I wished they’d done it years before that. They not only made each other miserable but me too. I have to admit that I also felt partially responsible for their misery. I know I shouldn’t, but as a kid I couldn’t control it.

When he comes back, we’ll talk. I’ll explain this all to him. Even if the idea of him one day moving on to find someone he might actually love turns my stomach. I’ll take that pain over having our child live through what I did growing up with parents that didn’t get along.

I sit on the sofa for a while, wondering when Archer is going to be back. When I start to grow tired, I make my way toward one of the bedrooms. We haven’t had a chance to talk about where I’ll be staying. Before I realize it, I’m standing in front of the bed that Archer had taken my virginity in. The very one we created our little one.

I sit down, running my hands across the blanket. Not much has changed really. While the room is beautifully decorated, there are no real personal touches to it. Probably why I thought it was a hotel room and not his own personal suite. Then again, I wasn't paying attention to the room. Archer had all my attention that night.

I toe my shoes off before I lie down on the big comfy bed. I reach over, pulling Archer’s pillow to my chest and burying my face into it. The smell of him surrounds me. My eyes start to grow heavy. I tell myself I’m going to get up, but within seconds, I’m out. The lure of safety and comfort is too much for me to fight.

CHAPTER 7

ARCHER

I’ve been told I have a terrible temper so when I felt it erupting during dinner with Mila, I left.

It’s not her fault I couldn’t find her. I should have made it clear that night that it wasn’t a one-night stand before I pushed inside of her. But I’d be so lost in my need for her. I was out of my mind with it.

I’m angrier with myself than with anyone. Because she went so long without me, she’s filled with a bundle of insecurities. That's on me. Since I'm the one that caused them, I'll need to be the one to fix them.

When return to the room, I find her sleeping—a little kitten in a giant bed. I stroke the hair out of her face and run a finger down her soft cheek. She looks innocent lying in my big bed, her hands tucked under the pillow—but the night we spent together was anything but innocent. Sex with her—no, making love with her—changed my entire world and not because I’m going to be a daddy as a result. When I was inside her, I felt like I could’ve changed the whole world. Definitely could’ve taken on an army or five. I strip off my clothes and then return to petting her.

She stirs under my touch. Her eyes flutter open, and a soft smile spreads across her face. “Archer,” she breathes. There’s a sense of wonderment in her voice as if she can’t believe I’m here or that she’s here in my bed.

“Yeah, I’ve got you.” I lift the covers and slide into bed beside her.

Her sleep-filled eyes turn dark as her hands come in contact with my chest. “I’ve dreamt about you.”

“This isn’t a dream, darling. It’s real.” I guide her touch lower. “This is very real.”

Her fingers wrap around my hard shaft, testing its girth, its heavy weight. I embark on my own exploration. Her skin is smooth and silky, warm to the touch and smelling like heaven. After pushing her top up and over her head, I nuzzle her neck and lay a trail of kisses across her collarbone, down the center of her chest, over the rise of her breasts, pausing to pay special attention to her nipples which harden into tight peaks.

She tries to maintain a grip on my cock, but can’t as I travel lower, exploring the dip of her navel, the bend of her waist. Her legs swish restlessly against the sheets, scissoring to the sides.

“What are you doing, Archer?” she asks. Her hands clutch at my shoulders and then my hair.

“Loving you. We’re doing too much sitting around and talking and not enough doing.” Sex brought us together. It made us a child. It will bind us tighter than any verbal promises. Mila will see through my actions how much I adore her.

I pull her panties down to expose a carefully tended garden, a tiny parcel of flesh poking its head out for attention and slick lips begging for a special kiss. I lave her clit, nipping lightly and then sucking away the temporary hurt.

She gasps and moans, the sounds driving me on.
