She stared at a tattoo that had obviously been done by Lyric. It was a well-done, realistic, three-dimensional drawing of a Harley’s handlebars. Inside the left handlebar was Ledger’s name.
Why would—
“Got room on the other side for our next kid’s name, too,” he stated proudly as he pointed to the right handlebar.
Holy shit.
“Our next kid?” She certainly wasn’t going to ask what he’d do if they had more than two kids because she had no plans to have even one more with him. “You’ll have to find someone else to push out those babies. It won’t be me.”
“Fuck that. You’re gonna be the only one havin’ my boys.”
Boys?
This man was utterly delusional. “You must’ve smoked some serious shit before coming over here tonight.”
With a smirk, he shrugged. “Kinda right. Smoked some damn good shit and then had a serious talk with myself over our future.”
She bugged her eyes out at him. “You had a serious conversation about our future without me being a part of it?” He’d been doing that a lot lately.
“Figured you’d agree.”
“Well, you figured wrong.” The audacity of this man! “Boy, are you skilled.”
“Yeah.”
“You know how to turn me on, then turn me off in seconds flat.” She slow clapped. “Bravo.”
Funny how quickly his amusement fled.
The second she turned to get her clothes, his hand shot out, grabbed her wrist, and he swung her around to face him. “Need to stop fightin’ this.”
She stared at his hand. “Did you just hear yourself?”
He released her with a sigh. “Not about sex. About us.”
“There is no us.” She wanted to rip her hair out and scream. Why were bikers so damn stubborn?
“You’re the mother of my son. You’re about to fuck me. Gonna say, it’s pretty goddamn clear there’s a fuckin’ us.”
She groaned. “Why do you make me regret every decision I’ve ever made since meeting you?”
His grin returned.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t be grinning. That wasn’t a compliment.”
“That’s ‘cause you let shit bother you.”
“Oh, and you don’t? Isn’t that why you’ve been to prison fifty-four times?”
“Ain’t fifty—” His jaws clamped together and he shook his head. “Just lookin’ for a fight.”
She huffed, “You’re one to talk about fights. But no, I’m protecting myself.” And my heart. “As well as our son.” And his heart.
She forced herself to keep her eyes above his waistline as he stalked toward her, dark, veiny erection in hand. “If I said I was gonna be one-fuckin’-hundred percent dedicated to you from this point on, would you believe me?”
“You’ve said that before.” She silently cursed at herself when her whisper broke.
She did not want to get emotional. She should be past that.
He pulled in a deep breath, released his cock, and framed her face with both hands. Closing his eyes, he pressed their foreheads together. “Yeah, I’m a stupid fuck and fucked up a good thing. ‘Cause you left, you missed me kickin’ my own dumb ass over it. Ain’t gonna fuck up like that again.”
Her heart squeezed. She wished she could believe him, but she also knew the biker culture. The temptations. The parties. The women. The club girls. The overindulgence of pot, beer, and booze.
On the other hand, she also knew a lot of loyal and loving bikers.
Zak. Diesel. Hawk. Crow. The list was long.
Maybe it all came with maturity. Or once they found the perfect woman for themselves. The fear of losing their other half might have helped keep them on the right path.
It clearly hadn’t worked for Zeke four years ago. Had he matured enough in that time for it to work now?
Would she even want to take that risk again to find out? His betrayal had been devastating. And obviously, she was still struggling to get over it.
Would she ever be? Would she always be wondering about it when she looked at him? When he came home late without an explanation? When the club business he couldn’t discuss with her ended up being not about the club at all?
Loving him was one thing. Trusting him again was another.
It would take a huge leap of faith. But this time it wouldn’t be her leaping alone. And yes, if it only affected her, she’d manage to survive the heartbreak again. She worried more about the vulnerable little boy only recently introduced to his father.
Everything she had done after discovering she was pregnant had been for Ledger. He was the reason she’d never blindly jump into a relationship ever again.
Including with Zeke. Or even with Glen.
“Ky.”
She opened her eyes but since they were nose to nose, his face appeared blurry.
Did he really want to take this very moment to go even deeper when they were only supposed to be keeping tonight at surface level with sex?
“Zeke, if we’re not going to have sex, then I’m getting dressed and you can leave.”
His head jerked back and now that her view of him had cleared, she could see his nostrils had flared.
