He’s standing in front of the stove in boxers only humming a tune I don’t know. Half the meal is already prepared and laid out on serving plates. Bacon and toast with a few fried tomatoes, and I’m guessing he’s working on the eggs.

“Morning, handsome,” I say. “I hope you’re not cooking bacon without a shirt on.”

“Oh shit,” he jumps at my sudden arrival. He chuckles when he settles down and walks over to kiss me good morning. “I hope I didn’t wake you. I wanted to leave you a little surprise.”

I hold him close to me for a lot longer than I should with the food sizzling away. But I can’t seem to let go, no matter how hard I try.

“You didn’t wake me, no. The smells did, though. They’re amazing.”

“And they’re about to burn,” he pecks my crown and heads back to his task.

“How long have you been up?” I ask. It’s only six o’clock now, and our adventures last night stretched well past midnight. I can’t be the only one feeling the effects …

“Didn’t sleep,” he says, looking at me over his shoulder. “Might sound corny, but I couldn’t take my eyes off you.”

“Oh. My. God.” I should just get used to having red cheeks around Rex. After all they haven’t stopped burning around him for at least a week. “It doesn’t sound corny at all. If anything, it’s super cute.”

“Ah, well, that’s the other thing I didn’t want it to be,” he winks and turns back to pull the pan of the heat. “How am I supposed to be manly and intimidating if I’m cute, let alone super cute?”

“Well, that’s easy to answer,” I walk over to him and hug him from behind. “Be those things out there, and be my big, fluffy teddy bear in here.”

“Can’t fault that logic,” he says, preparing a plate of food. “I might be biased, but it seems you’d like me to keep some of my manliness for in here, too, no?” He smirks. I feel my cheeks heating again.“But, big, fluffy teddy bear it is, you know I’d do anything for you.”

“Even if it means taking me shopping?” I raise a brow, even if he can’t see it.

“If it ends the way it did last time, I’ll take you to the mall right now.” He sounds too excited by the idea for it to be a joke.

He finishes dishing up and I let go of him. He sets it out on a placemat he laid out with a knife, fork and a few assorted sauces and jams.

“Here we go,” he says. “A breakfast fit for a princess.”

“There’s only one plate,” I look as confused as I sound.

“Yes, sadly, I have to run. My late night wasn’t from finishing everything I had to do, just pushing it aside because you are more important.” Rex smiles at me and leans against the counter. “But if you’ll join me, we can do dinner tonight? See where it takes us.”

“It’s a date,” I say, grabbing a strip of bacon off the plate and taking a bite. “My classes finish at four, so … ”

“I’ll be here at six.” And with a quick peck on the cheek, Rex heads back upstairs to change for his day at work.

After breakfast, I have a shower, get ready for my day and laze around the living room until it’s time to leave. My classes blast by in a blur, though I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising when I have something to look forward to.

Before I know it, Lucy and I are already making our way back to her car. We take the same route we always take, though this time there isn’t any complaining about me ditching her. Instead, she’s bombarding me with a million questions about my day out with Rex and the night that followed.

She knew I was a virgin. One of the many reasons she had to try and find me a man.

“You have to tell me everything,” Lucy says. She’s holding onto my arms by the elbows, walking backwards so she can see my face while we talk. “What was he like? Was he good to you? Did he last long or was he a one pump chump?” She gyrates her hips, mimicking a thrust. Both of us chuckle at the silliness.

“Luce, please.” It was hard enough to admit it, but where I thought that would put an end to her obsession with my love life, telling her we had sex fanned the flames harder. “I’ll tell you all about it, but not right now.”

“Sex isn’t something to be embarrassed about,” Lucy says, shaking her head. “Why are you going all red in the face?”

“Because.” There’s no more to it. It seems being with him isn’t the only thing that can make me blush. The mere thought of Rex is enough to fill my belly with butterflies and leave my head spinning.
