I gasp as I fall, but suddenly, he’s there, scooping me into his powerful, muscled arms and effortlessly lifting me up into his chest. I nuzzle into him, panting for breath and losing myself in the scent and warmth of him.

“That was…that was…” I murmur into his skin, still not quite daring to open my eyes unless this proves to be a dream.

“Open your eyes, little princess,” he murmurs softly into my ear, as if reading my thoughts. “I promise you, you aren’t dreaming.”

And I do.

His eyes are the first thing I see, so full of heat, and power, and strength, but also full of a kindness I’ve only ever imagined.

“Now tell me, angel,” he purrs. “How was that?”

“Incredible,” I say softly, curling into him and burying my face in his neck. “That was incredible.”

“Good,” he growls. “Because I’ve only just begun to show you what I’m going to do to you.”

Jagger kisses me softly as he moves across the room. Gently, he lowers me onto the large bed, and it’s honestly the softest, comfiest thing I’ve ever sat on. He leans down, this huge mountain of a man, and kisses me again. His hands slide down my sides and find the edges of my sundress, tugging it up and only pulling away from the kiss in order to tug it over my head. My plain white bra follows, his fingers deftly slipping it from my skin and tossing it away until I’m bare and utterly naked under his fiery gaze.

“Beautiful,” he murmurs softly, his jaw tightening. “So unbelievably beautiful.”

He kisses me again as his hand reaches down and pulls at my panties, which are still tangled and twisted at my knees. He slips them off my feet before pushing me back. I giggle as I tumble back into the crazy-soft bed, melting into it and feeling my pulse roar as this dominant man lets his hungry gaze take in my naked body.

He shrugs his suit jacket off, folding it before tossing it over the back of a chair across the room. His eyes never leave mine as his fingers find the buttons of his dress-shirt and start to undo them, one at a time. My heart pounds as he slowly reveals more and more of his body — the hard-packed muscles of his chest, the mouthwatering abs, and the tantalizing v-grooves that delve into his dress pants at his hips. And then there’s the ink, and that’s what sends a heated flush through my whole body.

He’s covered in tattoos, swirls of ink that give him an even scarier, darker, and more edged appearance. But I’m not scared — not of this man, and not after what he’s just shown me.

His eyes flash as he reaches for his belt, but just before he pulls at it, there’s a loud knocking at the door.

Jagger’s face clouds in fury, to the point where I’m terrified of what might happen if the knocking comes again. Which it does.

His jaw tenses menacingly, his eyes flashing something fierce before he looks back at me, and his look softens. He leans down over me, kissing me softly and tenderly and making me melt before he suddenly yanks one of the big duvets out from under me. He kisses me once more before pulling it over and around me, surrounding me in soft, clean, whiteness.

“One second,” he growls under his breath. “Don’t move.”

He whirls and strides for the door, the muscles of his neck and shoulders tensed and bunched. Fear jabs through me, and I find myself retreating into my little cocoon of soft, white duvet, totally buried under the covers with just one eye peeking out.

Jagger yanks the bedroom door open a crack. It’s just enough for me to see a man who I might normally consider terrifying looking but who himself looks terrified as Jagger glowers down on him.

He says something I can’t hear, swallowing nervously as he does. Whatever it is though, it’s clearly not good. Jagger roars, sending the man jumping back a step. I shiver, the heat and the bliss from earlier fading as the fear of the man Jagger Kovac is slams into me. Not the man who just made me feel like I was weightless and made my body tremble in pleasure, but the fearsome, legendarily cold man at the top of a major crime organization.

I shiver under the covers, retreating further into them.

“My changes will be approved,” he roars at the tattooed man outside the bedroom door. “And I expect my captains to fucking follow through with that! Is that clear?”

The man nods quickly, what sound like apologies tumbling from his lips before Jagger cuts him off with one pointed finger.

“Do not interrupt me with your ineptitude ever again.”

He slams the door, and the room goes quiet. His shoulders heave. I swallow thickly, and I’m sure it’s so loud that he can hear it, because that’s when he slowly turns from the door and looks right at me, huddled under the covers on his bed.
