He finally tucks his flaccid dick back into his pants, and as he pulls up the zipper, he walks out of the room and gives Martin an order. “Shut the door. No one goes in until Nina comes out on her own. I’ll fucking break your neck if I find out you saw her naked.”

Martin keeps his face averted as he pulls the door shut, and all my attention focuses on Nina, where she’s lying unconscious.

The harrowing events shudder through my mind until the depraved darkness of what happened is engraved into my soul.

Christ.

My mind reels, and I struggle to keep the flashes of Nina being raped from taking over and reducing me to a helpless mess.

After long minutes, Nina finally stirs, and when her head lolls to the side and her lashes lift, I say, “He’s gone. It’s just us.”

She stares at me until her eyes regain focus and the trauma fills them.

I’d give everything I own to be able to hold her right now, but there’s no time. The words carry the promise of death as I growl, “Free me, and I’ll kill him.”

Nina struggles into a sitting position and reaches for her jeans. I turn my head away, giving her privacy while she puts on her pants.

I listen to her movements, and when it sounds like she’s coming toward me, I glance at her again, but she walks right past me, her expression blank.

When the shackles suddenly eases and my arms move, my head snaps up, and seeing that the chains are being lowered, my heart beats faster.

Once my arms are hanging at my sides, Nina grabs a wrench from the table and comes back to me. Without saying a word, she begins to loosen the bolt on the right shackle until she’s able to pull it out, then she moves to my left side.

As she works to get the bolt free, crippling emotions ripple over her face, and she sobs softly.

The moment both my wrists are free, she walks to the table and grabs a hammer, then holds it out to me without making any eye contact.

Knowing time is of the essence, I take the hammer from her.

Spotting a dirty rag, I grab it and wipe the shit off my chest. As I toss it back onto the table, our gazes meet for an intense moment before Nina runs to the door and yanks it open.

“Oh, my God! Help! He’s convulsing,” she screams at the top of her lungs, her panic very convincing.

I move quickly into position, and as Martin comes darting into the room, I swing and slam the hammer into his face. He sprawls to the side, and I move, grabbing his gun from his hip.

When the other guards file into the room, I fire three shots, each one hitting their target and dropping the fuckers like flies.

I shoot Martin to make sure he’s dead, then toss his weapon on him before taking two guns from the other fuckers, checking the magazines to make sure they're full.

When I limp out into the hallway, there’s no sign of Nina.

Chapter 9

Georgi

As I come up the stairs, someone suddenly shoots at me, and I plaster myself against the wall, returning fire.

A bullet hits my left forearm, but it’s so close to the surface that it goes right through. Pissed off, I push forward and shoot the fucker as I reach the top of the stairs.

I’m surprised when there aren’t any other men waiting to stop me, but I can hear them shouting. Some are ordering others to find me, while a couple are saying that they’re leaving.

Not wanting to miss my chance, I dig in the dead guy’s pockets until I find his phone, and seeing it needs a fingerprint to unlock the device, I take a wild guess and press his right thumb to the screen.

It opens, and as I walk down another hallway, I dial Rosie’s number, which every single capo has memorized.

My body aches something fierce, making me grind my teeth as I breathe through all the pain.

It only rings twice before her voice comes over the line. “Yes?”

“It’s Georgi. Track the number.”

“Sweet Jesus!” she shrieks in my ear. “It’s Georgi,” she shouts before lowering her voice and asking, “Are you okay?”

A man comes down the hallway, and moving faster than him, I fire two shots before he can get one off.

“No,” I answer as I continue walking. “I’m dropping the phone in case I’m intercepted. I don’t want them to catch on that I managed to call you.”

“I have your location. Jesus, you’re only twenty minutes away. The guys are coming. Hang tight.”

When I reach the body, I shove the phone into his pocket.

Focusing all my attention on my surroundings, it’s just in time as another fucker darts into the hallway. He moves so fast, I barely register him before years of training take over, and I pull the trigger.
