Once we reach the elevator, I stab the button and pray it comes quickly. I can still hear Carina and Ford exchanging pointed barbs from down the hall.

“Those two need to have sex and get it over with already,” Wolf mutters.

“What?” My head whips toward him as my brows shoot up. There’s no way I heard him correctly.

He raises a dark brow as if daring me to argue. “They need to sleep together so they can get each other out of their systems. Their constant bickering was cute at first. Now, it’s just annoying.”

Carina and Ford?

No way. He’s totally misreading the situation.

I shake my head in disagreement. “That’s not what’s going on.”

Wolf smirks. “Seriously? With them, all this arguing and taking shots at each other is foreplay. Enough already. Let’s get to the main event so we can all move on with our lives.”

My mouth falls open as I flick a glance at Madden to get his take on the matter.

He jerks his shoulders before nodding. “I have to agree with Westerville on this one, little McKinnon.”

I’m so shocked that I don’t even take offense to the little McKinnon comment.

It’s with fresh eyes that I turn my attention back to Carina and Ford. He’s standing entirely too close, invading her personal space, and her face is all flushed. Only now do I realize how much sexual energy is buzzing in the air between them.

Well, I’ll be damned.

Maybe Wolf and Madden are right.

Maybe them getting it on is exactly what needs to happen.

Then peace can once again reign in the kingdom.

CHAPTER 6

RYDER

By the time I shower, change, and get the hell out of the athletic center, my mood has improved.

Somewhat.

Maybe Ford is right, and I just need to chill out for the night. Have a couple of drinks and find a girl to take my mind off the situation. Everything inside me loosens as I tip the beer bottle to my lips and take a long swig.

As I do, my gaze wanders over the packed room before getting snagged by Larsa Middleton. The moment our eyes lock, she lifts her hand in a wave. As soon as I reciprocate the greeting with a chin lift, she breaks away from the group of girls she’s standing with before cutting a direct path to me.

Larsa isn’t a girl who likes to play games. And that I can appreciate.

Her wide green eyes remain locked on mine as she weaves through the sea of students who are crammed into the first floor of the house.

“Hey, Ryder,” she purrs.

“Hey, yourself. How’s it going?” I take another drink.

The blonde presses her palms against my chest before slowly stroking them upward. “Much better now that I’ve found you.”

I’ve known Larsa since freshman year. Every once in a while, we have a few classes together. From what I’ve seen, she’s a smart little cookie with a weakness for hockey players. Preferably the ones who get lots of ice time.

Know what I like best about Larsa?

She understands that a couple hours spent rolling around between the sheets is exactly that. There’s nothing worse than screwing someone and the moment you pull out, they want to know when they can see you again. Extracting yourself from those situations can be tricky. Sometimes you get an object chucked at your head. Other times, there’s water works.

So…yeah.

Thank god for girls like Larsa who get it.

Maybe I didn’t realize it before, but she’s exactly what I need. A little TLC from the Wildcats’ number one fan. This girl is like the energizer bunny in the sack. She’ll strangle the life out of my cock until there’s nothing more to give.

She presses close enough for me to feel the pebbled tips of her breasts through my T-shirt.

“Bro, have you seen McKinnon’s little sis?”

I rip my attention away from the girl smiling slyly up at me with eyes that hold all sorts of wicked promises to stare at one of the freshmen players whose sole job at this party is to man the door.

“Huh?”

“Mav’s little sis,” he repeats. “She’s here and damn, that girl is a total smoke show.”

“Mav doesn’t have a little sister.” I pause for a second or two. “Are you talking about Juliette?” Just wrapping my lips around her name is enough to have me crashing back to earth with a painful thump. All those good vibes rushing through me dissipate as if they’d been a figment of my imagination.

His eyes slice to Larsa, where they stay ensnared. When he doesn’t respond to the question, I snap my fingers in front of his face to reclaim his distracted attention.

“Um, yeah,” he mumbles, still entranced by the blonde stroking her hands over me. “Juliette. She’s a real hottie.”

There’s no damn way I heard him correctly. The guy is obviously shitfaced. These freshmen should only be allowed a couple drinks or shots before getting cut off for the night. They have no idea how to party responsibly.
