Manhattan

Built to Last

Harper Ross has always dreamed of working on one of the magnificent brownstones of Park Avenue. Now one of her closest friends has bought the house of her dreams and hired Harper to do the construction work. She wants to showcase the renovation on a television show for her brand-new production company. It’s the same grand home she and her friends promised themselves they would be able to afford one day. Working on it isn’t the same as living in it, but it’s all a part of Harper’s grand plan to grow her father’s construction business into one of the biggest in the city. The only obstacle—the designer on the project.

Reid Dorsey believes in the balance between beauty and functionality. As one of Manhattan’s new voices in design, he’s excited to get to work on a true Gilded Age property. If only the owner had selected a contractor he enjoyed working with. Oh, Harper was brilliant and her work was excellent, but she has an opinion on everything—and it’s usually the opposite of his.

Over the course of the job, these enemies start to see different sides of each other, and suddenly their fights don’t seem so bad. But when the project is threatened, they might have to choose between their jobs and the beautifully designed future they could share.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter One

I stand in the middle of what was once a grand ballroom and think about all the work ahead of me. Soft light filters in from the big windows that overlook the garden, and I can’t help but wonder what it must have been like to stand on the balcony and watch the stars and the moon.

Not that you can do that today, but I don’t think pollution was quite as bad during the Gilded Age when this mansion was built. I could be wrong about that. History isn’t my best subject.

But architecture is.

Banover Place. Once this magnificent mansion was owned by a railroad tycoon, and the family also ran bootleg booze during prohibition as evidenced by the tunnels below the house that lead to a hotel two blocks away. So much history in one home.

I can’t wait to get to work. This is the job I’ve been waiting my whole life to do.

“What do you think?” Anika asks. Anika Fox. One of my two best friends since we were kids. Anika, who will soon be known as Her Majesty, Queen Anika of Ralavia. Long live the queen and all that.

She’s not wearing her crown today, but there’s no doubt my bestie rules her world with a kind smile and a lot of love. She’s a very modern monarch, and she’s the reason I’m standing in this mansion.

“I think it’s going to be beautiful when I’m done with it,” I reply with confidence.

I’ve gotten to know this house. While Anika was a contestant on a reality dating show that took place inside the mansion, I was brought in to ensure production didn’t ruin the aesthetics of the place. Or destroy a hundred years’ worth of history because they needed better lighting. I’ve worked here for months, but what Anika is now offering is far more than some handywork.

A complete renovation. I’m going to get to completely renovate this glorious monstrosity of a house. The thought of spending hours and hours bringing this place back to its former beauty excites me in a way I can’t explain. I’ve worked in construction all of my life, but this is different. This isn’t building something new, some nondescript office structure in Brooklyn or a high-rise condo. This is delicate. This feels like art to me.

“And you’re sure it’s not going to hurt the business?” My other best friend, Ivy Jensen, walks back in from the hall.

She’s got reason to be worried. She helped me pull my father’s construction business out of possible bankruptcy. Ivy is a tech goddess who’s working on perfecting the AI software she developed with her fiancé, Heath. Beyond that, she simply knows how to run a business. She quickly identified the problems and restructured how the company handles our finances and voila, we’re thriving again. She also found me a tax attorney who managed to get our ass out of the fire because Dad and my uncle had never seen the benefit of paying their taxes. So I understand why Ivy wants to make sure the company I inherited from my father is steady. “I can handle both jobs. It’s not like I’m on-site much these days. I can take meetings with clients in the mornings and get here to set before lunch. Paul’s going to handle the day-to-day operations while I’m working here. It’s an eight-week gig.”

“We hope,” Ivy points out. She gestures around the grand ballroom. “You never know with these things. I’ve been watching a lot of real estate and renovation shows, and something always goes wrong. Always. Have we checked the water heater? Does anyone know the difference between black mold and regular, won’t-kill-you mold?”

