“Well, that’s news to us. I have no intentions of doing anything to anyone but my wife for the foreseeable future. The Morenos lie. It’s their way of life and if I were you, I’d be careful because the more you dig in with them, the more likely you’ll end up in their crosshairs.”

“And we don’t have that problem with your family?”

“Do I have a reason to not like you? No. Well, then, Detectives, I suggest you relax and focus on other matters. The Morenos aren’t worth your time.” They nod and take their leave.

The second they’re gone, Matteo looks at Gio and says, “Get their finances. They’re working for the Morenos. I don’t know who they think they’re fooling, but they need to try harder.”

“Could that have been more obvious?” I say. “Either they are complete morons, or they’re trying to see how much they can extract for him.”

“Nothing. Well, let’s continue with our celebration.” He slides his hand around my waist and twirls me around the room as if there’s music playing. Suddenly, the household surround sound comes on and music plays. “Our first dance, my wife.”

“I’m obsessed.” All the married couples start dancing around us.

“Good because that makes two of us, and as you can see, it’s for life.”

“It’s perfect.”

Epilogue

Matteo

The beach was beautiful with my queen in her many tiny swimsuits. Today is our last day on this island paradise. Of course we were isolated, and our security kept their distance.

We made special appearances in town just in case the police needed to know our whereabouts. It’s the strangest thing. Several heads of the Moreno family committed suicide in the past week. The detectives believe it’s because they lost all their assets to Russian hackers who remain untraceable.

The last of the Moreno Family took their wives and kids and fled the state. It’s amazing what happens when you lose almost everything. We’re sure they have some hidden assets, but it won’t be long until they cross the wrong men in Mexico. They had a tendency to upset the wrong people, especially people like the Bianchi Family who had been like us and planned their attack with skill.

It’s amazing how easily someone’s demise could look like suicide.

“Hey there, Don Matteo.”

I spin around and find my bride staring at me in a sultry green dress that accents her hair and brings out the color of her eyes. “There’s my viper.”

“Like you didn’t know where I was.”

“No, the woman who is ready to strike. What’s going on in those dangerous eyes and vicious mind?”

“Nothing.”

“You know how I feel about your lies.”

“Yes, but we’re going to be late for dinner.”

“They’ll hold our seats.” She bites on the side of her bottom lip, and I sense she’s upset by something. “What’s going on, wife?”

“There was a woman on the beach, watching us today.” She looks out toward the beach.

“What do you mean? Why didn’t you say anything?”

“I didn’t realize it at first, but then I caught a glimpse and sent the drone up.”

“You should have said something.”

“I didn’t want to let on that we knew, just in case she got away.”

“Okay, so was she just curious that I was fucking breeding my wife?”

“No, she’s the one who was obsessed. I contacted Black, and she came up in several videos and photos where you were at.” She hands me her phone, and it’s the event I was at. I’d been focused on the appetizers and ignoring the woman. She shows me a close-up of the woman and then zooms out. She was staring right at me. Fuck—this woman wasn’t just interested, she was a stalker.

“Damn it. I’ll deal with this.”

“No, you won’t. I don’t want this bitch near you. You’re mine, or have you forgotten?” God, her jealous possessiveness is sexy as fuck, but I have to protect her at all costs and of course she has nothing to worry about since she’s had me since day one.

“Don’t even start that, woman.” I pull her in for a kiss just as a shot comes off, hitting the veranda we’re staying at.

I rushed her into the house for safety. Three more shots are fired, but our men are on it and a cry can be heard before a giant splash into the ocean. “That’s it. This bitch is sleeping with the fishes tonight.” I’d say she watches too many movies, but we’re on what’s supposed to be an isolated beach.

“Find her and make sure the shooter’s dead,” I shout out, pinning my wife down before she does something dumb like run into the crossfire.

“Wow, I thought I was crazy for you,” she says.

“You are, but I guess there’s levels of crazy. And I think I tap out at anything above your batshit level.”

“Good, because you’re mine.”

Several rounds of footsteps make their way to us. “Boss, Marco and Justin have her. She’s still breathing, but just barely.”
