“Okay,” she whispered, trying not to obviously enjoy the view.

Terry stopped by her side to kiss her lightly after pulling on a polo shirt. Lifting his head away, he rubbed her back lightly as he instructed, “Get dressed and come join me for breakfast.”

After another quick peck, he headed out of the master bedroom, leaving her looking after him. Feeling happy, she chose her favorite outfit and quickly dressed. Taking her toiletries into the bathroom, Kiki daringly chose a side of the sink to arrange her things and nestled her toothbrush into the holder that held his. It surprised her how intimate the view of something so simple felt.

Makeup applied, she practically skipped down the hall to join him. To her delight, Terry wore a Kiss-the-Cook apron as he flipped golden pieces of bread over on a griddle.

“You made me French toast?” she asked.

“I did,” Terry stated before waving the spatula across the lettering over his chest and looking at her expectantly.

Giggling, Kiki bounced up on her toes to press her lips against his. When the fire that always seemed to be brewing between them flared back into life, Terry ripped his lips from hers with a groan.

“Go sit down, Bumblebee, before I burn breakfast.”

Within minutes, he placed a stack of the treats before her and joined her at the table. Terry placed two pieces on her plate with a flourish.

“Are you a syrup or powdered sugar girl?”

“Powdered sugar, please,” she requested.

Terry picked up a stainless steel shaker and scattered the sweetness over the pieces. “Enough?”

Kiki shook her head. She liked it to look like a blizzard on her plate.

Her Daddy just looked at her and let it snow. “Start with that. We can add more if you like.”

“Thank you, Daddy.” Kiki watched him pour a small amount of syrup in a puddle on his plate before dipping a bite into the gold liquid.

“Don’t put too much on there,” she warned.

“I like to taste the food rather than fire up every sweet sensor in my mouth,” he joked.

“It’s why I’m so sweet!”

“Exactly. Eat a few more bites.”

Terry chatted amiably about a variety of things. He asked her fun questions and was actually interested in her answers. She loved that he paid attention to her. She didn’t even see his phone anywhere. It felt incredible to have all his attention on her.

“Go brush your teeth. It’s almost time for you to leave,” he instructed after they’d finished.

Turning to look at the clock behind her, Kiki was amazed to see how much time had passed. “Oh!”

She popped up from her chair and hesitated. She should help with the dishes.

As if reading her mind, her Daddy reassured her, “Daddy does dishes, Bumblebee. If you’d like to help, I would love for you to carry your plate to the sink.”

Eager to please him, Kiki followed his instructions and then ran to the bathroom to finish her preparations to leave. After using the bathroom and brushing her teeth, Kiki returned to the kitchen to kiss her Daddy goodbye.

He met her with a tumbler with a lid snapped into place. Pulling her to him, Terry kissed her deeply. “Drink some water today. I want you to be healthy.”

“Yes, Daddy.”

He walked her to the car and helped her inside. When he leaned in to fasten her seatbelt, Kiki leaned back in surprise.

“I can do it,” she assured him.

“I know you can. Thank you for letting me take care of you.” Terry stole a quick kiss before straightening and moving back to close her car door with a solid thunk. “Have a good day, Bumblebee. Bring home a good story for me.”

“See you about seven, Daddy. It’s my late night.”

“We’ll put all your dates on my calendar tonight,” he told her, stepping back so she could back out.

I don’t want to leave. Forcing herself, Kiki put the car in reverse and backed out of the driveway. She watched in the rearview mirror, and her Daddy never left until she was out of sight. Kiki gave herself a serious talk about responsibilities, but all she wanted to do was go back to his house and color or put a puzzle together… Or just hang out with the most fascinating man she’d ever met. It was going to be a long day.

“Daddy!” Kiki called, rushing through the door. She didn’t wait to knock.

“Bumblebee!” Terry scooped her up and whirled Kiki around in a circle. “Spike and I have been waiting for you to get home.”

“It was a long day. Thanks for texting me a couple of times. I liked knowing you were thinking about me,” she shared.

“That’s exactly why I sent them. Now, let’s get you changed for dinner and some cuddles before bed.”

Kiki followed him down the hallway to the nursery and stopped to stare at the room. It was magical. He’d hung clustered strings of fairy lights around the top of the walls. It was enchanting.