“Well, for one thing, it’s black in color.” It’s fun to have Ivy freaking about things in my world. It’s a little payback because I freak out about computer stuff, and I swear the damn things hate me and love her. I lose a spreadsheet and call Ivy because I won’t be able to make payroll, and she swoops in and it comes back with the stroke of a key. So I’ll tease her a bit about this. “The only mold I’ve seen is in the bathroom down the hall,” I say, knowing she recently used that sucker. There is no mold in Banover Place. “As long as you don’t breathe in there, you’ll be fine.”

Ivy pales a bit. “I want a hazmat suit.”

“There’s no black mold,” Anika assures her. “We’ve already done an inspection. We had to in order to get the insurance.” Anika frowns my way. “You know she gets nervous about mold.”

I’m not sure why since Ivy Jensen fears nothing. I mean nothing. She should totally be more worried about her sketchy dining choices. I’ve watched her down tacos from some dude selling them out of a cooler off 44th Street right before the cops chased him away.
Shahidi Davis’s world exploded the night Myrddin took over the supernatural world. The child of powerful psychics, Shy was the only member of her family to escape the death the wizard delivered that night. Unfortunately, death still came calling when her power manifested itself. Her first encounter with a ghost earns her a trip to a mental ward. Guided by a very dead Harry Wharton, she begins to come to terms with her abilities. Her gifts lead her to the rebel army where she finds a new family and Rhys Donovan-Quinn. Overflowing with life, he is the perfect balance for a woman mired in so much death.

Zoey Donovan-Quinn needs to find her friends. The Day family is crucial to the war effort against the man who cost her twelve years with her children. More importantly, she loves Sarah, Felix, and Mia. They fled the plane to escape Myrddin, but the doorway Sarah opened was destroyed. Zoey thinks she’ll find another way to reach them on the Faery plane. And she can take this time to connect with Shy, who she’s certain will be her daughter-in-law someday.

But things are not all right in Faery. Zoey, Dev, and Daniel find the royal palace in chaos, while Shy and Rhys get drawn into a problem that could change the plane forever

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Dallas, TX

My hands shake as they shut the door and I’m locked in with my nightmare.

Water flows not three feet away from me, like a waterfall, but in a never-ending churn that comes from nowhere and goes nowhere. There is nothing peaceful about this waterfall. This waterfall is death and despair.

“Shahidi Davis,” a deep voice says from behind the locked door. “She’s fifteen. An orphan. Her family died in a house fire a few years back, and she went into the system. Eighteen months ago, her foster mother found her screaming about something she called a water demon.”

I know it’s not a demon now, but in the moment I saw those hollow bones behind the water and it was the only word I could think of. No one believed me, of course. No one. I’m cut off from the supernatural world since my parents died, and I can’t get anyone to call me back.

I tried our family friends when I had a phone. No one answered. I called Sarah Day, a witch who worked with my mom and aunt from time to time, but the number was disconnected.

Like I’m disconnected.

“She was in quite the state when she was brought in. We believe she’s got early onset schizophrenia,” the doctor explains. “Tell me. What course of treatment would you begin?”

Drugs. Lots of drugs.

They keep me… Not calm. I’m never calm when that thing is close to me. The drugs simply keep me from being able to defend myself.

I sit on the bed, not able to really get up because the drugs make me dizzy. I can’t defend myself from anything in here. They make sure of it.

I wish my mother was here.

I feel a tear slip down my cheek because this is what every day looks like. I try to tell the doctors what’s happening, what I’m seeing, what I am now. Some nod sympathetically and up my dosage. Others sneer and tell me I’m lying because I’m lazy and don’t want to go to school.

I wish I was in school. I used to love school. I was told once my power manifested, I could join the school where all the werewolf and Fae and witch kids went.

I haven’t seen a supernatural creature in years. My family died and they sent me straight into the human foster care system. I remember waiting and hoping someone would come looking for me. We had friends in that world, friends at the Council.

No one ever did. I never got to that school.

Instead, they bring in a tutor a couple of hours a day for us and they treat us like we can’t read or understand mathematics.

