“I’m not going to let them touch you.”

“He was at the apartment.”

“Which one?”

“The one in the white dress shirt.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yes. Please don’t make a scene.”

“I’m not. I promise.” They stand and walk straight to us with their bill. The guy who was there doesn’t say a word, but the cop with him does as he hands me his card; he makes a point to touch my fingers as he does so.

I process it without a word when he says, “I don’t know you. You must be new, and beautiful to boot. I’m Charlie.”

“She’s taken,” Logan snarls, handing him back the card.

“Oh, I see. Well, you’re a lucky bastard.” He winks and walks out. The other guy keeps his head down as if he’s afraid that I’ll cause a scene, but it’s the furthest thing from my mind. I don’t want to see them ever again, and I know that Logan wants the same. Once they’re gone, he tells Heather to take over while taking me into the back. The second the door closes, my back hits the wooden surface and his mouth takes mine. “I’m going to kill them.”

“I don’t know the cop.”

“Still, he was flirting with you in front of me.”

“Crazy man. Can we just forget it all? I want to be happy.”

“Soon. Now kiss me so I can get my temper under control.”

Logan

Clover spent an hour on the phone with her parents, who have met a nice gentleman for her if she’s willing to come home. I straightened that shit out. I picked up the phone and said she’s taken and that very soon a trip to Wyoming was in the cards because I’m marrying their daughter. I said that last part in the other room before ending the call because I want to surprise Clover later.

She’s finally in bed after a long day at the diner and then a movie on the sofa with a slow dicking before I carried her sleepy body to lie down.

Gage sends me a text to meet him outside my house in ten minutes. When I head out, he’s got information for me. “He’s on his way back. I don’t know what they said, but he’s either anxious to silence her or pretend that nothing happened, but we’re not going to let that happen, right?”

“Hell motherfucking no. Where is he, exactly?”

“He should be getting into town any minute now.”

“I want him dead, but I want to do it myself. Let him come back.”

“Never doubted that for a minute. He’s only about an hour from Wyoming, so it won’t be long to get him where you want.”

“Good. We have a five-hour window before Clover and I have to be up for work at the diner.”

“Well, we’ll do a perimeter check around the house every hour, but I’m guessing it won’t take long for him to scope out your home. He has to know now that she ran to you for protection.”

“Good. Then he knows she belongs to me.”

Gage barely leaves my house when I hear Clover moving in the bedroom. I walk back to our room and say, “Hey, baby. Did I wake you up?”

“No. I just…”

“What, Clover?”

“I missed your warmth.”

“I’m sorry, baby. Let’s get back in there and lie down before we have to wake up.” I look over at the clock just as it turns to midnight. “Happy Birthday, Lucky!”

“Thank you, Logan.” She smiles, looking at the clock, confirming that it’s her birthday.

“So you’ll go in with me just so I can keep an eye on you, but I still want you to take it easy.”

“Of course. I want to help all I can. Do you think Carl will show up?”

“I don’t know, but he’d be stupid to try and start something in front of people. There may be a lot of crooked cops in this town, but we command more respect and loyalty from the residents.”

“That’s good, but what happens if he starts stalking us?”

“It won’t come to that. I’m going to deal with him today.”

“I don’t want details. All that matters is that you come back safely to me.”

“I will. I will always come home to you.”

We arrive at the diner and the place is fully decorated in green shamrocks and green flowers, but it’s not overly done. It’s enough to say it’s St. Patrick’s Day without being tacky.

“Good morning, everyone.”

“Logan, Clover! Good morning,” Rosie cheers, bringing Clover a green beaded necklace.

“Clover’s not going to be working on the floor today. It’s her birthday, so she’ll be in the office.”

Rosie and Heather giggle, knowing that we were fucking in the office. They said it could only be heard when you passed by the door, which pleased me. The thought of people hearing her cries of ecstasy drives me nuts.

“Happy birthday, Clover!” They each give her hugs, but then I pull her back. Ricky in the back knows better than to try that shit with her. No man puts his hands on my woman. “Are we ready to open?”
