I’ll fuck other women, and she’ll look the other way or join in. Simple. I’ll see Raven for holidays.

She’ll show up, and I’ll look at her like I am doing right now, and we will both know that I own her…

“Come here. Let’s get you cleaned up, then I’m taking you to Bar Moruno.” I turn her and she glides sweetly into my arms. Kissing her eyes, stroking her hair, I whisper how fantastic she felt taking my cock.

She sighs and clings to me. Tightening my arm around her, I lift her up and walk us into the bathroom, ignoring how good she feels in my arms.

I’d like to say it’s because she’s fresh, new, but I’ve fucked too many women to believe that. There’s something about Raven that speaks to me, calls to me…

Bad timing.

If I were ten years younger, I might have considered everything. I kiss the top of her head, inhaling her scent. Funny how life throws things at you when you’re not looking.

But at the end of the day, I am who I am. She’ll go back to school, and I’ll stand in front of three hundred of my best friends and let them watch as I say, I Do… to her mother.

RAVEN

“Are you ready for me to take your orders?” The pretty tattooed waitress smiles at us. Looking over at Jett, I smirk and set my menu down.

“Yes, let’s go with the Minerva spicy tuna, setas con huevos, and the pan tostado. You know what? Give us a pan con tomate also. Raven loves bread, and…”

I sit back and cross my legs while Jett keeps ordering. Apparently, we are not only having the rotisserie chicken, but also the prime rib eye.

So. Fucking. Hot.

He’s wearing a black button-down shirt, sleeves rolled up, and dark jeans. No wonder he’s made millions defending people. I mean, if I was on a jury, I’d vote not guilty.

The man is not just beautiful, he’s mesmerizing. The waitress must think the same thing. Her hand is shaking as she nods nervously at him and types the order into her small computer.

“Anything else?” Her face is flushed.

“No, that’s good for right now.” He graces her with his panty-melting smile, and I almost feel bad for her since she stands there frozen, staring at him, then spins around almost plowing into another waiter.

I shake my head, unable to hold back the smile as I reach for my water.

“What’s so funny?” His tan hand takes mine as I swallow.

“Have people always responded to you this way?”

He laces his fingers with mine. “You have beautiful hands, you know?”

I blink at him. He just completely ignored my question. I’m starting to figure this voodoo of Mr. Jett Powers out. He’s a master at changing things his way.

Genius, really.

“Thank you. Can you answer my question, please?”

He raises a dark brow at me and his lips twitch. “You know, Raven, I can’t decide which part of you I like more: your sassy mouth or when you submit.”

Letting go of my hand, he picks up his gin and tonic again. My eyes dip to his neck, and I watch the way his muscles move as he swallows.

Jesus, focus, Raven.

Placing my elbows on the table, I rest my chin on my hands. “I know how you do it, Mr. Powers. I was just wondering if you have always been like this.”

A small grin appears as he glances at his drink and sets it down. “Do you?”

“I do.” I waggle my eyebrows. “You control the conversation. You make people crave your attention.” I sit back dramatically. “Which then makes everyone submit to you in some way.” I smile because I’m right and he knows it.

For example, kissing my fingers. If I don’t do what he wants, he stops and takes his attention away. It’s basic mind-fuck psychology. What I am surprised about is how much it turns me on that he’s that powerful. Maybe he’s right. I am a submissive… but I think I just get off on his control.

He leans forward. “What else?”

I squirm, becoming wet. “Well, you’re… attractive.”

My lips twitch as he full-on smiles, and I notice a tiny dimple on his right cheek. “And you know it.”

I motion with my hand at him. “Add that, with your intelligence and charisma, and it makes you deadly.”

“Deadly.” Our eyes lock.

“I like that.” Neither of us moves.

“Anything else, Ms. Stewart?”

“Yes. I’d like to see you in front of a jury. I watched a little of that Disciples’ member’s trial. Did you plan to have that witness wait to take the stand and basically perjure herself?”

He leans forward. The waitress comes over with the bread and what looks like roasted feta cheese.

“Thank you.” He smiles and waits for her to leave before he continues.

“First. You always keep them guessing,” he says, placing a piece of the roasted bread on my plate. “If they are confused, they’re weak, and that’s when I strike. After that… they trust you, and once you have trust, everyone sees it the right way.” He winks, then lounges back in his chair.
