She makes a little sound, gasping as she sways some. Looking dizzy like she might even fall, but there’s no smoke today.

Only fire. And it’s a blaze I wanna put inside her so we can both burn together.

“Bridget,” I groan, taking a step inside.

“Ash,” she gasps, and I feel her body pressing against mine, her arms and hands finding my waist through my leather jacket as she grips me tight.

The pressure of her soft curves, her chest against my body, draws another low growl from me.

Her little sounds are telling me she’s up for way more than just talking about what happened yesterday.

My hands explore her back, moving up to her neck and then tilting her head up toward mine; we share a knowing look before I lean down.

Both of us knowing this is what we really want. What she really needs.

And as I watch her face moving closer to mine, I promise myself silently that this is a moment I’ll never forget.

Our future starts now, not yesterday.

And when I feel my mouth pressing hard on hers, hearing her little mews of relief as she realizes the same thing, I know that one kiss is never gonna be enough.

One day with her could never satisfy me.

It’s a forever deal, and we’re sealing it without words in a single kiss that feels like it lasts a lifetime.

The first of an eternity of endless kisses I have for her, but I already want more, and if her body’s reaction is anything to go by, once I let her feel just how much I need her right now, she’ll want me just as much.

CHAPTER NINE

Bridget

Ash’s card is one of the first things I see when I wake up from a fitful but dream-filled sleep.

I believe I relived the fire about a hundred times in my dreams. But every time it had the same happy ending.

He fell into his arms, holding me close against his rock-hard body. His dark eyes blazing in my mind, echoing the one word he said I’ll never forget.

“Mine.”

I messed up yesterday by taking off after he asked me out, so when I learn that he’s not only called around to see me but left his card, and Mom didn’t even tell me? I’m a little more than my usual grumpy, not a morning person self.

I’m shrieking at my Mom, half excited Ash even came here, half furious that she didn’t tell me. I’ve never raised my voice to either of my parents, especially my Mom. But both she and my Dad are busy getting ready for work, and my Mom only points out with a sigh that she probably forgot.

“I did leave the card on your dresser, Bridget, so there’s no need to raise your voice,” she cautions me. Her eyes narrow on mine as she crimps her lips tight.

I look to my Dad for support, who only shrugs, notices the time, and sucks down the last of his coffee before he takes off for work himself.

“I have some errands to run, but we can talk some more about it when I get back,” my Mom says in a warning tone.

Meaning she’s got plenty more to say on the matter, and I’m not gonna like any of it.

Gnawing at my lip once she’s gone, I feel like I need to talk to Ash more than ever but feel more paralyzed with fear that he won’t answer, or worse.

I worry that because I’ve left it a whole day, he’ll assume I’m really not interested in the way I know now that he really meant.

I barely remember making the call, as if the sound of my voice, all my actions are somehow from someone else. But when he answers and lets me know how close he is, I know without him telling me that he’s been waiting for me as much as I feel deep inside I’ve been waiting for him.

Hearing his truck pull up after what must have only been a minute, I forget I’m still in my pajamas and haven’t even showered or brushed my teeth yet.

Flinging the door open and swooning with fresh arousal once his eyes meet mine and travel down my body, I know that none of that matters to him. Nothing like that compares to the need we both suddenly feel for each other.

Seeing him for the second time proves that he’s hotter than I remember, and I was a fool for turning my back on him.

That first kiss is supposed to be something a couple remembers forever, and like everything else Ash does, he knocks it out of the park.

Pressing his mouth hard on mine but holding me gently enough not to crush me with his strength. I feel one of his huge feet pushing mine firmly apart.

I gasp with pleasure at the sensation of my saturated mound. My sex is already primed for what I know he’s really come here for.
