“Yeah. Sure. That’d be great,” Colton says.

“You know it’s okay if he stays the night, right? We’re old enough to get it,” Nash says.

“Why would he stay the night?” I rush out, heart punching against my chest.

“Because he’s your boyfriend?” Nash phrases it like a question, but also like he knows it’s true and I’m the one who doesn’t.

“Colton and James are boyfriends?” Sadie asks.

The word no sits on my tongue. I don’t want to do anything to mess things up, to change the comfort we now all have with each other, but I don’t want to straight up deny who Colton is to me either.

“Yes,” Nash answers for us. “They think they’re slick, but they’re not. It’s ridiculous how they look at each other.”

Colton laughs.

“How do we look at each other?” I ask, then silently curse myself.

“I don’t think I should say in front of Sadie,” Nash answers, and I roll my eyes.

“Jesus, Nash,” I say, but really, I’m trying to bite back my own smile now. “We look at each other like…” How do we look at each other? That’s probably not how I should be answering right now, so instead I ask, “Would you be okay if we were boyfriends?”

“Yes,” Sadie says. “I think it’s cute.”

Colton rolls his head against the back of the seat and looks at me. “See? We’re cute.” He’s just…chill, like always. Nothing seems to ruffle him, and here I am, trying not to burst out of my skin.

“Nash?” I ask.

“Why would I care? I just got tired of seeing you guys try to hide it.” He chuckles, and it’s a beautiful, wonderful sound.

“Okay,” I say, my heart slowing. This is okay. We’ll be okay. “This isn’t like Sandra. It’s important to me that you know that.” She would move random men in and out all the time, and they were never nice to me. I don’t doubt she was the same with them.

“Nothing about being here is like being with her. We know that.” Nash sticks his earbuds in, and I know this talk is over, but he sees it, the difference. Things are better for him here, even if he’s not ready to talk about it yet, and that’s maybe the best thing that’s happened in an already perfect day.

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

Colton

“What are you thinking about?” I walk over to James, who’s leaning against the counter, staring off into space.

The kids are in their room and have been for a while. James came into the kitchen and started cleaning, though there’s not really anything to clean, but I know he needed to do that, so I let him, let him sort out the day and everything that piles up in that beautiful head of his.

“Everything,” he answers.

I step up close to him, press my body against his, place my hands on the counter behind him so I’m blocking him in. “This okay?” I ask. The kids know about us now, clearly, but I don’t know how comfortable he’s going to be still.

“Green.”

“Good boy.” I brush my fingertips down the side of his face. “Explain everything.”

“I don’t even know where to begin. Being at your mom’s house like that, seeing you with your family, feeling like a real family with Nash and Sadie, giving them this normal thing—a birthday party, playing basketball. Watching you with the people you love most in the world, your mom telling me I make you happy and that she approves of us.”

I beam. “She told you that?”

“She did.”

God, I love her. She’s the best.

“They know about us,” James continues, “and Nash says it’s different here with me. You’re my boyfriend, and the kids are happy, and I just…don’t know how to accept happiness without being afraid of losing it.”

“Baby.” I cup his face, hold it in both hands, press my lips to his, once, twice, three times. “Because you’ve never been shown it can stay. I’ll stay. As long as you want me, I’ll stay.” I kiss him again. “And I’ll make you happy, because you make me happy.” Another kiss, but this time, I flick my tongue inside, and he lets me.

The kiss deepens as James’s arms wrap around me. I pull him to me, lift him, his legs wrapping around my waist as we kiss our way to his bedroom. The second we’re inside, I set him down, lock the door, and then our lips are attached again, like they’re drawn to each other and nothing can keep us apart.

I rub my hand over his caged cock, making James whimper into my mouth.

“Please…Sir,” he says against my lips.

“Soon.” I pull my shirt off, tossing it to the floor. I take his off next, folding it the way he does and setting it on a chair. His pants come afterward, folded nicely too, then his underwear. He’s already straining against the cage, his dick fighting to harden but unable to.
