For a moment, we just stare at each other.

“I wasn’t hiding you from the press. I wanted to protect you from them,” I explain my actions of earlier. “Now…” I shove a hand into my hair, regretting that I was so damn impulsive, “Now your face is going to be plastered all over the damn country.” I turn away from her, my mind racing as I search for a way to fix the mess I’ve made. “Fuck.”

“I’m sorry. I misunderstood,” I hear her say. She places a hand on my shoulder and moves in front of me. She makes the same adorable face from this morning, and it melts my heart.

“That’s unfair,” I growl. “You don’t get to look at me like that right now.”

She takes a step closer and somehow manages to look even cuter. “I’m sorry, Falcon.”

“I’m never going to win an argument between us,” I groan.

“Let me make it up to you. We can do anything you want.” She smiles and begins to nod enthusiastically. “Anyyyyything.”

“And you can’t say no?” I ask, really liking the idea.

“Of course, there are certain things we can’t do, like murdering someone, eating strawberries because I’m allergic.” She pauses to think.

“There’s only one thing I want to do,” I say.

“Oh? What?”

I take a step closer and bring my hands to her face, gently framing it. Looking into her eyes the anticipation we’ve felt the previous times come rushing back. I was scared it would be gone after the impulsive kiss at the front gate.

Layla takes hold of my forearms, her breaths coming faster.

Slowly, I lean down until our breaths are mingling. I never take my eyes from hers, and the current between us becomes charged, causing goosebumps to spread over my body. My heartbeat speeds up when her pupils dilate, and then I press my mouth to hers.

I keep still as my eyes flutter closed, savoring this moment which should’ve been our first. Tilting my head, I breathe in her scent. I feel her skin growing warmer under my palms, and then I can’t wait any longer. I press my body close to hers, as close as I can possibly get with the clothes between us. Our mouths begin to move, soft and curious until my teeth scrape over her bottom lip. Soft turns to sucking and biting.

Our tongues explore each other, the heat of her mouth driving me to the edge of losing all control. A soft moan from her is all it takes to push me over the edge.

Using my body, I push her backward until she bumps against the wall. For a moment our mouths separate, and gasping for air, I stare down at her. Seeing her as breathless and turned on as me, has me reaching down and grabbing her thighs, lifting her up against me. Her legs wrap around me, and when my mouth latches onto hers again, I wish there were no clothes between us so I could bury myself deep inside of her.

I get so lost in Layla I forget to breathe. But damn, if I have to die from lack of air, it would be a perfect way to go.

Her fingers tug my hair, and she sucks at my bottom lip, drawing a groan from me.

This is what I’ve been searching for. This is the one thing I could never buy.

A moment.

A moment where I am her whole universe. She’s as focused on me as I am on her, with nothing else mattering right now.

Just us kissing.

Chapter 15

Layla

My hands rub over his shoulders, needing to feel more of him. The kiss grows urgent, our mouths pressing so hard against each other it’s bordering on being painful.

But it’s a sweet pain which sparks an ache in my abdomen. Something similar to a million butterflies taking flight.

There’s a knock on my door. “Layla, we’re going to be late for class.”

Falcon frees my mouth but doesn’t move back. His eyes burn down on me, and I have to clear my throat before I breathlessly call out, “Give me five minutes.”

Falcon’s breathing is as ragged as mine, his eyes twin infernos. As the heat of the moment fades, emotions crash over me.

If someone had to ask me when was the moment I fell in love with Falcon Reyes, I’d tell them I fell for him when he kissed me as if he was poisoned, and I was his only cure.

“You have to pull away. I’m not strong enough to let you go,” he whispers, and it feels as if the words carry a deeper meaning.

I lower my legs and squeeze myself out from the space between Falcon and the wall. With a trembling hand, I try to straighten my hair before I open the door. Blocking the inside of my suite with my body, I say, “I’m going to have to miss today’s class. Can you take notes for me?”
