He has to be at least five years younger than me. But man, it’s tempting. One night with him could definitely get me back in the game. I’ve avoided relationships for so long that I know I don’t want one. My last one ended with him cheating on me and I definitely have no desire to go through that again.

But man, if I had one night with Brewer. I put my hand to my forehead. Get it together, Maggie. You’re not going to have a one-night stand.

Christie puts her hand on my shoulder. “You okay? You’re holding your head and you look a little flushed.”

I jerk my hand away and try to get out of all my wayward thoughts. “Yes, of course, I’m fine. Just a long day ahead.” I’m the head teller at our local bank and Christie is the branch manager. We’ve been friends for years now and by the way she’s looking at me she knows something is up.

She pulls into the parking lot, parks and turns to me. “Does the flushed face have anything to do with the teenage hottie watching your ass the whole way to the car?”

“Was he?” I ask, and then realize I’m caught. “He’s not teenaged. He’s in his twenties. And how do you know he was watching me? You were faced the other way.”

She taps the rearview mirror. “Saw the whole thing. He was something else far away… how was he close up?”

I grab my purse and get out of the car, but Christie’s hot on my heels. Literally. “Well, was he hot or do I just need to go and check him out myself?” I turn around quickly then, a jealous anger building inside of me and about to come out. I’m about to spout off to her exactly what she can do with that idea when she bursts out laughing.

With a big smile on her face, she asks me, “So it’s like that, huh? He must be hot then.”

She walks past me, unlocking the bank doors. I can’t get the image of Brewer out of my mind. “You coming?” Christie asks me, holding the door open.

I nod my head and follow her into the building, ignoring her smile the rest of the day.

“You don’t have to wait,” I reassure him for the third time. Christie had to stay late and so Tad offered to drop me off to get my car. Tad is everything you would expect with that name. He has the preppy clothes, a clean look and even the loafers. He’s a loan officer at the bank and has been asking me out for awhile. I always turn him down, but it doesn’t seem to slow him down any. When this opportunity to have me in his car arose, he jumped on it.

“No, it’s fine. I’ll wait. I want to,” he tells me as I get out of the car. Brewer called me around lunchtime to tell me my car was ready. I talked to him a few minutes, but when I realized I was being flirty, I quickly got off the phone. It’s like I have no sense when I’m talking to him. I walk toward the repair shop and don’t even have to turn around to know that Tad is watching my ass. I start to go inside, but Brewer stops me.

It’s then I realize I didn’t imagine it at all. He is definitely hot and the chemistry between us is off the charts. I talked myself down at work, convincing myself that I’d let my imagination go wild, but that’s not the case. Nope, my insides are turned to jelly and heat is radiating off of him.

“Who the fuck is that?” Brewer stops right in front of me and points behind me. I turn around and look at Tad standing next to his BMW. He’s watching us and I know his interest is piqued.

I turn back to Brewer and I can almost see his body vibrating, waiting for an answer. Too bad it’s not going to be the one he wants.

I put my hand on my hip and look up at him. He looks dangerous right now. I don’t think he’d hurt me but even I’m a little nervous by the look on his face. “I don’t think that’s any of your business.”

He looks up at Tad again and then takes a step toward me. “That’s where you’re wrong. From this point forward, anything that has to do with you has something to do with me.”

I gasp at everything he’s implying. One part of me wants to test this, see how far he’s willing to go. The other part knows he’s probably a player. My protective instincts finally kick in. “Can I have my car?”

“Sure.” He takes the keys out of his pocket and hands them to me. “I put two new tires on the back and went ahead and changed your oil. It was due.”
