“Holy moly,” I mutter under my breath when my eyes are inundated with silky gowns, glistening chandeliers, and a wall of mirrors that expose the shock on my face from every angle. “This changing room is bigger than my apartment.”

Either miffed by my assumption or too snooty to hide her disdain, the saleslady scoffs before jiggling a bottle of champagne in her hand. “Krug, anyone?” Not waiting for an answer and oblivious to the excitement prickling my skin, she fills two glasses before attempting to hand one to me.

“Perhaps later,” Jack mutters before veering me away from her. “We only have an hour until my next appointment. I plan to use the time wisely.”

My drooped lips lift to a smile when he slowly walks us past the selection of dresses the saleswoman selected for me. They’re gorgeous, and I’d be smitten to own any of them, but it’s the way Jack drinks them in for merely a second before he stares at me long enough to imagine me in it that has my excitement growing.

“This one,” he murmurs half a minute later while nudging his head at the exact dress I couldn’t take my eyes off the instant we entered the elaborate space. “It’s sexy and risqué but still tastefully refined.” When his thumb rubs the vein throbbing overtime in my wrist, I realize he is matching the dress’s persona to the woman standing next to him. “It is perfect.”

After squeezing my hand for the second time, he releases it from his grip so he can move the dress from the rack to a hanger in front of the wall of mirrors. The way he strides across the room with such animalistic characteristics has the hunger inside me growing rampant.

My fascination with him didn’t grow because I learned of his wealth and impeccable reputation. It is how he adapts himself to any situation. On Saturday, he was a carefree, laidback man who drank wine from a box and laughed when I told him he had lettuce stuck in his teeth.

Today, he is a refined media mogul with so much grace and sophistication you’d swear he’d never use the word ‘fuck’ let alone during sheet-clenching sex in a rundown apartment with no working elevator.

He truly fascinates me. So much so, when he clears the room with an arrogant wave of his hand, I don’t attempt to flee along with his security detail or the sales lady. I keep my feet rooted in place and my concerns in the back of my mind until there’s no one in the rapidly-shrinking room but my hotshot boss and me.

CHAPTER 13

JACK

The heat blooming on Octavia’s milky white cheeks inflames even more when Fitz closes the door a second after he walks through it, leaving her defenseless to my charm. Although she looks impartial to staying, she won’t flee because she knows I’m not a man who backs down without a fight. We tussled with men who thought their shit didn’t stink the first half of today, and without fail, I came out on top.

I will with Octavia as well.

“Let me,” I mutter when Octavia’s hands move for the zipper in the skirt I’ve fantasized about shredding to pieces on more than one occasion today.

For how she attempted to end things at the beginning of the proceedings, today has been remarkably good. I had an early-morning counseling session with Dr. Avery, took advantage of the numerous mental snapshots I took of Octavia while she was sleeping to calm the throb between my legs this morning in the shower, and I’ve learned that although beautiful beyond comprehension, Octavia is also smart.

I only had to step in once during our meetings this morning, and that was more driven by my desire to protect Octavia than her needing my help, but she handled the rest of the arrogant, pompous men I tackle day in and day out without so much as a bead of sweat dotting her brow.

I won’t lie. I fought temptation multiple times today. My hands itched to touch and fondle her during the brief interludes of our meetings, but the premise of our encounters kept my hands at my sides—for the most part.

The men Octavia fired today won’t work again once I pass on their errant practices to fellow businessmen of my caliber, but neither will I if I don’t practice what I preach.

Inside the walls of headquarters, Octavia is my employee.

All bets are off the instant we leave, though.

“Do you normally wear your hair down?” I ask while pulling away the glossy locks I’m disappointed no longer smell like me from her neck.

The faintest pink coloring hits her neck, and I’m hard in an instant. I love the way her body responds to my meekest touch as much as I love how uncontrollable mine is around her. Usually, I’d stand to greet my peers when they enter the room, but just the slightest scent of Octavia’s perfume lingering from her skin had me too hard to do that.
