I was now married to the love of my life and expecting his baby, and this sent Bronagh into full alert. She was constantly in I-will-take-on-God-himself-to-protect-my-sister mode. I couldn’t be mad at her for it, even though she did sometimes make me question why I didn’t file for a restraining order against her. She meant well—that was what I kept repeating to myself whenever the urge to pick the phone and call the Garda arose.

The urge was dangerously tempting at the current moment.

“Bee.” I chortled as I placed a folded pair of leggings into my suitcase. “You know I’m goin’ on me honeymoon, right? That kind of means you can’t come.”

I still couldn’t believe I was going on a real honeymoon. Ryder surprised me with a wedding, a truly beautiful wedding that was more than I could have ever dreamed of. When I thought about it, and how all of those I loved were involved in it, I still got giddy and checked my left hand for my ring just to make sure it was real and that I didn’t just make believe it happened.

I was really married to Ryder Slater, and I loved every single second of it.

We were leaving for our little getaway later in the evening, and since I’d worked more shifts than usual over the past month, it meant I left all my packing until the last minute. I wasn’t stressed about it. In fact, I wasn’t worried about it in the slightest because Ryder and I were going to a cabin deep in a private woodland three hours away, where we wouldn’t need much of anything. The package deal Ryder bought was an all-inclusive secluded getaway. The cabin we would be staying in would have enough food and supplies for the two weeks we would be there. It was originally only supposed to be a one-week visit, but Ryder extended it for us to have extra alone time. He even picked some additional goodies, since my appetite and sweet tooth had been growing with each added week into my pregnancy.

I had been daydreaming about it since Ryder told me about the fantasy trip after we got married. We were both constantly surrounded by our family, and people in general, so going somewhere where it was going to be just the two of us for two whole weeks had me twisted up in all kind of knots. The good kind of knots that my husband would surely spend hours working out with his hands, mouth, and coc—“Branna, are you even listenin’ to me?”

I jumped when Bronagh’s voice cut off my train of thought, and I hoped my guilt didn’t show on my face.

I cleared my throat. “Of course.”

My sister deadpanned, “What did I just say then?”

Shite.

“Um... you were sayin’ that... you... that you should come on the honeymoon with us regardless of what Ryder and everyone else thinks... right?”

My sister raised her brows. “Oh, you were listenin’. Sorry.”

I would have thought myself psychic for guessing correctly if I didn’t know my sister so well. She had become shockingly predictable over the last few weeks. I knew her every move before she played it, and it helped keep me sane because I knew when she was about to pull something insane.

Like now, I silently grumbled.

“So yeah,” Bronagh continued. “I should go. I will stay in me own room with Georgie ‘cause I obviously have to bring ‘er. We won’t bother you both but—”

“No,” I cut her off.

She narrowed her eyes at me and said, “Give me one good reason why we shouldn’t go.”

I could have listed millions, but I went with the most important one.

“Because it’s me honeymoon.”

“So?” Bronagh huffed. “We can make it a familymoon and—”

I cut my sister off with joyous laughter, and it irked her.

“You’re actin’ the maggot now,” she grumbled. “I’m bein’ dead serious about this.”

That was what made it so funny.

“Bee, would you want me to come along on your honeymoon?” I asked and smirked knowingly. “Think about it very hard now. While you and Dominic are lovin’ each other as hard as you possibly could, would you want me in the next room gettin’ a play by play of each nip, kiss, slap, and thrust?”

Bronagh’s face scrunched up in distaste.

“For God’s sake! Why’d you have to go and word it like that?” she asked, and shivered in what I think was disgust.

I loved that we were both adults, but sometimes, I could still gross her out when it came to conversing about sex. It reminded me of our ten-year age gap and that she was still my little sister even though she didn’t act like it a lot of the time. She was grown and had a child now, but she was still the annoying brat who touched my stuff growing up, and no one could ever change that. Not even her.
