Dinosaurs are clearly now completely extinct in any headspace he has available. All he sees is beauty.

Good thing he’s all beast because, my date, my girl, not his.

I mean not mine.

Kind of mine.

For the weekend.

Damn it.

Dustin clears his throat and then bows like she’s royalty. “You look perfect, Scarlett, wow who knew the girl who puked would clean up so…” Her eyebrows arch. “Well?”

“He was so close too.” Scarlett looks at me.

I nod. “I was rooting for him that time, I swear it on my nana’s grave.”

“I thought she was alive.”

“I mean she could be dead.”

“NANA DIED?” Dustin exclaims.

I take a deep breath. “Let’s just go inside, have some fun and try not to burn the building down.”

Dustin gives me a weary look and narrows his eyes at Scarlett. “Limited amounts of alcohol, one glass of champagne to get you over the dog.”

“Or in her case,” I say, offering my arm, “shell of a turtle.”

“Ha-ha.” She takes my arm. “Been keeping that locked up inside until the right moment?”

“Nearly killed me,” I admit. “But you have to say the timing was impeccable.”

“I, for one, was moved.” She grins, then stops walking with me. “Wait, hold on,” She reaches up and tousles my hair a bit, her nails raking my skull like the orgasm of my dreams.

God, it may actually be better than sex.

Wait, what? I clear my throat. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing.” She lifts a shoulder. Why is it so slim and creamy and what? Creamy? Just… beautiful, and shit. I’m in over my head. “Just, hanging out with my fiancé.”

“Yup.” Dustin agrees like he’s gaining points from looking so positive and happy. Fucker. “So in love, so in love it hurts, should we make our way to the rehearsal dinner? Yup, good call, always a good call, shrimp.”

I immediately panic and stop walking. “Addison’s allergic, there will be no shrimp.”

Dustin laughs then whispers under his breath. “I have Benadryl, just focus on getting through the night and what happened with the song?”

“Soft kitty warm kitty little ball of fur.” Scarlett starts singing under her breath.

I grab her by the elbow and look across the room full of people. “Not now, and I still haven’t rehearsed. And I refuse to use all the F words.”

She frowns up at me. “The F words?”

“Your sister only wanted words that started with F, they make no sense, and I refuse to die on that hill with my career on the line.”

Scarlett tugs her lower lip. “What if you make it like… funny?”

“Huh?” I’m ready to pull my hair out. “How can I make that funny?”

“Just do like a parody? A comedy sketch with the song and call it good, like if she said fetish, you’d go into another word that rhymes, make fun of her in a good-humored way even though I want to strangle her, and then make it super short?”

I pause. “You think that would work?”

She nods. “Yup, and it’s clever, it might go viral.”

“Cool.” I grab her hand. “Then you’re doing it with me, fiancé.”

“WHAT?”

“Bye, Dustin!” I wave and drag Scarlett in the opposite direction. “We have to make this epic and you’re going to help. You ready?”

“No. Not in any way, no.” Scarlett shakes her head then nods, “But also, I want to bring her down, so… yes?”

I hold up my hand for a high five. “See? I knew we could get along.”

“Over a song for my sister?”

I wink. “I mean, I did sing for you.”

“But that was romantic!” she points out.

I lean in and press a small kiss to her neck. “Yeah, it was. You ready?”

Her mouth opens and closes. “You’re dangerous to my health.”

I point at myself. “Sweetheart. I’m a rockstar.”

She slaps me on the ass and whispers, “That’s the problem.”

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Scarlett

I’m completely sober and still ready to puke. My neck burns where he kissed me, and I can still feel the heat from his mouth right where my pulse is skyrocketing.

I’m still thinking about watching him and it’s definitely not cooling me off in any way. I’m attached to him as much as I physically can be. Basically, I plan on being a growth on his person until this nightmare is over just so I don’t get cornered by my sister, who is currently power walking toward me, golden hair pulled back in a loose ponytail and of course a white silk dress with a plunging neckline and—wait a second.

I stumble and look down.

I’m literally wearing the same dress in a different color.

What the hell?

I feel my cheeks heat, my jaw clenches.

Killian speaks through his teeth. “Question, does she have spies or is this more of a normal, she set up random ring cameras in your house so that she can find out what you’re wearing and try to one up you?”

I shake my head, and tears form in the most embarrassing way as my dad waves at me from his spot next to my mom. They’re doting on her, smiling at her as if this is the best weekend of their lives. Not realizing that she’s the devil. “Why does she always do this?”
