“I’m not happy about it now.” Cian’s eyes are wide as he cups himself.
I’m satisfied with that. At the very least, Cian got a bit of that pain. I pushed it outward, and my twin caught the edge. “That’s what you get, you nosy bastard. You had to open your damn mouth.”
I manage to stand up straight, trying to ignore the pulsing pain in my cock.
Meg rolls her eyes. “I don’t see what the problem is. It’s not like you were planning on using it, not for anything interesting.”
A flush of rage rushes over me, washing the pain away. I take my wife’s chin in hand and force her to meet my eyes. “You’re pushing it, Meggie.”
Her gaze is steady and strong. There isn’t a hint of fear in those eyes. “Yes, I am, and I’m going to keep pushing until I get what I want. I am not a child. I’m a woman, and I know what I want.”
I have to turn away. It’s too tempting to see if she really means it. I stalk toward the front door. “I’m sleeping in the barn.”
The door slams behind me, and I wonder if I’ll survive this marriage.
Chapter Seventeen
Meg
“Bastard,” I swear as my coward of a husband flees the house.
My hands clench and unclench as I try to deal with the anger I feel. He’s treating me like an idiot who doesn’t know what she wants. I felt his need. It rolls off him in waves. He wants to dominate me, and I want it, too. Why can’t he trust me? Why can’t he trust himself?
“I don’t think you’re a whore,” Cian says quietly.
I turn and remember I’m alone with my slightly insane second husband. My brain hurts. I say the only thing I can think to say. “Thanks.”
Cian’s expression is sweet. It’s hard to believe people get him confused with Beck. “Beck’s always had a stick up his ass when it comes to sex. You’ll have to forgive him. Please don’t kick him in the balls again. It hurts me, too.”
I hadn’t realized it would affect Cian, too. I’d just been enraged. “I’m sorry.”
He shrugs his broad shoulders. “It’s all right. He deserved it. We should go to bed. Will you come with me? I was cold in there all alone.”
I hesitate. I don’t really know him. Or do I? Is he truly the other side to the man I’ve started to fall for?
“I promise I won’t tie you up until you ask me,” he says with an innocent look that makes me laugh.
I take his hand. Cian’s right. It’s a chilly night. It will serve Beck right if I stay warm while he sleeps with the chickens.
Cian looks down at me. “I’m Cian. What’s your name?”
I walk straight into the bedroom, pull a pillow to my face, and scream.
Chapter Eighteen
Liadan
Deep in the night, I watch as Beck strides across the yard and slams the door to the barn. I can’t help but smile. It looks like there’s already trouble in paradise. I’m not surprised. The girl is human. The woman Beck married might have everything necessary to be a bondmate, but she hasn’t been trained.
I think of all the curses I can put on the redhead. It would give me great pleasure to watch as the king’s new bride’s hair falls out or her skin withers and dies on her body. It won’t take much. The human is ill-prepared for life on this plane. She will likely have no defenses in place against a nicely crafted spell. It’s tempting, but there are ways to track a spell back to its originator. I have to be careful with my magic. After all, I’m supposed to be a simple Fae lady, not a hag of immense power. I would have killed Cian Finn years ago if I was able to truly use my skills without fear of retribution.
It’s incomprehensible that Beck chose that idiot human over me. I’m beautiful. I made sure of it when I started this mission. I chose the perfect façade. Liadan O’Neill is every inch the elegant Fae lady. I turned myself into the perfect bait. My looks and manners should have been enough to ensure that the twins fell in love with me. It hadn’t happened that way. It took a long time to get Beck to come to my bed, and Cian avoids me altogether.
I’m not sure what is between the human and Beck. He isn’t sleeping with his new bride for some reason. He won’t be able to resist her for long though. He broke off his relationship with me. Beck wasted no time doing it, either. He knocked on my door earlier this afternoon and refused to come in. He told me that he’s married and won’t be seeing me again. It was obvious that he was trying to be kind, but there had been a dismissiveness to the whole conversation that infuriates me even now.
