She swallowed, hating that she agreed. “Though he could be stronger than we think. He has survived this far where two haven’t.”

It was too bad Bulwark had lived through the tunnels collapsing. It was a terrible thing to think, ugly and sharp, but she couldn’t help it. The pack would have been safer without him in the running, without his shadow hanging over all of them.

“If it comes down to it,” she asked quietly, “could you really kill your brother?”

“I don’t want to kill Bulwark,” Caidrik said. “Especially because it would cause our mother pain.” His jaw tightened before he went on. “But to save the pack, to save you, I would.”

She tilted her head all the way back to stare at him. “Why?”

He studied her for a moment, his gaze running over her face like he was committing it to memory, and then he kissed her. The kiss stole the question right out of her mouth. Heat erupted through her from head to toe, finally complete, even her toes tingling as if they had just woken up. The wolf could kiss.

He went deeper, his hands sweeping from her back down over the curve of her ass to her thigh, sure and unapologetic. Her breath caught, her thoughts scattering.

He leaned back. “You good?”

How sweet that he’d asked, considering she’d just shoved her tongue in his mouth. “We shouldn’t,” she mumbled, not meaning a word of it. “It’s against the rules.”

His smile this time was wicked. “Fuck the rules.” He kissed her again, rolling them so she was on her back. His weight settled over her, solid and inescapable, the mattress dipping beneath them.

Nadia felt it everywhere. His heat. His strength. The way he fit against her like the protector he’d proven himself to be. Her breath caught, not from fear, but from the sudden realization that she was very aware of every point of contact between them.

Caidrik’s mouth claimed hers again, deeper this time, showing no hesitation. The kiss was demanding, all heat and intent, and she melted into it with a soft sound she didn’t bother to hide. His hand slid beneath her, fingers spreading over her back, holding her like he’d decided she wasn’t going anywhere.

Her body answered immediately. Her legs shifted beneath him, instinctive, opening just enough to draw him closer. She could feel how hard he was against her, and that knowledge sent a sharp pulse through her that had her entire body arching.

“Still cold?” he murmured against her mouth.

She laughed breathlessly. “No.”

“Good.” His mouth trailed down, slow and deliberate, along her jaw, her throat. Her head tipped back, giving him access easily, wanting this. Wanting him. His teeth grazed her skin, not enough to hurt, just enough to promise that he could. Her hands slid up his arms, over muscle and heat, her fingers digging in as if she needed the reminder that he was real.

He caressed over her hip and down her thigh, then back up, leaving fire in its wake. She gasped when he pressed closer, when there was no space left at all, when every line of his body told her exactly what he wanted.

“We really shouldn’t,” she said, even as her hands tightened on him, even as her body betrayed her completely.

His mouth hovered near her ear. “Tell me to stop,” he said quietly.

She didn’t. She couldn’t. Her pulse thundered. Her skin felt too tight with sensation, and her thoughts dissolved into raw need.

He kissed her even deeper, the intent in him stealing her thoughts. He moved down her body, kissing her breasts, and taking his time.

For a deadly wolf with unreal speed, apparently he liked to go slow. Or maybe he was just torturing her.

He lightly bit the bottoms of both of her breasts, leaving his mark.

Gasping, she arched against him, wanting more. He chuckled against her skin and licked his way down her, reaching her hipbones, which he also marked. She’d wear those slight bruises for weeks.

Then he settled his head between her thighs, and his too-hot mouth found her clit.

She nearly came off the bed. Her hands clutched into his thick hair. “Caidrik,” she breathed. This was intimate. Very. Life was too confusing right now. She needed to think.

Then he licked her. His tongue was rough, like a wolf’s, and liquid fire rushed through her veins.

She wanted to be part of his life. Needed to feel important to him. He’d been watching over her for the last couple of months, and she’d come to rely on him. Her protector. But she wanted what was best for the pack, and it might not be her. It definitely was him. She should stop this now.

Then he slowly, tortuously, slid one finger inside her, licking her the entire time.

She stopped thinking.

The wolf knew what he was doing.

He drove her up fast, held her on the precipice, and let her fall. The orgasm rushed through her with a desperate edge, making her come down and need more. A lot more.
