“Is it safe to go out of the compound?” Honey asked. Just a couple of hours ago, the Ravagers had followed them back to Inferno.
“There’s plenty of room in here to ride today. We’ll go on longer trips later.”
“Honey! That’s so much fun!” Caroline said, darting across the road to admire the bike. Wraith followed her quickly and smacked Caroline’s bottom as she leaned over to look inside the new addition. “Ouch!” Rubbing her bottom, she whirled to frown at her Daddy.
“You never checked to see if anyone was coming, Little girl,” Wraith said, glaring at her.
Caroline opened her mouth to argue and snapped it closed when he raised an eyebrow at her. The other Little girl had chosen wisely. A roar of engines made the group glance toward the paved road. Two motorcycles led Winnie’s car through the compound with another behind her.
Winnie’s mouth rounded in an inaudible O, and she slammed on her brakes, making the bike behind her quickly divert to the side. Scythe flipped up his visor as she threw open her door and scrambled out.
“That’s so neat!” she called and abandoned her car to run and join the gathering in Razor’s driveway. “Can we all take a ride?”
“That’s up to Honey. It’s her sidecar,” Razor told her.
“Can I try it first?” Honey asked, not wishing to hurt her new friends’ feelings.
“The first hundred times at least should be yours,” Caroline chimed in quickly. “And you can tell us no if you’d rather keep it for yourself.”
“What do you say, Honey. Want to go for a spin?” Razor asked.
“Please!”
“You’ll need a helmet,” Razor pointed out and opened the garage to grab a box from the shelves on the side. He unpacked it to reveal a sparkly gold helmet with black bee stickers scattered around the bottom edge.
“That’s so cute!” Honey clapped with excitement. He’d done all this for her. Her Daddy always paid attention to the smallest details about her. She glanced around the crowd as it got bigger by the moment. Everyone in the compound had come to join the fun.
“Let’s see how it fits,” Razor suggested, settling the safety device into place and adjusting the strap.
Winnie and Caroline oohed and aahed over the helmet. They cheered as Honey settled into the sidecar.
“You look like a bad biker bitch,” Caroline called and yelped again when Wraith repeated his pop to her bottom.
“No swearing, Little girl,” he corrected her before studying Honey and admitting, “The Devil Daddies MC got even cuter when Razor found you.”
Honey’s face heated with embarrassment at the compliment, not in a weird way. Wraith loved Caroline with every fiber of his heart. Honey wasn’t used to being the center of attention.
Razor lifted his injured leg over the bike and settled into position. None of the guys offered to help. Their actions came from respect for him, not a lack of willingness to make sure he was okay.
“Let’s go for a ride,” Razor suggested and slowly eased down the driveway.
Honey squealed with delight and held onto the edge. “This is so much fun!”
Razor made a loop around the compound, heading the opposite way from Winnie’s parked car. By the time Razor made it back, Scythe had cleared the way. Everyone clapped as they passed, and Honey relaxed her death grip to wave one hand. By the third lap, she fluttered her fingers over her head like she was on a roller coaster.
“Daddy! Stop! Take Winnie and Caroline for a ride,” she called over the roar of the motor.
“One loop each,” he agreed. “Then dinner.”
Razor lifted her easily out of the sidecar and stood by Honey’s side to steady her as she regained her balance after the buzz of the road underneath her and the throb of the motor. Her Daddy removed her helmet and pressed a kiss to her lips.
“Will you go riding with me again?” he asked.
“In a flash!”
Caroline won two out of three rounds of rock, paper, scissors to go next. Winnie waited patiently in her helmet as Razor buzzed Caroline around the neighborhood.
When they were all done, Scythe rolled his grill onto his driveway for everyone to toss burgers and hot dogs on it. Wraith and Hellcat set up an enormous table as the Devil Daddies contributed side dishes and desserts. The guys out on patrol, at the gate, and working at Inferno, all rotated to allow everyone to attend. Scythe took a couple of plates to Vex’s house when he didn’t come join the group.
“Is everything okay there?” Razor asked.
“She’s sleeping. He’s not leaving her side,” Scythe reported.
Honey studied their expressions when several men nearby nodded with a knowing smile. What was she missing?
“So that’s how it is?” Hellcat asked.
“How what is?” Caroline asked.
“Never mind, Little girl. Just some Devil Daddies’ business,” Wraith told her. “Who wants another s’more?”
“Me, Me, Me!” All three Little girls nodded eagerly. With a groan, Wraith pushed himself out of his chair and headed for the grill, scooting the chickens, who’d joined the party to peck for scraps on the ground, out of the way.
