What the hell? I’m sure it wasn’t anything serious. I’d only just come back after leaving the hospital after all and hadn’t had time to get into any trouble.

Then again I’ve done plenty and was never reprimanded before, who would dare? Besides, the principal is just another man, and I know only too well how to handle him. So even if it is something, I know plenty ways to get out of it.

Could it be my mother? Had something happened to her? Where would that leave me? I haven’t had time to work on dear old stepdad though I know I’ve seen that familiar interest in his eyes lately.

I felt that cold clammy hand of fear again before pushing it back forcefully. No matter what, I’ll always take care of myself.

I made my way to the principal’s office still trying to figure out what the idiot could possibly want with me. “Go right in, he’s expecting you.” His secretary didn’t even look at me as she said those words.

I walked into his office without knocking. “What do you want, why have you called me here?” He indicated the chair in front of his desk but I wasn’t planning to be here that long so I ignored it.

If he hadn’t called me for one of his five minute drool fucks there was no reason for me to be in his presence for more than a few seconds at best. He seemed nervous as hell as he played with the papers on his desk.

Don’t tell me this fool’s wife had found out about our little arrangement. That was so in the past I’d all but forgotten about it. I’m not too worried either way. We all know how that shit ends if that should be the case.

I’m just the poor little girl who was taken advantage of by the mean old man in authority. I know that act well. I started to smile, feeling a little bit like myself after the morning I’ve had. Nothing gives me more of a buzz than bringing one of these uppity snobs to heel.

“As of today you’re no longer welcomed on school property.” I wasn’t quite sure what he said at first, it sounded like…couldn’t be. I almost snickered but something about the way he refused to look at me, and the constipated look on his face told me that I’d heard right.

He finally looked up and saw the look of stupefaction on my face. “I’m sorry this was not my call, my hands are tied. Believe me I did all I could to avoid this happening…” He was doing his best to cover his ass.

I think I blanked out for a minute because I could no longer hear the tone of his voice, I just saw the moving of his lips as he carried on talking.

“…But you have to leave….now. I’m sorry….” I tuned back in to hear that last part, but before that there was something else, something…

“Excuse me, what did you just say?” The world literally spun. I felt the ground shift beneath my feet. I couldn’t have heard him correctly. Did he say that I was being thrown off school property like a common little nobody?

“Here is a copy of the contract your parents signed when you were admitted to the school.” I was too numb to even realize what I was doing when I held out my hand for the sheets of paper he passed to me. It was just an automatic reaction.

The sheaf of papers felt heavy in my shaking hand and I lost my sight for a split second, everything was a blur. There was a dull ringing in my ears and my throat felt like I was swallowing boulders.

“If you’ll notice on line fifteen, it states there doesn’t have to be a reason given as long as it’s the decision of one of the board members.” His voice was starting to piss me off.

“Board members, what the hell are you talking about?” I was starting to visibly shake now as I felt the walls closing in on me. How could this be happening?

Was this all because of last night? Because of that… that… thing? It can’t be. This can’t be happening. Especially not after everything I’ve done to get here.

“This school as you were reminded along with everyone else this morning myself included, belong to The Saunders Group.” He went on with some spiel about board members having the final say and no grounds for legal action like I gave a flying fuck about any of that right now.

My mind went quickly to my stepdad or any of the other powerful men in my little black book, but that thought died a quick death. Everyone knew that the Saunders family had more power than everyone else in this town combined.
