This was not all. It would also appear she had somehow signed herself up to volunteer at a local animal shelter. This now happened three days a week, and she always made sure she left at six in the morning. Either he or one of the guards had to take her, because Liana had never learned to drive.

The only saving grace at the moment when it came to his wife—she was an amazing cook. She did leave food for him to eat, which was a surprise, although she never ate with him.

Because she had explored every area of his country home, he decided a change was necessary and took her to the penthouse apartment he owned in the city. He figured a change of scenery would calm her down. The opposite happened.

Now that she didn’t need someone to drive her because she could just walk, it was proving to be a problem. She would get up early, sneak out, because it would seem his wife had the ability to sneak around without anyone hearing her. He had no idea when she had even been able to start fucking doing that. She snuck out, and rarely did any of the staff in the building even see her. He didn’t know how she did it, but the security cameras didn’t even catch her. It was like she had studied the way they moved, which was impossible.

He was tempted to call her father and brother, to try to figure her out. Clearly, his wife truly had been playing the role of doormat and amenable wife, and that was right out of the window.

“Are you okay?” Giovanni asked.

Diego took a deep breath. He was currently dealing business with all three of his friends. The business was out of the way, and they were enjoying a cigar and some drinks. Only, he was not drinking any brandy. He was convinced it was fucking cursed.

“Let me ask you a question, where are your wives?” he asked.

All three men shared a look.

“Do you know where they are?”

They all looked nervous. And then, one by one, they checked their cell phones, and he saw their shoulders droop.

So, his wife wasn’t the only one acting out.

“Mia’s escaped her guard,” Giovanni said.

“Clarissa sent me a text with her guard that is now sleeping,” Lorenzo said.

Emilio looked grim. “Tatiana is gone as well.”

He ran a hand down his face.

“Liana gone?” Emilio asked.

He nodded.

“We messed up,” Giovanni said. “Mia won’t go back to the house. She won’t even talk to me.”

“Tatiana is with her parents,” Emilio said. “Since that night, she called her father and asked him to pick her up. I have not been able to talk to her since.”

They all winced.

“Well, you have that mistress of yours, right?” Giovanni asked.

Emilio didn’t say a word.

“Liana has not stopped causing trouble. She wants a divorce,” Diego said. “I have a feeling she is trying to make it so.”

He had given her those two conditions because he truly didn’t think Liana had it in her to make his life hell. However, the past week hadn’t quite been hell, but it hadn’t been a walk in the fucking park.

Checking the time, he saw it was a little after eight, which meant his wife had been missing most of the afternoon. They had a lot of enemies, but they wouldn’t dare mess with his woman.

“If they’re all missing, that means they are together, right?” Diego asked.

“Where would they go?”

None of them had answers. So, they checked with their staff to see if they were having a girls’ night at one of the houses. That came up blank.

Just as he was about to call Liana’s brother and father, he saw her brother was calling him.

“I don’t have time right now,” he said.

“Yeah, you might want to know that my sister, along with her friends, are currently at one of your nightclubs, and they are drinking and dressed to party.”

“What the fuck?” Diego asked. “Stop her.”

“Okay, I love my sister, and I know my sister, and I want to keep the ability to father children. I might not be married now, but one day I will, and my sister will turn on me faster than anything. You’re on your own.” And with that, he hung up.

“Fuck!” He got to his feet and turned to his friends. “They’re at Diego’s,” he said. He was already out the door.

Diego’s was the first bar he owned, and since it opened nearly fifteen years ago, it had grown. At the time, his father had not seen the value in sinking money into anything legal—bars, restaurants, even casinos—but Diego had a bigger picture in mind. He knew money meant power. Wealth came from different sources, and with business, he got to meet a lot of powerful men and women. This is what also garnered Francesco’s respect. Also, the fact he killed mercifully, without blinking an eye.
