It was then I realized for the first time the dynamics in our little group. I’d forgotten that we weren’t all the same, or weren’t supposed to be, but I also realized in that moment why it was so easy to forget.

When Jace told them not to worry that he’d take care of it, it finally registered that that’s what he does, what he’s always done. He’s the damn fixer.

Only this time when he said it, it wasn’t with the air of lightness that the teenage boy had about him only yesterday, but like someone with authority. I’m not paying the price for Mandy’s bullshit. He takes away one more freedom of mine I’ma scalp that trick.

“Cassie, sit still before you choke.” It wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet and this one was acting like she’d found everything she asked Santa for under the tree.

When she turned to me with a new light in her eyes, a grin on her face with her spoonful of Greek yogurt on the way to her mouth, I figured I could put up with Jace’s crap for a few days if whatever he was doing had put that look on her face.

I pulled into the driveway and jumped out of the car before it had come to a full stop, leaving it for one of the overpaid servants to put away later. I stopped just outside the door and called the principal to take care of one little detail that I’d forgotten.

“If you call my parents about this I’ll have the videos of every time you licked my ass all over the five o’clock news, pervert.” I didn’t have to identify myself I’m sure he knew who it was before I hung up.

I composed myself before walking into the house. I still didn’t know what I was going to do but I had to do something. I could call any one of the men in my little book and pressure them into getting me back in school, but I had to move carefully.

There was no forgetting that even combined none of those men had the same power as the Saunders family. So that may not be the best route to take. By the time I walked into my room and dropped my bag I was still no closer to a solution.

I knew I had to come up with something fast though, because it was just hitting home that I’d been expelled from high school the year I’m supposed to graduate.

That means that all the hard work I’d put in there, both academically and cultivating friendships that were supposed to be part of my cushion if I should happen to fall, had gone down the drain.

Well maybe not entirely but still. It was easier to rule them from within. Now I’m gonna have to find another way to control them lest they forget what I know and who I am.

But just in case they get any ideas, I’d better refresh their memories. I’ve been collecting information on not just my peers at school, but their parents as well.

Little did they know, that when I visited their homes, whether for a sleepover or a party, I always found a way to sneak away and snoop. I’ve found some of my best information that way.

I’d learned how to do that the first time when we’d just moved here. One of the brats was having a party. Back then they were still treating me like an outcast, but because of good ole stepdad I was invited to a few of their parties.

That was the first time I caught one father screwing someone that wasn’t his wife but the mother of another student in the wine cellar in the basement of yet another family’s home.

That father had paid me a crisp hundred-dollar bill to keep my mouth shut and the seed had been planted. And so began my little enterprise.

I’m not ashamed of my actions, never have been. It’s survival of the fittest. I knew had I not found the information to keep them in check, they never would’ve accepted me, the snobs. They’d made that more than clear.

But they’d accepted her, without question. Because she’s Jace’s woman. Admitting that, even to myself, was a bitter pill. A pill that I refuse to swallow until I’ve given it my all and can do no more to win Jace back.

I left my room in search of someone, anyone. I needed to let off some steam and I know from experience that there’s no faster way than to let one of the cleaning ladies have it, unless I find someone to screw.

There was one little maid in particular who looked like a cornered rat whenever she saw me coming. I could already imagine her screams. Better, I feel better. Maybe I’ll pretend she’s that Sian bitch while I flay the flesh from her back.
