"Fuck." A laugh spills from my lips. "I forgot."

He smiles. "Should we watch it now?"

"Later. I need to shower before dinner." I slide out of bed. Stretch my arms.

Then he says the last thing I expect. "I'll join you."

He's never done that before. We've never been in that small space together.

Something about the lights. Or his memories. I don't know.

"I can't promise I won't try to fuck you again," I say.

He cups my cheek with his palm. "I wouldn't want you to."

I lead him into the shower, run the water, climb into the small space with him.

He helps me soap, rinse, condition.

Then I do the same for him.

We stay there for a long time. Until we're prunes.

He helps me dry. Dresses as I finish my hair and makeup.

I see it when I step into the bedroom.

Adam, at the modern dresser, his back to me, his eyes on something in his hands.

A tiny blue box.

A real engagement ring.

He runs his finger over the metal. The rock. Takes a deep breath.

Then he closes the box. Hides it under his black boxers.

I jump into the bathroom. Force my eyes to the mirror.

He's going to ask.

For real this time.

Adam Pierce is going to ask me to marry him.

Two years ago, the request was terrifying.

Now, it's everything.

I adjust my hair again. Add one more coat of lipstick.

When I step into the bedroom, he looks at me like he's considering the question.

"You ready, angel?" He offers his hand.

I take it. "I am."

"You're thinking something?"

I'm going to blow the surprise. And I know Adam. He's planning something special. "That I want to go again."

"Already?"

"What do you mean already?"

"You're insatiable."

"You love it."

"I do." He cups my cheek with his palm. Pulls me into a soft, slow kiss. "I love everything about you."

When I pull back, I'm shaking. "Is that a yes?"

"What do you think?"

"After dinner?"

He nods. "After dinner. Trust me. It will be worth the wait."