I glance over and wonder what would really happen if I walked into that water. Would I be free? Would darkness take me and it could all be over? Or would I be somewhere worse. Some hellscape the spirit owns.

“Hello, Shy.”

Even through the fog of my brain I hear the man talking to me. From inside my room.

“Don’t panic,” he says and drops to one knee in front of me. “I’m not a spirit, though you shouldn’t fear those either. You’re so damn young and have had no one to guide you. These ghosts you see are not the enemy. You were born for a specific purpose, though I’m sure you don’t care about that right now. I’m so sorry this happened to you.”

“Who are you? How did you…” Sometimes it’s hard to find words. Especially right after they give me the medicine. “The doors are always locked.”

“I suppose it doesn’t matter since there’s almost no way you’ll remember.” He’s a handsome man with dark hair and his eyes… I never saw eyes that color before. Violet. And they nearly glow in the low light. Even on one knee he looms above me. “I’m what you would call a prophet. I witness the important events of our world. Needless to say, I’ve been busy lately.”

So I’m asleep and dreaming. At least he seems nice. This dream guy. “Why would you be here?”

“For the same reason I convinced your friend to have a sleepover the night your parents were murdered.”

The words send a shock through me. “What?”

He stands and then moves to sit next to me. “Shy, I see the possibilities of how the world will go. They are laid out like infinite roads. Technically I’m simply here to observe, but what I’ve learned is that sometimes I can choose the path. Or at least who I can put on the path. You are important. More important than you can imagine. More important than anyone can know.”

I shake my head. “I should have been home.”

“If you had been home, you would no longer be on this plane of existence. You would not be able to do what you were born to do. Myrddin doesn’t know it, but you are the one he was trying to take out. He only wants the psychics he can control. For him it was a power play. He never realized he could have won the war with one fire.”

Pilar

“Your father is dying.”

My older brothers and I exchanged a grave look at those words. It wasn’t a surprise or a shock. His health had been declining for years, and it was only a matter of time before it happened. None of that made it any easier to prepare for. My mother was stoic even as she laid the news out for us. She once said she’d learned the trait from watching my father. In the silence of his chambers, I tried to form a chant inside my head. “Long live the king!”

It was something people said in pubs while drinking, outside of the palace walls during ceremonies, and in the form of a salute when they met my father. My father. The King of France. The one who was slowly deteriorating in the room next door like many kings before him.

We were well-taught and knew the history of our sovereigns, as well as the ones in my mother’s homeland of Spain. The one constant in all of those stories was death. Death by plague, death by combat, death by cancer, but always death. However timely or untimely it may seem. Yet when faced with it, we weren’t sure what to do. When confronted by it, we all felt the same thing those outside these walls felt. Even if we didn’t show it on our faces like my mother. On the inside, we wept and trembled. We were scared. We felt hollow.

My eldest brother, Elias, took my right hand. My other brother, Aramis, took my left. We squeezed, the three of us knowing that this would change the course of our lives forever. We were the only ones who could possibly understand what the other was feeling, allowed ourselves to wallow as our mother stood with her back to us, her head held high as she looked out the window.

“He wants to crown Elias before he goes,” Mother said, her voice shaking. “He wants to be here for that, at least.”

Elias’s hand tightened on mine. He hung his head as if her words had delivered a blow. I knew they had. One thing Aramis and I did not envy was that Elias was next in line. The idea of being king may seem exciting to some, but we knew the reality of it. The proof was dying in the next room.

“The doctor is giving him six months,” Mother continued. “You will all be on your best behavior in the coming weeks. Your father does not want anyone to know about this yet. Not until everything is ready for the coronation. That means you may take your short holiday as you normally do, but no scandals this time. We do not have room for missteps. Elias, you’d do well to use this time to reflect. It may be the last time you’re able to do that. Aramis, I beg you to be discreet. Please, no tabloids. Pilar, you’ve never given us any grief. Please keep it that way.”

She turned and faced us. It was then that we saw her grief-stricken expression and bloodshot eyes. The three of us moved closer to each other, huddling in as if to prevent anything from coming between us.

