His hat tipped back askew, and I moaned into his mouth when his cock started to grind into my pussy.

He ripped his face away from mine and dropped me to my feet, leaving me standing there, panting.

“What?” I gasped in confusion.

Then I heard my brother’s clodhoppers banging toward us.

“Have you seen my phone, Kitt?” Ridley called. “I can’t find it.”

“Couch,” my voice croaked. I cleared my throat and said more clearly, “Couch.”

“Ahh, there it is. Thank you,” Ridley said, shoving the phone into his pocket, picking up his keys off the floor next to the coffee table, and walked toward us.

“Why’s your face all red?” he asked, pushing his way past me.

Apple had already stepped all the way down the porch steps to his bike, leaving me there looking utterly ridiculous.

Fumbling with the shirt, I pulled it off over my head and reached for my boots.

“Why are these outside?” Ridley asked.

My face flushed even more.

Last night was so not me.

In fact, it wasn’t even in the same realm as the normal me.

“I don’t know,” I lied, following him down the steps once I got them pulled on.

Ridley stopped next to the hood of his truck, and his eyes zeroed in on a spot.

“Nice,” my brother pointed to the ass print that was on the top of his truck. “I hope you’re practicing safe sex.”

I nearly swallowed my tongue, staring at my brother like he’d grown a second head.

I certainly wasn’t practicing safe sex.

Apple’s eyes flared at the mention of safe sex, and his eyes went down to the butt print he’d had a part in putting there the night before, and his eyes smiled.

His mouth didn’t so much as twitch, though, causing me to want to throw my cup of coffee at him.

“Can you give me a ride today?” I batted my eyes.

Ridley looked at me, then back at his bike, and sighed.

“Yeah,” he replied stubbornly.

I wanted to laugh, but my brother knew better than to not listen to me.

Especially after the fourth time of having to come get me from work or school.

I smiled and skirted past Apple to get in the front seat of Ridley’s truck.

Apple’s eyes stayed on my butt as I climbed inside, and I felt the brush of his fingers along the seam of my pants before I scooted into the seat completely.

I tossed him a heated look over my shoulder, admiring his outfit.

He was in a tan shirt that the muscles of his arms bulged out of. A pair of hunter green pants that hugged his sexy ass to near perfection. A pair of black boots and a white cowboy hat finished off the ensemble.

He looked pretty snazzy if I did say so myself.

I opened my mouth to reply when a shiver raced up my spine.

My eyesight narrowed, and I breathed out shakily.

“I’m going to throw up.”

Chapter 4

I accidentally punched myself in the face while trying to pull my comforter up last night. If that doesn’t accurately sum up my day, I don’t know what does.

-Apple to Ridley

Apple

I was nervous as hell to see her.

Why, I didn’t know.

I was a thirty-five-year-old grown man, and no little woman like the likes of Kitt Walker should make me shake in my boots, but she did.

After the meeting at the clubhouse this morning, I’d been tasked to follow Ridley to work so he could consult with me on something he was having trouble with.

All the men knew I used to be a police officer.

I’d spent ten years as a beat cop in Los Angeles, California, and I’d burned out quick.

I’d moved back to Texas, after a particularly bad arrest, quitting the force to lick my wounds.

I’d started helping my father with his logging business and was applying for jobs here, in hopes that I would not get sucked into the black hole that was my father’s business. Again.

After having little success, I’d moved onto a different field, thinking that continuing my career as a game warden would prove more appealing.

And mostly, it had.

About six months ago I’d transferred from West Texas to East Texas.

Ultimately, I enjoyed the shit out of my job.

It was fun.

What I didn’t enjoy was being brought back into the shit that I’d left behind.

Meaning, I was not looking forward to going to Ridley’s office and learning why he wanted me to follow him there. Getting drawn back into a police matter, even just as a consultant, was not on the top of my favorite-things-to-do list.

But I’d do it anyway.

In the months that I’d been prospecting for The Uncertain Saints, I’d found that I was sleeping better at night.

My headaches came less often, and I could breathe easier with them surrounding me.

I didn’t think they had any idea just exactly what they were doing for me, but I was glad to tell my father he was right.
