“So you want to fuck? Is that it? Get this over with. Screw each other and then that’s it? Friendship over? Is that what you want?”

He glared at her. “Is that what you think is going to happen?”

This time, as he advanced toward her, he captured the back of her neck, stopping her from escaping him. She pressed her hands against his chest, but made no move to shove him away completely.

“Let me tell you something, Teri, having my dick inside you is something I’ve wanted for a long time. I’m not an idiot. I know one time with you will never be enough. Not even twice, or a third time. How about we start at fifty years? You hear me? Fifty years of me showing you how much I’m addicted to you, and then we take it from there.”

“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“I have every single idea, but are you woman enough to take me on?” he asked.

The temptation to kiss her was so strong.

“I’ll give you twenty-four hours to think about it.”

****

Twenty-four hours.

Teri mixed the batter for the fritters she was working on. They had an order for zucchini come in. There were way too many than were on the order as they’d had some kind of mix-up. The supplier gave them to her free of charge, and now she had an abundance of them and had to make them work.

So far, Skylar had made an amazing zucchini bread, muffins, and a couple of other tasty treats.

Teri had the rest. Savor fritters, pancakes, burgers, and a couple of other tricks. Some of the items they had put for customers to try for free.

“You’re deep in thought,” Skylar said, coming into the kitchen.

She had flour covering her hands and face and looked so happy. Skylar had given birth to a little baby girl several months ago, and it had been one of the highlights of Teri’s life, to finally be an aunty.

“Just thinking, you know, about stuff.”

“Anna told me,” Skylar said.

Teri spun toward her sister. “About what?”

“The job interview.”

Teri glanced around, seeing no one from the club around. “Please, don’t say anything.”

“I came to Greater Falls to be close to my sister. To be happy, and now you’re leaving.”

Teri went to her sister, cupping her face. “I’m not leaving. It’s an interview. That’s all it is.” She tried to smile to console her sister, but Skylar wasn’t in a forgiving mood.

Her sister pulled away. “The club doesn’t know.”

“Just don’t say anything.”

“I’m not going to keep it a secret.”

Teri sighed. “Look, I’ve never asked you for much in life, and I know your loyalty is to the club. Mine is too.” It’s one of the many reasons she knew it was time to move on. “Please, let me just see.”

“What are you seeing about?” Skylar asked.

Teri glanced down at her hands. “You know everything.” She licked her lips. “And as much as I consider myself a strong person, there is only so much I can take.”

“I’ll kick Cora’s ass, okay? I’ll kick anyone’s ass who tries to push you out of town. Your place is here. You know this.” Skylar growled.

“Don’t be upset,” Teri said. “This is a good thing.”

“How is this a good thing? How is you moving on again a good thing?” Skylar ran her fingers through her hair, looking close to tears.

This was what Teri had tried to avoid. She was a little pissed at Anna for spilling her secrets, but she knew why Anna had said something.

“You’ll come and tell me before you make a decision?” Skylar asked.

“Yes. I’ll talk it over with you. I promise. I won’t leave without telling you. I’ll make sure there is time and everything is handled.” She wouldn’t just leave the diner to anyone either. She loved this place. This was a home to her. One she had no choice but to give up.

Skylar waved her hands in front of her face. “I don’t mean to get so emotional.”

“It’s fine. I’m getting used to it. Pregnant ladies or new mothers seem to be a specialty around here.” Teri laughed.

“I’m going to go and use the bathroom.”

She watched her sister go. Skylar left as Anna walked into the kitchen.

“Why did you tell my sister?”

Anna held her hands up. “No, I didn’t tell her. I tried to play it down as some joke. Skylar came to the apartment this morning. I had a few baby items for her, and we’d arranged for her to take them. She saw the paper, the circled job with the time. I didn’t know what I was supposed to say or do. I freaked out. Did you want me to lie for you?”

She shook her head. “No. Of course not. You did the right thing.” She smiled at Anna. “I just wanted a little more time before she knew my plans is all.”
