“It’s in the back.” She motions with her hand to show me.

“Thanks.” I give her a warm smile before disappearing into the back of the shop.

Let the games begin.

Chapter Thirty-Three

RONAN

It’s impressive to see my girl do her thing. She’s different, special really. I knew that from the second I laid eyes on her. Eyes that stared at me differently than everyone else. Ellie was never scared of me.

Part of me believes that she’d let herself walk right into my traps. If Ellie wants to lie low, she knows how. What she doesn’t get is that she’d set traps for me too, even if I didn’t realize it, leading me straight to her.

"I told you that one day she would be better than me," Z says, never taking his attention off the computer he has in his lap.

All Ellie needed to find that greatness was to be free to do it. A freedom that I’ll make sure she always has.

“We all agree he should die, correct?” War asks. “Especially since he made me bring my pregnant wife out.”

“That’s why he should die?” Z chuckles. I don’t need a reason to kill him. Though I have a million of them right now. Z himself gave me half a dozen. This Cyberius is a fucking menace. He should be killed for being annoying all on his own. “Bruce would like him alive.”

“Does being in a coma count as alive?” I ask. Coma with a few missing teeth and a couple of broken bones. I could get my little fox one of his eyes.

“Think he wants information from him.” Z shakes his head.

“Ask what questions he needs answers to. I’m sure I could get them quicker than him.” And I’ll do that shit for free. No need to pay for my services.

I lean forward, wanting to see what Z is doing on his computer. I know it has to be something with the streetlights because he hasn’t hit a single one. Nick sits quietly, hoping we forget about him.

“Marks is online,” Z mutters.

War glances over at me. I don’t say shit. There isn’t anything to be said. Am I on edge? Sure. We can plot and plan, but shit can always go sideways. “He knows she’s at the dress shop.”

The distraction we need. “Four blocks out,” Rocco says from the driver’s seat. I pull out the handcuffs I have in my back pocket, putting them on one of Nick’s wrists. His eyes widen, but he wisely keeps his mouth shut as I cuff the other side to the door. He’s lucky to still have his fucking arm after what he did to my little fox.

“So many fucking cameras.” Z’s clicking is loud in the SUV. I want out of the vehicle. “Shit, he’s scanning them, or he was.”

Rocco pulls up to the back of the building. “It doesn’t matter,” I say, throwing open the back door and grabbing the crowbar in the process. “He’s going to know I’m coming either way.”

I step out of the SUV, heading for the giant green box outside the back door of the building. It appears to be electrical. I jam the crowbar into the edge and yank as hard as I can, popping it off to reveal the generator inside.

Ellie said there would be no way he’d be in a building without one. I raise the crowbar, bringing it down as hard as I can. War pulls out his gun, shooting the gas tank on it, the silencer muffling the sound. The ground is splattered with gasoline.

“The power is—” Z is cut off when the power for not only the building but also the ones around us dies out. “That was perfect timing.” Z smirks.

It wasn’t. I have no doubt my girl is watching. At least until I disappear inside this building. Z slides the card into the back door to get it to unlock. The number spins, trying to decode it. Z shifts on his feet.

"It's a thirteen number code. Shit, this is going to take more than a fucking moment. We should blow the door."

"Wait," I tell him.

"Wait? There is a chance that—" The numbers stop spinning, and the lock clicks over. "Well, shit. That's lucky."

It's not just luck; it's Ellie, and I am incredibly proud of her, especially since she solved the problem on her own. She swears it's because of me, but it's all her. Z pulls the card out that’s connected to a machine. “Marks did something to it.”

That she did. She’s worked all night on that something.

“Move.” I tap him to step aside and enter the building first. I know the layout. Along with doing thermal heating to find the generator, Ellie did a scan of the building to make sure the blueprints had lined up, and they had.

She’d given me the blueprints to go over so that I knew the layout of the building. What we don’t know is who is with Cyberius. There have been three heat signatures in the building. We don’t have a fucking clue who the other two people are.
