Dad doesn’t respond. I can’t see him, but I wonder if he’s still trying to look at me, because he had just been staring at me, not doing anything else. That is until King manhandled him out of our room.

“King, sweetheart,” I whisper.

“I said, do you feel me?” King hisses toward my father.

“I’ll be in the kitchen,” Dad says quietly. I find that weird, too. My dad never walks away—like ever.

In answer, King slams the door so hard I’m surprised it didn’t come off the hinges. He walks over to me, his fingers gently touching my cheek. He leans down and kisses my now dried tears. “I’m sorry, baby. I don’t know how that asshole got the door open, but we’ll face them and get this over with.”

“It’s okay, King.”

“It’s not. It will never be okay for anyone to treat you like that and throw shit in your face. It’s especially not cool that it’s your father.”

“King—”

“It also pisses me off that the motherfucker stormed in on a private moment with me and my woman. It was time that is only for the two of us and the fact something beautiful between us is now marred and ugly for you pisses me off even more.”

“King …” I whisper because his words are everything I need to hear right now. My man loves me. I’m secure in that. I’m safe with him and because of that, after years of thinking I knew what love was, I realize how stupid I’ve been my whole life. Until now.

“Let’s get in the shower and clean up. Then we’ll face them together.”

His words make me smile as I look into his beautiful eyes. “Together,” I tell him.

“That’s right, Sunshine. Always together.”

“I love you, King.” My words make him smile and I feel that smile vibrate in my heart.

“I love you, too, Gabriella. I’ve heard Dragon tell Nicole something I never could grasp until lately with you,” he whispers.

“What’s that?” I ask, my heart skipping a beat when he calls me Gabriella. God, he’s everything. Every-fucking-thing.

“I love you down to my bones, Sunshine. Down to my fucking bones.”

If happiness could make you explode, I’d be smithereens by now. “Down to my bones,” I whisper back. He gets me. I get him. We’re right. We work. King is where I’m supposed to be. I’m where he is supposed to be. This is it. I don’t know how it happened. I hate the road I took, but there are no doubts in my mind. I belong right where I am in a way I know it’s where I was made to be all along. Somehow, I think my man is feeling the same exact way because I read it on his face. “At last, my love has come along,” I whisper, giving him the words of arguably Etta James’s best song ever.

He grins, a huge, dazzling smile that lights up his entire face. “Cause that’s how much I feel for you, baby,” he says, making me straight up giggle. “Let’s go shower, sweetheart.”

“Together?” I squeak. “My parents are just in the other room.”

“Together, and just so you know, I’m going to fuck you in the shower too, and I’m not going to be quiet doing it.”

That gives me the all-over-body tingles, and even if I shouldn’t—and that’s debatable—I let him lead me to the shower. I have shower sex with my old man while my parents are in the other room.

And it is spectacular.

Chapter 38

King

“Here, Sunshine,” I murmur, pulling the one stool we have with a back on it. I help her sit at the bar, kiss the top of her head, and stare at her parents. They’re sitting across from us on the remaining two regular stools. They’re drinking coffee that Beth apparently made while Gabby and him were in the shower. She also scrambled eggs, fried sausage, and made toast. I can’t tell that they’ve eaten, but I appreciate the gesture. I go to the fridge and pour Gabby some almond milk. She semi-hates it. We found that it makes the morning sickness which she can still have—even now—settle down. So, she drinks it with breakfast. I steer away from the eggs, but I get a paper plate and put her a couple pieces of sausage on it. Then, I butter two pieces of toast and put some apple butter beside the sausage, before getting her a fork and taking it to her. All the time I’m doing this, the three of them are kind of staring at one another, but not saying a word. Well, Gabby and Beth are staring. I can feel Skull’s eyes on me—and I don’t give a damn. I put it all in front of my woman and she looks up at me with a stress-filled smile.

“I’m not really hungry, honey.”

“Jellybean needs his or her momma to eat,” I whisper looking into her eyes that look more green than blue today—but are just as spectacular.
