“Things will be back on track soon. I’ll just be your point man once again until Logan returns.”

My brows shoot up. What could he need to go to Scotland for? What could it have to do with Logan and LaSalle? Cole is now the Lord over the O’Brien clan since our grandda’s demise.

Uncle Finlay isn’t ready to step down as far as I know, so my curiosity is piqued as I listen to my da’s words. It’s not lost on me that Brooklyn has been going to Scotland and Ireland a lot. My curiosity is growing.

My da glances at me and gives me a nod as he ends the call. I step fully into the room and round the desk. Placing a hand on his shoulder, I then give it a squeeze and lean down to kiss the top of his head. When I go to pull away, he grabs my forearm with a surprisingly strong grip.

He then turns to look at my knuckles. “Ach, I see Cole had ya go take care of that problem. Get some ice from yer ma. How are ya, lad?”

“Can’t complain. What about ye?”

He looks up at me with his green eyes and narrows his gaze as if trying to see if I’m telling a fib. When he finds what he’s looking for, a huge smile comes to his face. He stands and pulls me into a hug.

“I don’t tell ya how proud I am of ya enough. How’s the gym?”

“We’re doing good. I might have a new fighter and a new potential coming on,” I say with a grin.

My thoughts go to Ciara and Ciarán. While I would put Ciara in a fight today, I have a few things I want to work on with Ciarán. Stamina and strength are what I plan to focus on first.

“It makes me sick what ye boys have gone through because of me da. We’re going to make things right. In the end, it will all be right,” he says cryptically, pulling me from my thoughts.

“Am I missing something here, Da?”

He pats my cheek. “No, no. Are ya staying for dinner?”

“Ach, no. I’m having dinner with a friend. I’ll come by soon to spend some time with you and Ma.”

“Aye, next time bring yer friend with ya. Yer ma already gives me shit because I don’t force ye boys to come around more. She’s even starting in on Con and Kate. For fuck’s sake, ye all have lives. Just do yer oul fella a favor and stop in more.”

I chuckle. “I’ve got you, Da, promise.”

“That’s me big lad.”

“I thought I heard ye voice,” Mom says, causing me to turn for the study’s door.

She’s standing there with her hands on her hips, looking like a female version of my Uncle Joe. She’s five nine and has the same golden eyes as my uncles and their father. Her dark hair spills down her back to her butt and has a natural wave to it.

Athena Kara Black-O’Brien is one gorgeous woman. I can see why my da fell for her. We used to tease Uncle Joe and tell him he was supposed to be a girl with his pretty face that looked just like Ma’s. To be honest, we all take after Ma and her good looks.

I move to tug her into a hug. She wraps her arms around me and holds me tight. I can’t help thinking about how Ciara is so much shorter and smaller than me.

“Ye stink of sweat, but yer still handsome as ever. Come let me feed ya.”

“I can’t. Not today. I need to talk to Da for a bit, then I have to head out.”

“He has a date,” Da chuckles from behind me.

My cheeks heat. I never said it was a date, but I guess he’s right. I do plan to spend some time with Ciara. I’m a bit nervous.

There’s still something Ciara should know about me. I’ve been warring with how or if I should tell her at all. Maybe I shouldn’t.

“Well, if that means ye plan to make me grands I can actually spoil, have at it.”

My heart pangs. Ma hasn’t been happy about not getting to spend time with Shauna. She understands why, but she’s still not happy.

Once Logan is out, we’ll all be able to move more freely. Ireland will come with less caution. Brooklyn may be the Irish lord, but he has to watch his back for now. Thank God for the McGowans.

They have really stepped up in the wake of Cole’s transition to fill my grandda’s position. Once this alliance fully forms, a lot will change. I may not be in the know of all the details, but I know enough to know things will be a lot different.

“Hold on, Ma. I did want to ask you for something,” I say as I remember why I wanted to see her while I’m here.
