There had been no missed calls or texts come through the phone my father had given me. I was happy to destroy it, but Odin said not to … that it could become useful.
Still, no cards arrived. No flowers. Not even a box of chocolates, not that I would have eaten them anyway. I didn’t trust my own family. The only person I did trust was Odin. The one man who had vowed to keep me safe, and all I had do to was be loyal to him. For the next week, we didn’t go out, and even though the poison had been in my system, I felt a little out of sorts.
Odin didn’t leave my side. We stayed at his studio apartment, cooking together, watching movies. When he did have to take a work call, I read one of the many books he’d gotten me. I was still a sucker for a romance, and I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to have sex with Odin.
Yes, how quickly my life had changed. I didn’t realize I had started quite an erotic book, and yet the one I was reading was filthy and explored the relationship between a couple that were worlds apart. He was rich, she was not, and they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.
I loved taking a shower with Odin and having his hands on me, but I didn’t quite know how to translate it. How did you tell someone you wanted to have sex? Did he even want to take our relationship to the next level?
We were married but that didn’t mean we’d ever consummate our marriage. All I could seem to think about right now was sex. It was all that was on my mind, just sex, and I wasn’t happy about it. I didn’t want to think about sex, but as I iced the chocolate cake with the chocolate fudge icing, that was all that was going through my head.
Sex.
With Odin.
Wondering what it would be like to finally be claimed by him.
I knew it would be good, it would be powerful, and I looked over to where he was on his cell phone, at the window. He wore a pair of jeans and a white shirt, and he looked sexy. I’d never seen him in a suit. He didn’t look like any of the men I was used to being around. He looked powerful and in control.
I finished the last swoop of the icing, then took a lick off the spatula, and it tasted good. Odin finished his call and turned toward me. I was at the dining room table, as that was where I decided to ice the cake. All the frosting was gone, and Odin came toward me.
“Is everything okay?” I asked.
“Three girls have gone missing,” Odin said, taking a seat.
He didn’t ignore me, or try to hide his troubles.
I tensed up. “Three girls?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He ran a hand down his face. “I’m chasing leads, but they could be runaways. Some of the information I’m getting tells me they don’t have it great at home.”
“Do you follow up on all missing girls’ cases?” I asked.
“As many as I can, and missing kids as well.”
“Kids?”
He nodded. “It’s a fucking grim reality out there.”
“Wow,” I said.
“Yeah, there are quite a few people that would pay for kids.”
He reached into the bowl and swept a finger through the chocolate frosting. As he did so, I couldn’t help but think of the casino owned by the Serra Mafia. “Have you considered the Serra Casino?” I asked.
Odin frowned as he looked at me. “It’s closed down.”
This was news to me. I pressed my lips together and couldn’t help but frown. “I’ve heard a few of the Capos mention the Serra Casino, and that it was red hot.”
Odin sat back.
“I wouldn’t lie about this. I thought it meant the casino was bringing in a lot of cash.”
“How do you know this?” he asked.
“People don’t pay attention to me,” I said with a shrug. “It’s easy.”
He sat back and sighed. “Okay, fine, okay.” He got to his feet, pressed a kiss to my temple, and made a call.
I gathered the empty bowl of frosting, along with my utensils, to the kitchen. I washed them as I didn’t like leaving dishes to go crusty, which made it impossible to wash them. Once they were done, I went back to the dining room, intent on taking the cake to the fridge to give it a chance to set. Only, Odin was actually eating from the main cake.
“You didn’t even think to cut yourself a slice?” I asked.
“I did, but then I figured you and I are going to eat this anyway, and this is good.”
I didn’t even realize I had left a fork, but there it was. He held it out to me, and I chuckled, as I came to sit down and take some chocolate cake from him. It was good. Better than good. I couldn’t help but release a moan as the chocolatey flavor exploded on my tongue.
