A large hand appeared in front of her.

A big, tanned hand with dried blood on it.

“Fuck.” The hand disappeared. “Tanner.”

Tanner moved in front of her, and grabbing her under the arms, he lifted her onto her feet.

Did Raid not want to touch her? Was that why he pulled away?

Or it could be because he’s bleeding to death.

“You’re bleeding,” she said, staring up at him.

Raid studied her in confusion. “Did you hit your head this morning, Hannah? Doc, can you check her for a concussion? And while you’re back there, make sure she didn’t hurt herself when she fell.”

Was he serious?

“Hannah?” Jenna asked quietly. “Are you all right? Did you hurt yourself badly?”

She shook her head, at a loss for words. “I’m fine. I’m good. Really. You need to take Raid back. He’s bleeding.” She wasn’t sure why it was hitting her so hard.

Probably because it was Raid. And she was always an idiot when Raid was around.

“Right. Raid, you come back with me. We’ll clean you up and see what we’re dealing with. Hannah, why don’t you take a moment? Get a drink of water. Rest.”

She didn’t need to rest. What she needed to do was die of embarrassment.

“I think you should see to Hannah first,” Raid insisted. “She’s not acting right.”

Lord. What was he doing? He’d never shown this much concern for her health before. There was no reason for her to be seen by Jenna. She was fine.

And the longer they stood here, talking about her, the more embarrassed she grew.

Tanner sent her a strange look that she couldn’t decipher.

“All I did was trip and fall. I haven’t hurt my head. I just . . . I need to go to the bathroom. Excuse me.” She rushed off, not looking at any of them, before hiding in the break room’s bathroom.

Looking in the mirror, she grimaced at herself.

“You’re a giant dork, Hannah. The dorkiest of the dorks.” What was she thinking? Why did she do that? She took a deep breath and then slowly let it out. “You’ve got to learn to be cool.”

It was all Raid’s fault. He brought out this dorkiness in her. She’d worked as a medical receptionist for years and was always calm in a crisis.

Always.

But the sight of Raid bleeding had muddled her brain.

Unfortunately, she had to get back out there. “Okay, Hannah, he’s just a man. Not a god. He has his flaws like everyone else. Just think about him getting pimples on his butt and having smelly feet.”

Pimples on his butt.

Smelly feet.

Got it.

Taking a fortifying breath, she walked out the door and came to a sudden stop as she saw Tanner waiting in the break room. He was sitting on a chair, reading a gossip magazine.

“Um, what are you doing back here?” she asked.

He glanced up. “Oh, hey, Hannah. The big idiot insisted that I come check you’re all right. Something about brain damage, bruised knees . . . blah, blah, I stopped listening after he said that.” He stood.

Lord, he was beautiful.

All the Malone men were in their own way. Some of them were downright intimidating. Others were crazy–like Raid and Tanner. They ran wild through the entire county. She didn’t think there was a bar or nightclub in a hundred-mile radius that didn’t batten down the hatches when one of them walked in.

They weren’t the settling-down types.

Although all the rest of their brothers had found their significant others. Even grumpy West had sweet Flick, who was about to pop out their first baby.

So perhaps there was hope for Raid and Tanner and the masses of women who likely had crushes on them.

But not for her. They weren’t for her.

She was too dull. Too ordinary.

Raid needed someone with as much life and energy as he had. Not the forgettable medical receptionist. The only thing interesting about her was that she was a sub. But so was half the population of Haven.

And that wasn’t something that would likely attract Raid.

“I’m fine. He shouldn’t have wasted your time by sending you to check on me.”

Tanner ran his gaze over her. “Yeah, you look fine to me too, honey. But it wasn’t a waste of my time. Any time I can spend with you over that big, ugly idiot is not a waste. Not only do you smell better, but you sure are prettier.”

“Good Lord, you are such a flirt.” She rolled her eyes at him. “Do women really fall for cheesy lines like that?”

He put a hand on his chest and pretended to stumble back. “You wound me.”

She gave him a skeptical look. Yeah, right. She wasn’t buying that for a second. “You’ll survive. It’s not fatal.”

He grinned. “That your expert opinion?”

“Yep.”

“Come on, I’ll walk you back out. His Lord and Master has me under strict instructions to ‘keep an eye on you’.”
