I wish he was looking at me like that. With complete attention, as if nothing could make him waver.

“Really?” I whisper.

“Yes,” Felix says firmly, looking steadily at me. “You’ve got a good eye for framing. I can tell you’ve used some basic editing on here, and there’s only so much you can do with that. But your intent is there. I can see potential, Faye.”

A shiver dances over my body. Goosebumps even rise on my skin, which is just silly, but I can’t help myself. It’s like I’ve been waiting years for this.

“Thank you,” I say, mouth dry.

“I told you,” Lola says over the kitchen partition, her chopping done. “Dad, have you given her the good news yet?”

Felix shakes his head.

“What news?” I ask.

“I want you to work with me,” Felix says, looking at me with that difficult-to-read expression again.

It could be lust, rage, or something in between.

Lust…

Yeah, right.

I focused on what he said, wishing my thoughts would stop leaping around.

“Work with you?” I mutter.

“I told him you were looking for work,” Lola says. “And I thought, well, this is better than getting some random job that has nothing to do with your passion. This way, you can earn money and learn a thing or two.”

Gratitude flurries through me, but it’s followed by darkness a moment later.

Clearly, Lola’s asked her dad for this favor. But judging from the grimness of his expression, it’s not one he’s eager to fulfill.

“I wouldn’t want to impose,” I say. “But thank you.”

“Faye.” Lola walks into the living room, her hands on her hips, staring at me. “What are you talking about? This is a great opportunity.”

I glance at Felix. He’s looking at me with those hard pale eyes, so difficult to read, downright impossible. I could stare into his eyes for hours and still have no clue what he’s thinking.

Or maybe he’s too clouded by my lust, my want.

Every time I look at him, I’m too busy thinking about all the things I’d do, he’d do, to accurately assess what’s going on.

“Wouldn’t I just get in the way?” I ask.

Felix shakes his head. “I could do with the help.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

I want to question him, but I’m aware of how Lola’s looking at me. It’s like she regrets making the suggestion to her dad as if my reaction hurts her.

“Then thank you,” I say, smiling as broadly as I can. “That would be wonderful. I promise I’ll be as useful as I can.”

I make a mental note to speak to him when I get a chance, to discuss the job properly…and to let him know he doesn’t owe me anything just because I’m his daughter’s best friend.

And then he’ll grab me, kiss me, and slide that strong hand down my body between my legs and…

“You’re welcome,” he says huskily.

CHAPTER FOUR

Felix

I sit across the table from Faye, focusing on my curry and nothing else.

That’s a lie.

I try to focus on nothing else, but I can’t stop thinking about the spark that flared between us when she handed me her phone.

It sent a shockwave right to my manhood, and I had to focus hard – extremely goddamn hard – not to grab her wrist and drag her into my lap.

It was like every primal piece of me was howling, is still howling, demanding that I take her someplace private.

When Lola excuses herself and goes to the bathroom, I’m aware that I’m alone with Faye.

The thoughts return about claiming her and massaging her curvy body.

Holding her as she falls asleep, my face buried in her hair, inhaling her scent as I listen to her breathing get steadier.

What the fuck is happening to me?

No woman has ever made me feel like this.

“Mr. Fallon?” she says softly.

I look up to find her watching me, her head tilted slightly. She’s got a flush to her cheeks, just a little bit, and I find myself thinking about what lens and settings I’d have to use to draw it out. And then I wonder if the rest of her skin would go that teasing shade of red with the proper attention.

An image hits me. Her round, creamy ass, my hand spanking it lightly, a blossom of red as her thighs glisten with her horny wetness.

“Yes,” I say, keeping my expression as neutral as I can.

So she can’t see the hunger eating me up.

“I wanted to say you don’t have to hire me,” she lowers her voice even more. “Lola’s the best friend a person could wish for. I know she probably asked you to help me out. But it’s okay. We can think of an excuse.”

I should tell her yes, we’ll think of one. I should tell her anything that doesn’t end with us working side by side, in close proximity, where Lola won’t be there to interrupt us.

Perhaps I should simply tell her about all these desires hammering into me.
