And she loved that.
“All right.” She let out a deep breath, trying to ease the knot of tension in her stomach.
“And you’re going to sleep in the bed.”
“But I’m smaller,” she protested. “I’ll fit on the sofa better.”
“It folds out, baby,” he replied. “I’ll be fine on it. I want you to use the bathroom and get ready for bed. Off you go.” He turned her toward the bathroom and lightly patted her back.
Immy’s heart was racing as she grabbed her toiletries and pajamas and headed into the bathroom.
She needed to calm down.
It wasn’t the first time she’d slept with Jenner close by and it wouldn’t be the last.
She hoped.
After getting ready, she headed back into the bedroom. Jenner was doing something at the bed and surprise filled her as she saw he’d arranged the pillows into a U-shape.
“There you are. Your nest is all ready for you.”
Snowy was already in the nest, waiting for her.
“Thank you.”
“Get into bed. I’ll tuck you in.”
She closed her eyes for a moment as he disappeared into the bathroom. Jenner always took such good care of her. She opened her eyes and got into bed, patting at the pillows and setting them in the right place so she felt secure.
Then Jenner appeared and drew the covers up over her.
And that feeling of being safe increased.
There was nothing Immy loved more than being taken care of. Or being able to take care of the people she loved.
“Are you sure you’ll be all right on the couch? I really don’t mind sleeping on it.”
“Twinkles, there’s no way in hell you’re sleeping on the couch. Not only is it a couch but it’s close to the door. You’re going to be in here, safe, with me between you and the door.”
It was old-fashioned.
It was also incredibly sweet.
So she decided to give up arguing about who slept where.
“I don’t know if I can sleep, though,” she told him.
He brushed her hair off her face. It was a wild mess once more. She should have braided it before she went to bed.
“Sit up for a moment and face away from me. I’ll be back.”
But she’d just gotten comfortable! However, she did as she was told. To her surprise, he returned with her hairbrush and a hair tie. Sitting behind her, he started brushing her hair.
Oh, that felt so nice.
She closed her eyes and felt herself starting to relax. Then he quickly braided her hair.
“That’s it, Twinkles. Just relax. Lie down now.”
She snuggled into her nest and he tucked her back in. Then she felt him kiss her forehead.
Immy didn’t want him to leave, but she didn’t have any reason to ask him to stay. But he didn’t leave, instead he quietly started singing.
That was the last thing she remembered before she fell asleep.

Immy stepped into the house, glad to be home.
The charity concert had been a huge success. At least for the charity.
For her, the whole thing had felt odd.
Maybe it was because Abe and Isaiah hadn’t been there. Or because she hadn’t seen much of Sampson and Jenner.
The only constant person in her life at the moment was . . . Tobias. Which was a bit odd given she didn’t know him that well.
But you’d like to.
Hush.
Yeah, she didn’t know him that well, but he had proven to be reliable. Immy could cope with changes in her environment as long as the people in her life remained steady.
“I’m going to go check on Abe and Isaiah,” she said, grabbing her suitcase.
Her hand was instantly brushed away from the handle and she glanced up, surprised to find Jenner frowning down at her.
Why was he frowning at her? What was wrong?
“What is it?” she asked.
“You don’t carry your own luggage, Immy, and you know it.”
She gaped as he stomped up the stairs.
“You know the rules, Immy,” Sampson added, giving her a frown as well.
Sheesh.
She turned to see Tobias looking up the stairs thoughtfully.
“Can you believe them?” She raised her hands into the air. “I’m in trouble for grabbing my bag? Men!”
“Well, you should know better,” Tobias told her.
“Don’t you start!” She waggled a finger at him. She should go up and put her stuff away.
But she needed to see the others. Everything felt . . . wrong at the moment. Her worry about Maeve’s stalker should have disappeared, but all of this confusion about why he’d had a Sentinel tattoo had left her feeling unsettled.
Plus, Lauren seemed to be placing more and more barriers between her and Jenner. Trying to separate them.
Although Jenner had insisted on her sleeping in his room after Maeve’s kidnapping. That had been so nice.
She sighed as she headed to Abe’s door. Abe always had the ability to make her feel better about life. She knocked on his door.
“Abe? You in there?” she called out.
There was no reply.
