I laugh in disbelief. “We’re not safe here.”

“We’re safe enough. Blake has eyes on the cameras. I have eyes on you. We’re living in the moment, baby. Right here. Right now, because there might not be another.”

“That’s why we need to run, to regroup—”

He kisses me, a deep, drugging slide of his tongue, and before I even know what’s happened, I’m against the wall, his strong body framing mine, overwhelming me in a good, but oh so poorly timed way. I moan with the taste of him, fighting to stay mentally aware of where we are and the dangers of the “moment” as he calls this.

“No running,” he declares, stroking the hair from my face. “No more running.”

“Luke—”

“Ana.”

“Stop doing that,” I chide, which isn’t easy when he’s touching me. This man and his hands have always been my undoing.

He catches the hem of my shirt. I catch his hand. “We’re exposed here.”

“If they kill me with you naked and in my arms, I’ll die a happy man. It’s this or I go kill people now, Ana. It’s your call.”

His mouth closes down on mine again, and somehow, I lose my sanity enough that my shirt ends up over my head, but I don’t fight him. An action that’s a product of a realization. He just said all he needs to say. Luke really does want to go kill everyone right now. Because there’s a side of Luke most people don’t know, a wild side that both turns me on and terrifies me. He’s there now, on edge, and in a big way. If he doesn’t come down and come down fast, then it’s going to get bloodier than it has to. Or maybe bloodier sooner than it has to.

Either way, he’s not wrong.

If this is how we die, this is how we die.

Chapter Twenty-One

Luke

When I’d walked out of that locker room, I’d been coming out of my own skin. These people have torn our lives apart. They’re the reason I killed Kasey. They’re the reason I lost Ana and myself in the process. And I still don’t even know who they are. But when I find out, and I will, they’re dead.

Control.

I don’t like not having it. I won’t let us ride this problem out without finding it again.

For now, I’ll settle for Ana on my cock, riding me, and doing it now. I run my hand down her back and unhook her bra, sliding it over her shoulders, and pressing her arms to the wall over her head. My gaze rakes over her breasts. My cellphone rings and my teeth grind. Damn it to hell, not now. I grab my phone, eye Blake’s number on caller ID, and force myself to answer, before shoving it back in my pocket and speaking to him on my earbuds. “Yeah.”

“You gonna update me?”

“It was empty.” But I’m not right now. Not with Ana leaning on that wall, with her naked breasts right in my face.

I tease her nipples and she catches my hands as if Blake can see what we’re doing.

“Fuck,” he replies.

Fuck is right, I think. Just let me off this phone to fuck my woman.

“Where’s your head at?” he asks.

“I need a minute to think.”

“Agreed. Stay put. Let me think through our options. I’ll call you in fifteen or sooner if you need to evacuate.”

“Copy that, boss.” I hit the button on my earbuds and disconnect.

“He wants us to lay low. He’ll call if there’s a problem. Long story short, we have minutes to fuck our brains out. Any objections?” I run my index finger around her nipples.

She catches my hands. “No.”

I arch a brow.

“Then why are you holding onto my hands?”

“Because you keep teasing me.”

“You know it, baby,” I say, turning her to face the wall, and forcing her to catch herself on the hard surface. It’s a submissive position and for a good reason. As much as I like it when Ana is fierce and demanding, there are times when I like her to submit. And she likes it, too. It was a realization that set our relationship on fire. I’d had a bad day, a fucked-up day. I actually lost a man on a job overseas. It was a freak accident. He’d been leaning out of the chopper, trying to get a ground view, and he’d caught his jacket on the door, slipping as he did. One of the other men all but went over with him trying to save him.

I’d come home a mess, but Ana had been at work. I’d gone straight to the bar and poured a drink, desperate to kill the pain of that loss. Ned had been the man’s name. He had two fucking kids. I’d been on the couch, in the dark, halfway through a bottle when Ana had arrived. She’d known something was wrong, obviously.
