“Oh, scary stuff,” Jez said. “I was shitting myself about meeting Mac’s family. It was okay in the end, though,” he added when Dev’s face must have registered his anxiety.

“They’re going to love you,” Ewan said to Dev. “How could they not?”

Dev turned and lost himself in Ewan’s smile. They stared at each other, and the rest of the world dropped away for a moment.

“You two are so fucking adorable it’s ridiculous.” Jez’s voice made Dev flush and turn back to the table. All the others were grinning at them.

“Stop pretending to be a cynic,” Mac said. “Being in love is awesome, and you should know.”

Dev’s heart somersaulted. Although he knew he was completely head-over-heels crazy for Ewan, he hadn’t said it in so many words yet, and nor had Ewan.

Ewan tightened his arm around Dev’s shoulders. “Yeah, it really is.” He sounded so certain, so matter-of-fact about it.

“Yeah,” Dev managed. It came out a little wobbly because of the lump in his throat. “It’s the best.”

“To falling in love.” Mac raised his bottle of beer.

“I’ll drink to that.” Josh lifted his lemonade.

“And more importantly, to staying in love.” Jez lifted Mac’s hand, kissed it dramatically, and then raised his bottle, too.

They all clinked their glasses and bottles together, smiling and laughing.

Dev glanced sideways at Ewan and grinned. He didn’t think staying in love with Ewan was going to be too much of a challenge.
