My father had an assistant who handled a lot of things for him, but he didn’t trust her with the financials for the business, so that was entrusted to me. If this was a legitimate business, then perhaps it would be more straightforward, but since everything was encoded and paid in cash most of the time, it was a lot of work.

We sat at a table together, and none of us paid for a single drink because they were all sent over by admirers. Some of them were brave enough to come over, and the more we drank, the looser we became, and then it really turned into a party.

One of the guys who’d bought me a drink pulled up a chair beside me. He was tall, dark, and handsome, a very good-looking man. He had a nice smile too. But when his leg touched mine and his eyes took a peek at my goodies, I didn’t feel anything.

I knew it wasn’t because of Ryan.

It was because of someone else.

We made small talk, but it felt forced because all he wanted to do was close, and I wasn’t sure what I wanted. Screwing some hot guy felt like a good revenge plan against Ryan, but I didn’t really care about revenge anymore.

“Are you listening to me?” His deep voice broke through my reverie, and then his hand moved to my thigh. “Seemed like you drifted off there.” He didn’t just put his hand on my thigh, but his fingers were slightly up my skirt, making himself right at home when he’d just met me a couple minutes ago.

It didn’t make me warm, excited, or wet…just uncomfortable.

I flicked his hand off my thigh.

He sat back, clearly wounded by the action. “You know there are plenty of other women here who’d love to talk to me.”

“You weren’t talking,” I snapped. “You were groping.”

“Wow.” He gave a slight eye roll. “Whatever, bitch.” He got up to leave.

I stuck out my leg to trip him.

He stumbled slightly and almost dove headfirst into the floor. But he righted himself then looked at me like he might come back over and kill me.

“Watch your step.” I flipped my hair then turned back to the table and took the drink that he’d spent his change on.

“Fucking cunt.” He raised his voice enough for it to be heard over the loud music and conversation.

“What did you call her?”

I turned back around when I heard another voice.

Axel was there, several inches taller than the guy who’d insulted me. But he was taller than most people, because he was at least six foot four. His blue eyes weren’t pretty anymore, just hard and utterly terrifying.

The guy had to be at least six foot and didn’t seem to be used to being the short one, based on his hesitation. He took a step back.

Axel could let it go, but he didn’t.

“Pussy, I asked you a question.” Axel got in his face. “What did you call her?”

The guy tried to walk away.

Axel grabbed him by the shirt and yanked him close, using the guy’s shirt like reins on a horse. “Answer the question.”

The guy tried to push himself off, but Axel’s grip was so strong that it got him nowhere.

Axel yanked him around, stretching out his shirt so much that the fabric started to come apart. “It sounded like you called her a bitch. And a cunt.” He jerked him hard then dragged him across the floor, back to where I sat in my chair. All my friends stopped talking when they realized what was happening.

Axel forced him in front of me, on his knees, his face red with rage. “Apologize.”

The guy was silent in defiance.

“Let me put it this way.” Axel had him like a fish on a hook. “Apologize, or I take you outside to bash in your skull.”

The guy’s head was tilted down, and he didn’t look at me. “Sorry…”

Axel gave him a hard jerk. “Sorry for what, asshole?”

“Sorry for what I said—”

“Sorry for calling you a bitch and a cunt.”

“Fuck,” he snapped. “Sorry for calling you a bitch and cunt.”

“And.”

“And what?”

“You have a small dick.”

My eyes widened.

The guy kept his head down.

“Say it.” Axel grabbed him by the neck and started to squeeze. “Say it, motherfucker.”

The guy seethed, like he wanted to kill Axel but had no chance of succeeding. “I have a small dick.”

“Sorry, didn’t hear you.”

He tried to get to his feet. “Fuck you—”

Axel slammed his fist so hard into the guy’s face that it broke his nose and made blood squirt everywhere.

“Jesus Christ.” The guy cupped his nose with his hand then spat out the blood that dripped into his mouth.

“Say it. Loud this time.”

He spat out more blood. “I have a small dick. Fuck, can I go now?”

Axel shoved him aside then kicked him. “Off you go.”
