“Ripley, angel, what’s wrong?” She is doubled over, clutching her stomach. My mother moves to her side immediately and then it hits me.

“My water broke.” Holy shit. Holy fuck. It’s like my brain short circuited or something because I am literally frozen in place with no idea what to do right now. I mean what the hell good is Lamaze class if men are still useless when the time comes?

“Son.” My father touches my shoulder and I look at him like he just said something weird.

“Ahhh. I am going to kill you Cobi.” Her scream breaks my fugue state and I grab her hand.

“Remember the class baby. Just breathe. In and out. Mom and dad can you go back and get her go bag. We will see you at the hospital.” they both nod. Siddah comes over and kisses Ripley on the cheek.

“I get a sister and a niece on the same day. This is awesome.” She walks out with my parents and the judge helps me get Ripley to the car.

Once she is buckled in I run around the side and fly like a bat out of hell. The hospital is only ten minutes away, but one thing Lamaze class taught me was that ten minutes can make a big difference. “Oh my God. Those videos did not lie.” She shouts, gripping the seats.

“I’m sorry baby. I love you so much.” I am driving but also trying to keep track of how close together her contractions are.

“You shut up. You did this to me.” Fuck. I feel a fleeting moment of guilt and it is quickly replaced by excitement.

“I did baby. I did it so you couldn’t leave me and look, we’re married and meeting our baby girl, angel.” Tears fall down my face and right now I don’t care.

“I know. I know Cobi. I love you so much. I can’t wait to meet our... ahhhh.” She screams again and my heart begins to pump so damn fast. They are coming way too fast. We pull up to the hospital emergency bay and everyone comes to the car.

“My wife is in labor. Her water broke. Contractions are about three minutes apart.” They put her in a wheelchair and push her inside. I follow them back to the room and once they give us her gown and stuff, they walk out, and I help her undress and get settled in. “Angel, I don't think you are going to have time for an epidural. She seems ready to come out.” I tell her, rubbing her lower back.

“I bet she is. She is so damn big she is tired of being cramped in there,” I am slightly concerned about her being two weeks early, but the doctor told us at our last check-up that due to her size it was a possibility. But she also told us that she would be perfectly fine and healthy.

People come and go from the room for the next thirty minutes or hooking her up to IVs, checking her progress. I just keep giving her ice chips, rubbing her back and holding her hand through her contractions.

My parents came about twenty minutes ago with her go bag and a bunch of balloons and flowers. “Hey everyone. How are we doing today? I am Dr. Granger. Dr. Hart had an emergency C-section and seeing as how you are one hundred percent effaced, she wouldn't be able to make it. So, what do you say we have a baby?” I hate this. I hate that he is a stranger and I hate even more he is a fucking man but when she cries out I forget about all of it except this moment right now. “Alright Ripley, give me a push. Your baby’s head is close to the opening. Seems this little girl is anxious to meet you both.”

“Come on baby. Push.” She grabs my hand and bears down. I watch my beautiful strong wife do something I would never in a million years be able to do. Wiping her forehead, I give her another ice chip while she breathes for a second.

“Alright. Another push Mrs. Monroe.” Got that was an arrow of love to the heart hearing him call her that.

“I’m right here baby. Right here. Let’s meet our little princess.” She takes a deep breath nodding her head and pushes with all of her might. I look between her legs and see the baby’s head. “Holy shit, Rip. I can see her head. She’s coming baby. She’s coming.”

Ripley bears down once more and suddenly I hear a plop and the baby is out. Mouth wide open, I stare while the doctor clears her nose and mouth and suddenly the room is filled with the most beautiful wail I have ever heard. “Oh my gosh, Cobi. We did it. We did it.” She cries, hugging me tight.
