The house is in the middle of nowhere. It appears to be a small shack made of wood, but it’s clearly not. Underneath, it’s a layer of steel. My father’s tools are brought out to scan the area for bombs and traps. Any metal and surveillance are the first things we pick up on. We’re just two klicks away from the location. There are ten men surrounding the cabin, letting us know she’s alive. If she wasn’t, there would be no need for security.

I send up a silent thank you for that, but now it’s time to get her out safely.

My father pulls me in for a one-armed hug. “We will get her back, and then we will destroy them all.”

“There is a surveillance system, but I can dummy it up and it won’t trace us. It’s not a heat sensing one. It’s probably because of the wildlife. They were either too cheap or annoyed by the constant animals in the area. Either way, it’s not up. They do have four sensors on the perimeter to go off if anyone crosses this area, but I’ve already turned them off. They are simpletons. Now, fellas, it’s time to go old school.”

“Boys, we taught you how to fight and how to kill. Don’t lose your nerve, or you will be the one to die.”

“Yes, Uncle,” Miles tells Blade. He taught us how to use every weapon with precision.

“Here you go.” He hands me a special blade. “For your future wife, exact the revenge you deserve.” He pats my back. It means the world to me that I have their respect and assistance. I know they’re doing because she’s their family, but also because I’m right for her.

“Thanks.”

“Listen up, I have a plan,” Blade says. He breaks it down step by step and we all agree even if Milo isn’t happy that he’s left with little chance of confronting the bastard before I do. He had his chance and failed.

We stealthily move along the wooden path with the least number of leaves. Blade and I take the high ground, going from the trees with a zip line while the rest move along the forest floor.

With our blades out, we strike at the two guards on the roof, knocking them to the ground below. They’re dead instantly. My father and hers are on the next two. We gently land on the roof and make our way to the hatch, entering with our guns ready. There are two rooms, and we’re immediately confronted by two armed bastards. Startled, they can’t pick up their weapons fast enough. I smirk as I let my rage loose. We end them and move on.

Outside, I know the others are getting the job done. The sound of their screams bring pleasure to my ears. I want them all to shout, but it’s nothing until I find her. I want to tear everyone apart.

The place is small, but there are multiple doorways, Blade goes in one direction, while I take the other. I call out for her and hear nothing. She has to be close. Then I realize that there’s another door, and I open it to see that it leads to a cellar. I rush down and find two men at the door.

I throw my knife and hit one in the chest. The other doesn’t realize I have a gun, and he fires at me, but I duck out of the way. Once he stops to reload, I turn into the room and blast his ass. He’s laid out, and then that’s when I spot the fucking bastard Milo made. “Wow, no wonder you want revenge. That face and no dick either?” A light scoffing chuckle leaves with my insult.

“You piece of shit,” he roars, but the damage has made him less scary. He rushes at me and tries to fight me, but he’s no match. His swing is wide as we move around the room, and the door is open. We go at it in the stairwell.

I shove him back and he falls, busting his head against the edge of the stairs, cracking his skull open like a damn egg. “Well, motherfucker, that was anticlimactic.” I walk down and look for my woman.

There she is in the middle of the room, looking petrified—of me.

Chapter Twelve

Elsa

His body is heaving as he stares at me with all the carnage around the room red and bloody as Jacob bleeds out. My body is in the center of the room, curled up. I’m afraid, but not of him, at least not that he’d hurt me. I’m never worried that he would hurt me, but what if he hates me? Slowly his eyes soften, and his steps move evenly toward me. “Miles,” I mutter. “I… I…” I continue to stammer, but the words are unable to form.
