This ... This is exactly what I needed.

My joy turns to little bursts of giggles as we wind around corners or go over bumps. Eventually, I relax back into the backrest and just take in my surroundings. The beautiful bushland, the mountains, everything about this place is extraordinary. I didn’t see it before, maybe because I really wasn’t looking. Now, my eyes are open, and I’m ready to bask in the beauty this land holds. Most importantly, I’m ready to do it with the biker in front of me.

Colt rides out of the town and along the highway for about two hours. I know he’s heading toward the coast, because as we go, the bushland gets thinner and the scent of ocean air fills my nose. The wind changes, the vibe changes, but it’s just as enjoyable. Pulling into a small, seaside town, I’m stunned because it feels as though we’ve stepped back in time. Small shops line the main street that is directly across the road from the beach.

There are only a few houses, and a couple scattered as you come in, but otherwise it’s as remote and beautiful as you could possibly imagine. Even before Colt stops the bike and we get off, I know I’m going to love it here. I don’t remember the last time I dipped my toes in the sand or ate at a beachside café. Excitement bubbles in my chest, and I’m more than ready to see where the day leads.

“This town is just stunning,” I breathe, my eyes following a few kids who run and play on the sand, their parents relaxing back in the sunshine.

“I love it here,” Colt tells me. “Makes my soul feel a little less dark.”

I look to him. “I don’t think you could feel dark in a place like this. How did you find it?”

“Used to bring Western here where he was a kid. Loved that café right there. It’s still running, so I come here every week,” he explains, pointing to a gorgeous little café sitting right on the beachfront with a balcony overlooking the ocean.

“That looks amazing,” I exhale, my entire body feeling relaxed.

“You hungry?”

I nod. “Starving.”

We cross the road to the café that is bustling. It didn’t look it from back there, but as we enter, I can see it’s incredibly popular. Large doors open onto the deck outside that is lined with tables. Couples and families sit overlooking the ocean as their children play on the sand below. The décor is all very beachy, with surfboards hanging from the ceiling, shells on the walls, and old memorabilia from ships scattered around.

“I love this,” I say, unable to wipe the grin from my face.

“Hard not to.”

“Colt, how are you, honey?”

A feminine voice has us both turning to see a gorgeous brunette walking toward us. Her uniform consists of black shorts, a light blue tank, and a checkered bow in her hair. She flashes Colt a grin that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable, like I’ve walked in on a very intimate scene.

“Good now I’m seein’ you, Farrah. Got a table for me?”

She flushes and steps forward, giving him a hug that goes on long enough for me to clear my throat.

“Oh,” she says, finally noticing me, “you’re not alone.”

I’ve been standing here the entire time, but okay.

“This is Chloe,” Colt introduces me.

Farrah raises her brows. “I haven’t seen you bring a woman here. Should I be jealous?”

Okay, so these two have definitely had sex. The stink is practically suffocating the entire café.

Colt winks at her. “Indeed you should.”

Well, that makes me feel a bit special.

“Well, any friend of Colt’s is a friend of mine,” Farrah says, turning to me. “Pleased to meet you, Chloe. Is it your first time here?”

I nod. “It is. It’s a beautiful place.”

“Best place I’ve ever worked. Come, I’ll get you both a table.”

She leads us out the back onto the large deck and gives us a table right near the railing, looking over the ocean. Sitting down, the wind whips through my hair, the scent of salt filling my nose. I can’t help but smile. There is something about the ocean that relaxes me in a way nothing else can. It brings a kind of peace to my soul that I just can’t explain.

“I can see why you come here so often,” I say, glancing at Colt who is sitting across from me. “This place gives you a feeling that cannot be explained.”

“Gets me away from all the shit that goes down at the club. It’s the only time I get any type of freedom.”

That makes me sad for him, because I know he’s talking about a lot more than the club’s business. Whatever happened with his son has a big part to play in it. I hope I get to know him enough to find out what went down but mostly to help him through. Colt has a hold on me, and already I know I want to find out more about him.
