And horny.

And suddenly very, verrrry shy. This wasn’t like being on a webcam and playing video games for random people on the internet. This was very real, and I felt nervous all of a sudden. Like I was at the same pool party my high school crush, Tony Swanson, was at, and all I wanted to do was sit under the shade and secretly ogle the perfect body rippling under the golden sunlight.

At that same pool party, Tony ended up making out with three different girls and bumped into me without saying sorry, so it clearly didn’t go well.

“Maybe we should just, uh, dip our feet in?”

“Sure,” Rocky said. And then the incredibly hot asshole turned to the pool, put his hands up, and went at it in a run, jumping off the edge and cannonballing straight into the deep end. A wave of water rose and crested onto the floor, some of it splashing against my feet.

He rose out of the water like a freaking Atlantean god, his dark wet hair falling onto his face, which he shook off as if he were in a slow-motion music video. I could practically make out the individual drops of water that flew off him.

Fuck it.

I just had to take the plunge, like Rocky had done. Why not? Sure, I was running on two hours of sleep and pure adrenaline, which may have been clouding my judgment, but I really couldn’t see a reason why I shouldn’t just jump into the pool in my underwear and actually live for once. I could experience something that didn’t have to do with a computer screen and some pixelated characters. I could be spontaneous and go with my gut, instead of listening to my fears and anxieties.

I kicked off my shoes and pulled off my socks, stepping onto the warm, sun-baked concrete. The water underneath my toes kept them from getting too hot. I took my shirt off next, folding it up and placing it on the chair next to the fire pit. Next were my pants. I glanced to the pool, where Rocky was swimming underwater from one end to the other.

Before he could emerge, I hurriedly undid my pants and dropped them. My gray boxers didn’t have any holes in them, but they also didn’t exactly flatter me. They were loose around my thighs and didn’t have a button in the front, so I was one wrong (or right?) move away from my dick popping out like it was Groundhog Day and it was looking around for a shadow.

Well, looks like the penis found its phallic shadow! Six more weeks of winter and testicular shrinkage ahead.

I followed Rocky’s lead and ran to the pool, jumping and cannonballing the same way he had. Instantly, my body felt refreshed. The pool was the absolute perfect temperature to ward off the summer sun, and it also worked to wash away the building nerves. Under the water, I opened my eyes and saw Rocky’s bottom half directly in front of me.

I wasn’t sure if it was the magnifying effects of water or if it was actually Rocky, but wow was he bulging.

I swam up and broke through the surface before I could latch onto him like a sex-starved piranha. I took a breath and rubbed the water from my face, much less elegantly than Rocky had done.

“How’s the water?” he asked.

“Perfect. You were right, this was a good idea. I feel like my body really needed this.”

The sound of the waterfall filled my ears so that I spoke louder to compensate. It had a relaxing effect on me, making me forget about the fact that I was currently inside the home of a mysterious detective who had way more money than he’d ever let on. I definitely wasn’t expecting this when I woke up on my parents’ couch this morning, that was for sure.

“There are days I spend just floating around in here. Especially if I’ve just closed a really difficult case. This pool is my happy place.”

“And I can see why.” I looked around, admiring not only the pool but the surroundings. There were elegant palm trees lined up on the perimeter of the property, their large leaves fanning in the gentle breeze. There were slate-gray boulders surrounding a small pond where the backyard curved and stretched on around the rest of the mansion. I couldn’t see any of the neighbors from where we treaded water in the pool, the houses next door obscured by the wall of palm trees.

With my jaw slightly dropped, I said, “This is a total paradise.”

Rocky, water glistening in little diamond shapes up and down his neck, leaned back against the pool’s edge, placing his elbows up on the concrete. The light caught his eyes just right, making them reflect the azure blue of the water and causing them to glow impossibly bright.
