I loved the way he clung to me, like there was any chance in hell of me trying to escape. His mouth was surprisingly soft and supple given all the angular planes of his features, and I couldn’t get enough.

Except we were standing in the middle of a bookstore, lights still on, glass window and door doing us no favors.

“Tell me you have an office with a door that locks.” Breathing hard, I rested my forehead against his, suppressing the urge to press him against that big, wide counter and do every single thing I’d been fantasizing about for a week.

“It’s small—”

I cut him off with a growl. “I don’t care if it’s a rabbit hutch, as long as you show it to me now.”

“If you insist.” Harrison’s tentative smile as he grabbed my hand made me swallow hard. He was already hell on my resolve to keep this physical, and we hadn’t even made it to the physical yet.

He led me through the stacks and down a narrow hallway. I barely noted doors that led to restrooms and a stack of boxes we had to step around. We ended up in a small, windowless office. There was hardly enough space for the desk and a couple of chairs, but it was more than sufficient for my purposes.

“Now, where were we?” I advanced on him, trying to pick between several delicious options. Feeling playful, I plucked his glasses carefully off his nose and set them on the desk.

Honk. A horn sounded from the back alley. We must have left the loading door open. The loading… Oh hell.

“I’m still double-parked in the alley,” I groaned. “The universe clearly hates us and doesn’t want us getting lucky.”

“Oh, I’m still feeling lucky. But let’s handle this before you get a ticket.” Glasses back on, Harrison was already striding out of the office toward the delivery bay. Funny how he could be so take-charge in certain situations and so pliant in my arms. It was a devastating combo.

“I guess I better move to one of the garages.” I slid him a speculative glance. “If I’m staying awhile…”

“You are.” Harrison nodded like his will was enough to make it so. And I really hoped it was. I hadn’t had nearly enough of him.

Chapter Ten

Harrison

As much as I hated the interruption of Finn dealing with his parking situation, I was also a little grateful for the chance to cool off. Sex in my office? Had I really been about to do that? A single look back at Finn, at his kiss-swollen lips and flexing arms, was enough to remind me that yes, yes, I had been about to do that. Happily. It wasn’t like me, but then nothing about this entire thing was my usual style.

“Do you want me to ride with you while you find a parking spot?” I asked at the loading bay door before Finn could climb into his truck. I wasn’t entirely sure why I offered, other than a part of me was convinced this was all a fevered dream, and I didn’t want him disappearing before I got another shot at those lips.

Finn gave a sly, slow grin as he stared me up and down. “You looking for a public thrill, making out in a parking garage, or are you offering to keep me company?”

“Company.” My answer was too fast, and he laughed.

“Liar.” He leaned in to give me a fast, hard kiss that had me breathless all over again. “Come along. Maybe we can pick up food on the way to your place.”

“My place is above the store.” I pointed upward as I followed him to the truck. I liked his confidence that we were headed to my home.

He waggled his eyebrows at me. “Closer is better.”

“I like the food idea, though.” More time with Finn was even more appealing than some fast hookup where I’d be alone and hungry in thirty minutes. I wanted more kisses, sure, but I also genuinely liked being around the guy. “I’m always forgetting to eat during the day. Now that we work together, my mother nags me into a sandwich when she can, but lunch was a long time ago.”

“Same here. Busy day and I had…motivation to get done early.” Finn’s eyes sparkled as he swung up into the driver’s seat. His truck was older and very utilitarian with plenty of dents and fading paint, but the interior was clean. I buckled up, even though we were likely only going a block or two.

“You’re saying I was your reward?” That thought made a warm buzz spread across my chest.

“Yeah, I’m surprised too, trust me.” Finn laughed, but there was something else there too, an edge to his voice that I wasn’t sure I liked.

“Oh? You don’t make a habit of seducing intriguing newcomers?”

“Not hardly.” He snorted, but I wasn’t sure I saw the joke. “Learned my lesson there.”
