Jesus, he needed to go.

Needed to get back on his bike and go the fuck home.

Because he was afraid this visit was going to take a turn. One he would regret later.

“You’re scared of me, aren’t you? And it has nothing to do with who my father is, does it?”

“I’m not scared of you.”

The corners of her mouth curled up as she studied his face, which he purposely made blank.

“Yes, you’re scared of me for some reason. Do you have a problem with women?”

“Only my ex. She’s a nightmare.” And that was a nice description.

“But you married her anyway.”

“I was tricked.”

“Or maybe you tricked her.”

A valid point, but wrong. “I never pretend to be something I’m not.”

Her eyes narrowed on him. “Aren’t you pretending now?”

Fuck.

Fuck.

Fuck.

This woman was good. Too good for his comfort. “I have to go.”

As he turned on his heel, she grabbed his arm to stop him. “Proof you’re scared.”

“Will you stop saying that?”

She shrugged. “Prove to me you’re not.”

“And how do I do that?”

He didn’t like the smile that crossed her face. It puckered his asshole and tightened his chest.

What was she up to?

He sucked in a breath as she reached up slowly, curled her hand around the back of his neck and pulled his head down.

She stared into his eyes for a second before they slid closed, and her warm breath whispered over his lips.

He stared at her mouth. It wouldn’t take much to close the gap between his and hers.

But that would be stupid and reckless.

Her eyes opened and she closed that gap.

He yanked free of the hold on his neck. “Not a good idea, Cabrera. In fact, it’s a really stupid idea.”

“What are you scared of?”

Tasting you. Touching you. And then wanting more.

“Chicken,” she whispered.

“Fuck it.” He grabbed her, slammed her chest into his and pressed his mouth to hers.

Her lips were still cold from the pool, but not for long. They turned soft, warm and pliant. They also fit too perfectly against his. He encouraged them open by drawing the tip of his tongue along the seam.

And when she did, he took her mouth like it was his.

At that moment, it was.

No one else could have it. It belonged only to him.

He swallowed her groan, and it encouraged him to take the kiss deeper, even though he should be doing the opposite.

He should be running, not walking, away.

Her slender fingers gripped his bearded jaw as she gave as good as she got.

Their tongues touched, tangled, and took turns exploring.

He curled his arm around her and tugged her even closer, if that was possible.

He wanted to prove to her that kissing her was nothing to him.

Nothing at fucking all.

He could kiss her and simply go on with his day.

Like nothing ever happened.

He wasn’t afraid of her.

Or of this.

Or…

Her hard nipples pressed against his chest. Her hand not gripping his face and holding him in place as she kissed him deeper, more frantically, settled on his chest.

She had to feel his heart ready to beat out of his damn chest.

That wasn’t fear. That was…

A man wanting a woman.

In all ways possible.

His erection was more proof.

Was she only testing him? Or was she grinding her hips against his because she wanted him as much as he wanted her?

Either way, it wasn’t good.

This was very fucking bad.

If this continued, it could lead them on a path of no return.

A mistake they could not undo.

An action they would eventually regret.

Making working together uncomfortable and unbearable. It could disrupt the team.

This had to stop.

And it had to stop now.

He twisted his head, breaking the seal of their lips. He remained turned away with his eyes closed as he gathered his lost brain cells.

And his common sense.

Then he heard it. Her breathing.

Quick and shallow.

The kiss had affected her as much as him.

She did want him.

Fuck.

That was going to make it so much more difficult to keep things professional.

To keep things between them uncomplicated.

“Yeah, you’re scared at where this will lead. You’re struggling,” she called him out. “You don’t want to admit what you want. You don’t want to give in to temptation.”

Setting his jaw, he opened his eyes and met hers. “Shut up.”

“See? You can’t even deny it. And even if you did, that steel rod in your jeans would prove you’re lying.”

He released her and took a step back, putting space between them so he could think.

His only thought was to escape.

“I gotta go.” He jerked into motion and strode quickly toward the back door.

“You never told me the reason for your visit,” she called out, making him pause before going inside.

He should go to Williams and demand she be removed from the task force. He needed to stay away from her. Because he wanted so much more than that damn kiss.

He wanted her underneath him, squirming and meeting him thrust for thrust. Crying out his name, encouraging him to fuck her harder.
