He doesn’t respond, so I scoot off the large bed to find a note on the nightstand.

Haley,

Didn’t want to wake you. I’m at the meeting. I’ll be back around twelve. Please order some food for yourself.

Elijah

He went to the meeting without me. I can’t believe it considering that’s what he hired me for in the first place unless I’m just here for sex. Maybe it’s because I was comatose again and he couldn’t wait for me to get ready. Shit. I let him down.

Flopping back on the bed, I let out a groan and huff, slapping my hands over the covers. I won’t let it happen again. Men and women like him don’t stay successful by sleeping in late no matter what time they got in the night before. Tossing the sheet off, I get up and head into the bathroom.

The bath is calling my name, but I refuse to linger, so I take a shower instead. My muscles ache in new ways and places, throbbing as I move around the large bathroom. Wrapping up in a robe, I pull out one of the fantastic outfits that Miss Callahan had picked out for the trip. My top is a pretty hibiscus and my pants are an off-white thin fabric, so when I look in the mirror I feel beautiful.

A knock at the door catches my attention. I walk to the door and check the peephole to see Elijah’s security. “Good morning, Miss Smith. Elijah asked that you have breakfast brought up as soon as I heard footsteps.”

“Oh, thank you.” I move out of the way so he can wheel in the cart.

“I can’t believe he had you get this.”

“Oh I just had to tell them to bring it. I didn’t do anything other than tell them to get lost because he doesn’t want anyone else in the room with you.” I blush.

“Thank you either way.”

“You’re welcome. I better go. If you need anything just holler. I’ll be on the other side of the door until he returns.” I nod and he leaves.

I open the lid and find a full American breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, and pancakes with a side of fruit. This man is trying to stuff me to the gills. Still, it smells incredible and I can’t help but dig in and after the first bite I know it tastes even better.

Moaning with every bite, I’m in heaven. The door opens up, and I jolt around to see Elijah staring at me. “Now that’s one sexy sight.”

“Thank you,” I mumble, swallowing a bite of cantaloupe. “You’re back early. Hope everything went well.”

“It did. It’s not that early. I only mentioned a later time in case it lasted longer than it should have. How are you doing?”

“Better now that I’ve eaten. What do you need me to do?” I ask, wiping my hands on my napkin.

“Kiss me would be a great start,” he growls, crossing the distance between us. I stand and run into his open arms, planting my lips on his. He pulls his mouth back enough to say, “That’s more like it, baby.”

“I missed you, Eli.”

“I missed you too, Hales.” He scoops me up and carries me over to the sofa. “But we need to talk first.”

“Uh oh.”

“There’s no uh oh. You just need rest, beautiful. The doctor called with the results. You’re a little malnourished and probably sleep-deprived, add stress to the mix and it could explain why you’re finally getting sleep now that you have a chance.”

“That’s good news.”

“Do you feel up to sightseeing today since we have some time?”

“Yes, please.” I jump off his lap and run toward the door.

“Did you eat enough?”

“I ate plenty.”

“Okay then let’s head out. There’s a lot to see in a short amount of time.”

Chapter Seven

Elijah

I love this woman so fucking much it has taken over my soul and entire being. “Hales, where are you?”

“In the bath.” Fuck yes.

I stroll into the room and see her smiling up at me surrounded by bubbles. “You are going to send me into cardiac arrest.” I grab my chest and step back looking at her sexy body in the water.

“Sorry, I didn’t realize you were that old.” She bats her eyelashes.

“I’m about to spank that smart ass of yours.”

“Whatever.”

“So how was the latest meeting that you didn’t need your assistant for?”

“You’re supposed to be resting. Besides, it was straight forward and kind of boring. I couldn’t wait to get out of there and get back here to you. So how about a day at Lake Garda?”

“I’d like that, Elijah, but I could use some help washing.”

My phone rings and I’m waiting on an important call. “I’m sorry, baby. I have to take this.” As much as I don’t want to deal with anything but Haley, work still has to be done. I leave the bathroom and talk out on the balcony.
