“I didn’t decide to stay because you saved Tessa,” I said finally, the words coming out softer than I’d meant them to.
Griffin’s hand stroked down my back, warm and sure. “I know, baby.”
“Thank you.”
“You never have to thank me. I’m yours. That means I do everything I have to, to make you happy.”
“Don’t you mean that I’m yours?”
He shrugged. “I hope you’re mine. I Goddamn sure know I’m yours. To me, that’s all that matters. You have me, Veda. Ain’t no one else in the world for me other than you.”
And Griffin lay awake beneath me, his body warm against mine. I’d nearly dozed off when I realized I hadn’t told him the one thing I needed to tell him most.
“Griffin?”
“Yeah, baby?”
“I love you.”
There was a beat of silence and Griffin’s arms tightened around me almost to the point of pain. “Goddamn it, baby.” His voice was a breathy whisper. “I fuckin’ love you, too. With all my Goddamn heart.”
More silence.
“Griffin?”
He cleared his throat. “Yeah, baby.” He cleared his throat again.
“Did I break you?”
A laugh exploded from him and he threw one arm over his eyes, continuing to laugh.
“I’m going to take that as a yes,” I muttered. I still grinned against his chest.
“Yeah, baby. You broke me. Good and proper.”
“You don’t sound like you’re bothered by that fact.”
“Ain’t. I’ll own that shit like a badge of honor.”
Griffin’s laughter subsided, leaving a warm, contented silence between us. He kept me wrapped in his embrace, his touch gentle yet possessive. “You didn’t just break me, Veda. You’re putting me back together in ways I never knew I needed,” he admitted, sincerity pouring from his words.
With a surge of emotion, I leaned up to place a tender kiss on his lips. I knew that our love was something fierce and unbreakable, a bond that would carry us through any storm. As we lay entwined in each other’s arms, the room filled with a sense of peace and fulfillment, knowing we’d found something rare and precious in each other. And as sleep finally claimed us both, I held onto Griffin tightly. I knew, no matter what challenges lay ahead, we would face them together, unbroken and stronger than ever.
