“Don’t. Move.”

Beast’s face contorts, but he remains put where he was, watching like a hawk as I slowly move away from the bars and into Lex’s hands.

The feel of his grip around my waist as he pulls me out of the cage makes my insides knot.

“I’ll take her now,” he tells Beast with a filthy grin. “You won’t mind if I borrow your toy for a while, will you?”

Beast merely growls, but his eyes are filled with a fire I’ve only ever seen once before; when I tried to shoot him.

“Thought so,” Lex adds, and he quickly removes me from the cage before shutting the door behind us, sealing it tight. “It’s about time we had another chat.”

CHAPTER 14

Beast

Raymond walks to the back of the cellar and fetches some fresh clothes, which he throws at me through the bars. “Put some clothes on, you bastard.”

I ignore his words.

“Where did he take her?” I growl.

He just smirks at me. “Who the fuck knows. Why do you care so badly? Got a little crush, doggy?”

I slam the bars with my bare hands. “Give her back!”

He laughs and steps even closer, dangling the keys between his fingers like he’s taunting me with true freedom nearly within my reach. “You think she’s yours?”

“My owner gave her to me,” I say through gritted teeth. “Where is she?”

“If I had to guess …” He licks his lips. “The bedroom.”

I shove myself into the bars and lunge through them with a single arm, grasping ahold of his shirt and dragging him toward me. “If any of you hurt her, I’ll fucking eat you alive.”

The guy’s pupils dilate, and he quickly pulls out the stun gun and rams it into my chest.

I groan out loud from the sheer pain of the electrical current coursing through my veins.

“Get your filthy fucking hands off me,” Raymond growls.

He applies another pulse, forcing me to release him.

He swiftly steps away, out of my reach, while I catch my breath with my hands on my knees, breathing through the pain.

With a foul grimace on his face, he says, “You fucking try any of that shit on me again, and I will fucking shoot you.”

“You’re not allowed,” I say, gazing up from underneath my eyelashes. “I’m far too valuable to him.”

He sneers, “I’ll fucking blast you with this stun gun all fucking day if you keep it up.”

I don’t relent. “Bring. Her. Back.”

“Just because you had some fun with your shiny little toy doesn’t make her yours,” he replies, straightening his shirt. “Don’t you forget who owns you.”

My nostrils flare. “Mark my words. If he hurts her, I will slaughter each and every one of you.”

His eyes widen, and he steps away while I stare until he’s gone back up the stairs and locked the door, sealing me away in the darkness.

But we both know no amount of wood or steel can ever contain this beast.

One fucking day …

I will rain down hell.

Aurora

Up the stairs, the light takes some adjusting. I blink a couple of times, but the door closing behind me makes me jolt.

Lex laughs and continues his walk, flicking his finger, and I take it as a sign to follow him. He’s definitely shown me what he’s capable of, and I don’t think I want to find out what he’ll do to me if I don’t listen.

I gulp as he brings me into a giant hallway and goes up the stairs. I silently traipse behind him, gazing around to take in my environment in case I’ll ever need to tell the cops, or my father’s men, about this place.

A big chandelier hangs from the ceiling, extravagant paintings of beautiful women and scenery all around, carpets on the floor that look handmade, and a few intricately painted vases. The man is rich, that much is certain, but the price it cost was heavy.

My hand slips on the banister, and I raise my fingers only to see caked blood.

I gasp.

Lex pauses and glances at me over his shoulder, his eyes quickly trailing down to my hand. “Oh. Seems the maid forgot to clean that spot.”

My stomach almost turns around right there and then, but I swallow back down the panic and wipe my fingers on my already bloodied dress. Then I throw him an awkward smile.

“But you’re used to seeing blood, right?” he bemuses.

Like it’s the most normal thing in the world.

“Your father wasn’t exactly a proper tradesman, now was he?”

I simply nod.

“We all do things we’re not proud of. For the greater good,” he adds, and he turns around and marches off.

I quickly follow him into a room up ahead filled with expensive-looking furniture—thick, red curtains in front of huge panel windows, a leather lounge in the middle, a black piano in the back, and a bed with soft pillows that I could drown in. If I could stay here instead, maybe it wouldn’t be so difficult to be a prisoner.