“This is what we’ve tried to prepare you for your entire lives. Don’t let us down.”

CHAPTER 1

Pilar

“How hungover are you?” my best friend and personal secretary, Joslyn, asked as she opened all of the blinds.

“Very,” I croaked, throwing an arm over my face to shield myself from the sun. “Don’t worry, no scandals on my end.”

“You sure about that? The chef spotted Benjamin Drake leaving your villa just before five o’clock in the morning.”

“What?” I sat up quickly with a gasp. “No.”

“Yes.” She raised an eyebrow. “I take one night off, and you go out partying without me?”

“I…” I shook my head. “I went to a Hookah bar and then to the club beside it…” I tried to recall memories from last night. “I…yeah, I definitely spoke to Ben. I think we may have danced.” I shut my eyes momentarily. “I was extremely drunk.”

“And you’re on medicine.” Joss shot me a heavy stare. “You know better than to mix things like that with alcohol.”

“Fuck.” I brought my hands to my face and wiped at my eyes. I’d completely forgotten that I’d taken the medicine the doctor had given me for the sinus infection I no longer had. It had been my last day of taking it. “How could I not remember spending the night with Benjamin-bloody-Drake?”

“How indeed?” Joss sighed as she sat on the edge of my bed. “You must have made a good impression though.”

“Why do you say that?”

“His people called me an hour ago. He wants you to accompany him to a gala next week.”

“Me?”

“Yep.”

“Why me? I don’t even like public appearances.”
Kala Taggart has known she was in love with Cooper McKay since she was a young girl. But her wild-child ways sometimes clashed with Coop’s apple pie, all-American persona. After the worst night of Kala’s life, she decided to give up on having any kind of normalcy. She focused on her future and let the idea of Cooper go.

Cooper knows he screwed up with Kala when they were young, but the adult Cooper is unwilling to let their past rob them of a future. He joins her CIA team not for the thrill of the job but to be close to the woman he’s always loved. He spends night after night with her at the club, trying to fulfill her needs, to prove he doesn’t need some perfect partner. All he needs is her.

When Cooper and Kala are assigned to a mission, they find themselves locked together and forced to face their problems. As the truth of that long-ago night slowly comes to the surface, Cooper has to admit that Kala might be further from him than ever. And all his plans come crashing down as the elusive terrorist they’ve been hunting makes a move no one is expecting, but the real threat might come from within

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Part One

That Night

Chapter One

Kala Taggart forced air into her lungs and tried to relax. Like this was a normal, everyday Saturday night. It was in some ways. She usually did sneak out of the house to spend time with Cooper, but tonight she was doing something different.

Tonight, she was going to make Cooper McKay hers. Her first. Her only because she was going to love Coop for the rest of her life. And she wasn’t going to fake die on him like her mom had, so there would be no need for whatever the hell they did on Saturday nights.

She was pretty sure she knew what they did and it was gross because…parents…but what she was about to do with Cooper would be beautiful.

And it was a nice night for it. There was a full moon illuminating the path from her house to his. Only three blocks separated them, but it was too much. She lived for these nights.

“You’re going to get caught one of these days, and Mom will ground you for life,” her sister had said as she’d climbed out the window. She would give it to her dad. He knew how to lock down a house, but she’d figured out how to screw with the sensor in the window of the bathroom she shared with her sisters, and luckily it was big enough she could wriggle her way out and shimmy down the drain, avoid the cameras, and then she was free.

Honestly, she kind of enjoyed the exercise and was looking forward to the next time her dad redid the system. Getting one over on the old man was truly something to be proud of. She liked a challenge.

Cooper’s house wasn’t much of one. His dad wasn’t as crazy paranoid as hers. It was easy to move around the sparsely placed motion detector lights. She crept around the back of the house, working her way toward the door leading to the kitchen. Cooper always left it open for her. She’d done it at least a hundred times since she realized she didn’t actually have to listen to her parents when they told her to stay home. She had feet and they took her places.

Cooper was her favorite place.

“Hey.”

