I said my goodbyes again, and we headed out.

We were back in David’s car, me in the passenger seat and Ian in the back, when I said, “Holy shit. I didn’t expect that. I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t call you Daddy or tell her we’re fucking…well, if you ever actually fuck me. When are we fucking?”

He swatted my leg playfully. “Be good, kitten.”

“Hey, I’m good. I’m always very, very good.”

Daddy snickered, and Ian scoffed behind me.

“You guys should be so glad I’m around to lighten up the mood. I’m a lot more fun than you both. David is more fun than you, Ian. Sorry. Hey, can we get a coffee on our way up?”

“No,” they both said at the same time.

“I’m feeling very ganged up on.”

“You deserve it,” Ian replied.

“You guys can punish me when we get there if you want.” They both smiled, and knowing I made them do that warmed my heart. “But seriously. I’m sorry about that. As far as she knows, we’re friends. I didn’t think the age thing would bother her.” I probably should have anticipated it, but just because my stepdad was a dick, didn’t mean all older men were.

David drove off. “It’s fine. She wants to protect you, is all.”

Still, David’s age shouldn’t matter. There wasn’t anyone who would take care of me better than he would.

The conversation flowed freely as we made the drive into the mountains. I was grateful Ian had been able to get his shifts covered so we could go. As much as I was looking forward to it, I thought he needed it, and I wanted to be part of something like that for Ian. I wanted David and me to make him happy.

I turned on one of the pop stations and sang at the top of my lungs as we drove. Eventually, Ian joined in, and we laughed and serenaded David, who rolled his eyes and called us silly boys, but I knew he loved it. I could see that he did.

We were almost there when David turned the music down. “Sorry to interrupt the concert, but I wanted to talk to the two of you about a few things before we get there.”

I turned slightly so I was facing him. I glanced back at Ian, who nodded.

“I’d like you both to hand control over to me for the whole time we’re here.” Well, duh. But I figured that part wasn’t as much for me as it was for Ian. “I won’t remind you again, but remember your colors are always there for you to use. Don’t hesitate if you need to, but outside of a yellow or a red, I’d like you to hand the reins to me.”

David glanced at Ian in the rearview mirror, and I turned to look at Ian as well. I was surprised when David pulled into a parking lot. He unlatched his seat belt so he could face Ian more easily. “You’re beautiful when you let go. We saw that this morning. Trust me. Let go for me. Give yourself to us. Let me test you. Jordan and I will build you up again afterward.”

I trembled. Holy hell, that sounded good.

“And if I say no?” Ian asked.

“Then we respect that. We’ll have fun, and we’ll do what you feel comfortable with. I’ll never hold a no against you. All it ever takes is one word to stop things.”

Ian latched his hands in his lap and looked down. Ian and I were nothing alike. Where this was an easy decision for me, it wasn’t for him. We all knew what David was asking of him—for Ian to let us in completely, with no walls between us. I wanted to break them all down for him and let the sunlight in.

“I don’t want to be left again,” Ian admitted, and my heart broke for him. His mom had left him, but mine had too. I knew what he was going through.

“We’re not going anywhere,” David said.

“Never,” I added, which was maybe a little premature, but I believed that. There was already something about the three of us together that settled my soul.

“Yes,” Ian replied.

“Good boy. Your Sir is very proud of you.”

“Thank you, Sir.”

“All right. Let’s get this show on the road. I’m getting old. It’s about time for my nap.” David looked at me with a playful grin.

“You are pretty old, Daddy. Do you think you can handle us both?” There wasn’t a chance in hell I really doubted it.

“I guess we’ll see about that.”

It only took about fifteen more minutes to get to David’s place, a large cabin with a wraparound porch and nothing except trees for as far as the eye could see. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t want to go home.

David parked, and we grabbed our things and got out.
