“That might have been fine if you didn’t know how I felt about you, but you did.” He’d gone through with his plan, knowing full well how I felt, using it to his advantage. “You’re a monster far worse than he is, and I wish I’d never left him in the first place.”

His hold on me immediately weakened as if he was the one betrayed.

I pushed past him and grabbed the handle on the suitcase. “At the end of the day, you got what you want, so you don’t need me anymore.” I started to walk out.

He grabbed the bag and pulled it out of my hand. “I said, you aren’t leaving.”

“Why? You got what you wanted, Cauldron. What do you need me for?”

“I’m not letting you go back to him, not when you deserve better.”

“Fine. I’ll go somewhere else, then. Just let me go.”

“He’ll track you down and find you.”

“And how is that your problem?” I snapped.

“It’s my problem because we made a deal. I keep you safe from him. Nothing has changed.”

“Asshole, everything changed when you stabbed me in the back. I don’t trust you. I don’t like you. No.—I fucking hate you. Hate is the word I’m looking for.”

He kept up his poker face, but his eyes changed a little bit. “Be that as it may, you aren’t going anywhere.”

“What the fuck did you just say?” I walked straight up to him. “This isn’t about keeping me safe from Grave. This is about you having what he wants. This is all still part of your sick scheme to get back at him. What the fuck is wrong with you?” I shoved both of my palms into his chest and pushed him as hard as I could.

He stumbled back but only slightly, coming back at me instantly.

Instead of slapping him across the face, my signature move, I punched him. Punched him right in the nose.

Blood burst from the hit, but he still twisted my arm down as if nothing had happened. He didn’t even react to the hit. With both of my hands now bound behind my back, he shoved me up against another wall. “It’s not just about having what he wants. It’s about having what I want too. And I want you.”

“Well, I’ll never want you. Ever. Not after what you did to me.”

“I apologized—”

“And that means nothing to me. Literally nothing.” I tried to wiggle from his hold, but he was too strong.

He stared at me for a long time, his hold so tight it was forever binding. “I hope that changes because I’ll never let you go. You’ll remain here with me at my estate. You’re still my woman.”

“I was never your woman.”

His eyes shifted back and forth between mine.

“I ran from Grave because he’s a monster. But you’re a fucking demon.”

With a dead look in his eyes, he spoke. “I’m sorry you feel that way.” He finally released me and headed out the door.

“I’ll fucking kill you. I’ll stab you over dinner. I slit your throat when you sleep. I’ll find one of your guns and shoot you in your study. If you don’t let me go, you’re a dead man. You hear me?”

He walked down the hallway and entered his bedroom.

“You hear me?”

Camille was wrong about Cauldron. Instead of solving her problem, he’s become an even bigger one. Find out what happens next in Better Man.