She nearly started at the sound but managed to play it cool. Coop sat on one of the lawn chairs by the pool everyone joked about. Like hey, do you remember the time we buried our enemies in your pool jokes.

Her parents were weird.

Of course, they might not be joking since her dad used to work for the CIA and her mom counted assassin in her previous professions. “Hey.”

She gave him the smile she only ever had for him. The truth of the matter was she had quite the reputation as a heinous bitch, and she was proud of it, mostly. But not with him. Never with him.

“You’re late,” he said, standing. He was tall and lanky, and she could remember a time when they were the same height, but the last few years had put a foot on him and she hadn’t kept pace. “I was starting to get worried.”

“It took forever to get Travis to go to sleep. Seth pays no attention whatsoever to what’s going on around him, but Travis is more aware,” she admitted. “And somehow he can tell me and Kenz apart.”

Cooper’s brows rose. It was his dumbass-said-what look. “Of course he can. I know you’re twins, but you are unique. I hate it when people pretend they can’t tell you apart. There’s no one quite like you, Kala.”

He was the only one who seemed to see her. Well, everyone saw her. He was the only one who didn’t think she was a bitch who happened to have a saintly sweet twin. Like she and Kenzie were mirror images of each other, but Kala was the evil version. Not to Coop. Coop saw her for who she was. He always had. Ever since they were kids.

It was why she loved him. It was why tonight was going to be their night, and then they would go to the dance together and everyone would know they belonged to each other.

And those mean girls who hung around because Coop was gorgeous and popular and on all the sports ball teams could fuck themselves.

“Hey, I heard something about Kyle and MaeBe,” Cooper said, worry in his tone. “Is that woman back?”

Ah, Julia Ennis. Kyle Hawthorne was her cousin. Technically not by blood since he and his brother David were her Aunt Grace’s sons from her first marriage. But blood didn’t mean a lot in her circles. When Grace had married Sean Taggart, those brothers had become family. Kyle had played with her and her siblings, babysat them, always got them ice cream when they were kids. He’d been gone for a couple of years and everyone pretended like he was in the military doing normal military things, but Kala was excellent at breaking into records and listening when she wasn’t supposed to. She got grounded a lot, and it was her parents’ fault because there wasn’t much to do when she was grounded. Eavesdropping and spying were the only fun times to be had. “Yes. From what I heard this week, she’s been causing all kinds of trouble. She wants to kill MaeBe because she thinks once Mae’s dead, she can, like, move into her place or something. She’s pretty psycho.”
Sabrina Leal moved to Bliss looking for a new start. She’s in charge of building a school system from scratch and is excited about the challenge. What she didn’t count on was the surliest bar owner she’s ever met. Sawyer Hathaway gets under her skin in the most annoying way. He’s arrogant and sometimes rude, and she can’t stop thinking about him. It’s easier to ignore him when it’s only Sawyer. But when she meets his best friend, Wyatt, he’s light to Sawyer’s darkness, and the combination calls to Sabrina in a way she might not be able to deny.

Sawyer likes things the way they are. Alone. No serious connections. Just him simmering in his own unresolved trauma. Like a real man should. But the new schoolteacher is making it hard. And the reappearance of Wyatt in his life isn’t helping. Years before, Sawyer had joined an outlaw MC when his brother had gotten in trouble. Wyatt had been a true friend, and when he needs a short-term place to stay, Sawyer can’t turn him out. Short term turns way longer, and the baddest man in Bliss has to admit it’s not terrible to have a friend. But there’s no way he’s getting involved with the sweetest thing he’s ever met.

Wyatt wants Sabrina the minute he sees her. He’s spent his whole life in the equivalent of a criminal, violent cult, and he wants some softness. He wants the white picket fence dream of Bliss. His best friend. Their wife. Throw in a super-cute rescue dog and a couple of kids and Wyatt would be in heaven. When his scheming gets all of them snowed in together, he knows he’s got his shot at making this work.

