He frowned as water sluiced over his head, suds rushing down his body and into the drain.

Breck wasn’t Ryan, though. He was different.

Maybe he would make concessions. Unlike Ryan, maybe he wanted a companion.

Kai groaned and rubbed his face, then shut off the water. Climbing out of the shower, he reached for a towel.

Bottom line: there was no way to know.

And thus, no concrete way to ever really decide.

Meaning he’d have to play this thing with Breck by ear. Because while a part of him could see Breck in his future, he didn’t like putting his heart on the line. Which made this whole thing like a fork in the road. Maybe tonight would shed some light on which direction to go.

Drying off, he finished things up in the bathroom, then combed his hair back and secured it behind his head. He regarded himself in the mirror. Dark brown eyes stared coolly back, wordlessly relaying one sentiment. I hope you know what you’re doing.

His lips quirked. Because he didn’t. Was flying by the seat of his pants. No plans. Just raw instinct. But sometimes that was the best.

Heading back into his bedroom, he donned the night’s attire; every article, incidentally, black. Black leather pants. Black nylon tee—that, under certain lighting, appeared nearly transparent. Two studded wrist cuffs. A studded belt. And combat boots.

The downstairs buzzer sounded. He descended the steps into his living room, then made his way to the security panel beside his door. “Come on up,” he instructed through the intercom, remotely unlocking things in the vestibule below.

Breck pushed through the door a moment later, dressed as always in athlete-chic. Knee-length basketball shorts and a slightly snug tee.

“Hey.” He smiled. But then he abruptly stilled, his jaw going slack as he regarded Kai’s duds. “Damn,” he mumbled. “Jesus... Look atchu.”

Kai grinned, amused. “Long time, no see.”

Breck tamped a laugh. “Yeah, nearly twenty-four hours.”

“Hungry?”

“No, I’m good. But thanks.”

Kai poured himself some water. “How ’bout a drink.”

“Naw… I think I’m good there, too…” Breck was staring at Kai’s outfit again, his expression a mix of trepidation and blatant desire.

Kai’s body heated under the weight of his stare.

Breck cleared his throat and crossed his arms. “So… what’s the plan?”

“Get you dressed.” Kai took a drink. “Then hit the road.”

Breck shifted his weight, then gestured with his chin. “Am I dressing like you?”

“Sort of.” Kai smiled.

Breck narrowed his eyes. “Don’t make me regret this.”

Kai laughed and set his glass down. “You can always say no.”

“Whatever.” Breck waved impatiently. “Lemme see what you want me to wear.”

He was curious. Kai could see it in his eyes. But then, Kai was curious, too. He wanted to see how Breck would react, but he also wanted a look at him in his brand-new sub gear. His long, lean, agile body all adorned in black.

Moving to the island, he picked up a large, deep clothing box, its exterior iridescent onyx, and brought it over to Breck. Breck regarded it tentatively, then lifted its lid and pulled the first item out. A shiny black latex crop top.

His eyebrows furrowed. “This is… way too small.”

Kai chuckled. “It’s rubber. It’ll stretch.”

Breck shot him a look, then muttered something and set it aside. Hesitantly, he pulled out another. More shiny black latex, but this time as shorts. Short shorts. Breck blinked, then started laughing. “Man, whatever. No way I’m fuckin’ wearing these. They’re waaaay too small.” He gave them a stretch. “And way too tight.”

Kai grinned, amused and wholly entertained. He’d expected Breck to react this way. “That’s how they’re supposed to be. Very popular. Nearly every sub owns some.”

Breck winced as if it pained him to look at them. “Yeah, but… Jesus… They’re so fucking small.”

“Yes.” Kai nodded. Because they absolutely were. “Thighs like yours should never be hidden from view.”

Breck looked at him. Something smoldered in his gaze. Then, just like that, his whole vibe shifted. He looked back at the boy shorts. Chewed his lip. “You swear that others wear these? I won’t be the only one?”

Kai inclined his head. “I give you my word. You’ll fit in so well, no one’ll even notice you.” Although, that last part wasn’t necessarily true. He expected Breck to turn plenty of heads—but not because of his shorts. Every seventy-five decadent inches of him would demand their attention.

Breck set them down and reached for the third item in the box. Boots like Kai’s, of the combat variety. He pulled them out and cut Kai a look. “Guess I should’ve seen these coming.”

“Yes.” Kai smiled. “A staple in the community.”

Breck pressed one’s treading to the sole of his foot. “Nice. How’d you know my size?”

“Lucky guess.”

Breck smirked. “And lucky me.”

“Hmm…” Kai murmured. “But not as lucky as me.” He flashed Breck a flirty grin. Couldn’t help it. He’d suddenly found himself in an exceptionally good mood.