But the MC isn’t done with Wyatt or Sawyer, and Sabrina is exactly the bargaining chip they need…

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Sawyer Hathaway stared at the Bliss Town Hall like it was a snake that could bite him. Would bite him. Might bite him. Maybe.

He growled and was reminded he wasn’t alone when a canine head came up, swiveling and looking around for a threat. The German shepherd mix was proof that things happened to him when he moved into this weird world. He’d found the dog eating out of the trash bin behind the bar he owned. She’d been skinny as hell and flea bitten and scared. He should have shooed her away, but he’d known the minute she whined and tried to grab a moldy, half-eaten sandwich that he would at least take her in for the night. He’d fed her and given her a warm place to sleep and taken her straight to Noah Bennett’s animal clinic here in Bliss.

And somehow he’d left with her and a bunch of medications Noah had convinced him she needed. Now he had a dog.

He wasn’t a guy who had a pet. He was a badass, a once upon a time criminal, a dude the sheriff feared. He wasn’t a dog dad.

“It’s okay.” He reached out and patted her head. “The only threat here is to my dignity. The sheriff doesn’t like me. Probably because he’s an ex-DEA agent and I used to be a member of an MC that ran a shit ton of drugs. I didn’t do it for the money, but I don’t think the sheriff wants a rundown on how I went into a life of crime to try to save my brother.”

The same brother who’d stood in front of him and told him he didn’t want to see him again because Sawyer was part of a life he wasn’t ever going back to. Now Wes had a wife and kid and a house in Denver, and Sawyer hadn’t seen the brother he’d spent much of his life and pieces of his soul trying to protect in years.

The dog stared at him with soulful eyes. She was a good listener. She was probably the only listener Sawyer’d had since he’d joined the Colorado Horde. He’d had friends before then. Ty and Lucy and River. He’d pushed them away because of the danger he’d represented in those years and was only now finding his way back, which was precisely why he was sitting in his Jeep as the town Christmas party went on in front of him. He watched as Max Harper herded one of his kids inside. The boy. Sawyer would bet his wife Rachel had taken their oldest, Paige, with her when she came in to set up for the party. Sure enough, Rye Harper, Max’s twin brother and Rachel’s other husband, hustled in behind them.

Max Harper. Sawyer shook his head. “Even after all these years it’s weird to think of Max as a dad. As a husband, really. He’s the single biggest asshole I’ve ever met, and I’ve met Taggart. Max was born an asshole. Like the man was born without a single fuck to give. The good news is his brother seems to have gotten an adequate amount. Still have no idea how Rachel puts up with him. Not that I know her well. She doesn’t exactly frequent Hell on Wheels.”

Hell on Wheels was a world he understood. It was the bar his granddad had started over forty years before, and Sawyer had ended up in charge when he’d died five years back. Just in time for Sawyer to find refuge there. The bar had become the bane of his existence and his sanctuary. He worked and then went home to sleep, and then started it all over again. He rarely came into Bliss, preferring to drive hours to larger towns where no one asked questions or tried to make small talk.

No one asked about his dog or if he’d finally named his dog, and how the hell did he have a dog?

There was a tap on his window, and it took everything Sawyer had not to reach for the gun he kept close at all times—a habit mostly from those years when the world had been brutal and dangerous. Luckily he’d trained it out of himself enough so he didn’t point a gun in Jax Lee’s face.

The smiling dude waving at him while standing in the snow had married Sawyer’s childhood friend years before. “Hey, Sawyer. How’s it going? You missed the dinner party last Saturday.”

It was past time to get this over with. He might be able to pawn everything off on Jax and get back in time to… Work a shift he wasn’t supposed to work? Lark would get pissy with him since she rarely got to handle the bar by herself. Apparently he was overbearing or something according to his employees. Lark had been happy to send him off, perfectly thrilled to have a Saturday night all to herself. Well, and the other three employees working this evening. Lark and Sidney would handle the bar and customers, while Gil worked the fryer and Joe punched the crap out of anyone who thought Lark and Sid were on the menu. The Saturday night crowd could be rough. It was precisely why he almost never skipped one.
